B1G Expansion and more Conference Realignment

Fox??

Can ESPN afford to allienate B1G country? Do they really want to risk losing a large part of the B1G audience? ESPN can be overthrown.
By the same token can the Bigten afford to be based on the BTN? No one outside the footprint will hear about it.
Fox sports says hi.
People watch Lou, May, and the other guy to get their saturday night college football recap, and gameday in the AM. Can you even name Fox's college sports show without looking? I can't. Assume in the future there are 15 tv stations showing CFB on Saturday afternoon (we may be almost there already). No conference would want to be marginalized by the big show on ESPN that everyone keeps an eye on. TBS was showing college football at some point, if a tree falls in the forest...

There is a ton of product that the Big Ten could produce for BTN,ESPiN/ABC and Fox Sports 1/FOX

FOX already owns the B1G champ game and the BTN is a FOX channel. Adding a Saturday Night Game of the Week(plus one Matinee game) would add a ton of cash.

ESPiN/ABC would get the next few picks for 3:30et, 12et and potentially another 8et kick.

That leaves many, many games for the BTN for a transition when they can get most tier-2 games on BTN.

One conference slate could be:

FOX Sports 1 SNF game: Penn State vs Rutgers(which would probably get very good ratings in a few years).

FOX Sports 1 Matinee game: Minnesota vs Iowa(nice rivalry for Floyd)

ABC: Nebraska vs scUM

ESPiN: OSU vs Wisky

That leaves UMD vs PU,Illinois vs IU and Sparty vs Northwestern on the BTN.

That could be a very good conference slate

West - Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue

East - Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland

Would have preferred Sparty in the West to balance it out better.

There is going to have to be a protective crossover anyway. Why not scUM vs Sparty instead of PU vs IU?

Will be fun for the couple of years it exists I guess.

Well done BIG! This is the best way to split it for travel and a favorable split for Nebraska. Now we just need to replace Iowa with Wisconsin for the day after Thanksgiving game since that will be the one that decides the division.

for the folks that feel it will be the Big XII north part deux:

1. Unless something drastic happens they will be realigning again in a few years.

2. There will be a protective crossover since the Old Oaken Bucket will not be going away. My guess is that you get the wolverweenies.

Nine game conference schedule on the way. Ten game schedule seems to be off the table for now due to the desire for at least seven home games.

The IU/ Purdue game is the only protected crossover.

ESPN losing the noon start games wouldn't be that big of a deal but losing the afternoon and prime time games on ABC would be devastating for them unless they could replace it entirely with SEC games. If they had to replace them with Big 12 or ACC games, there simply aren't enough big time programs to fill that need. You would have to try to have Oklahoma, Texas or Florida State in those slots every Saturday and that isn't possible.
