Expectations of Nebraska football

I went through the first 4 pages and didn't see this thread. Let me be clear, this isn't expectations for a specific season.

And if this has been discussed too much, please delete, don't want to clutter the board.

Compete for championships whilst maintaining academic integrity and priority and also exhibiting the values of the mission statement; Integrity, trust, respect, teamwork and loyalty.

I'm waiting for a day when the first comment to a new thread isn't someone bashing the person for making a thread similar to past threads? Give it a rest people. Some discussions are going to be rehashed. Especially one like this. Expectations can change.

As far as my feelings pertaining to this topic though, my expectations are high and will always remain high for Nebraska. Why? Because we have every single possible reason to be a top program. Anything we don't have, we have the money to buy. If this years schedule was as easy as last years, I would say this is the year we take a huge step. I feel this years schedule could pose some challenges though, so while I expect the team to actually be improved, I think the results will most likely be much the same as previous years. My real hope and expectation though is that we don't have any mind numbing losses like the MSU loss last year. We may lose some, but please, not stupid,sh#t like that again. Ever.

This all sounds pretty good to me
Landlord sums it up well in a short blurb. I will add my 2 cents that that competing for championships is at both the conference level and the playoff level. I don't expect the playoffs every year or a conference title every year, but it should never seem like it is unattainable and in fact is achieved on a frequent basis.

- no blowouts

- no complete mental meltdowns

- compete for conference championship every year

- make a bcs game once every 2 or three years

Maybe you haven't heard, but Nebraska is a basketball school now.
Haha!

It's a pretty good point, though. I want to see Nebraska football embrace and energize the fanbase with the same enthusiasm that Nebrasketball has. Obviously for football to do that, it has to win more than MBB does -- different standards for programs in different places -- but it all starts with how the HC runs the program. That will always be more important than concrete W/L lines, etc.

I also think Landlord really nailed it.

i want to see some of that energy and fan involvement you see at the pinnacle at memorial. they know how to pump up fans that desperately want to be pumped up.

Play in the conference championship game 50% of the time and win the conference every four years or so. Play in (and maybe even win!) a major bowl game or two each decade.

I wish that my expectations were higher . . . but the truly disappointing thing is that these relatively low expectations aren't met.
