Where the SEC gets it right is they sprinkle the non-con games throughout the year. So they can beat a "quality" opponent early (and jump a dozen spots on that win) when we're sitting around playing Tuscaloosa or McNeese. Regardless of "who" they schedule, "how" they schedule is genius. And that has nothing to do w/ ESPN. Everyone is craving a decent matchup those first few weeks. The SEC provides them in spades.

yeah, it helps set the narrative and get attention when people are desperate to pay attention.

...if the B1G did this, we'd get another marque home game in sunny September as well - good for recruiting, good for the fans. I'd rather play McNeese in the November cold, and have our recruits showing up for Wisconsin the 2nd week of September for a prime time game.

I understand that some people want to keep presenting the same issue from multiple angles. I choose to not argue with Polo because I agree with most of what he says. However, I'm not particularly fond of the fact that he says it everywhere, all the time. But, if somebody is going to argue with him, it would be nice if it was over something substantial and not just the fact that he's NU POLO and they want a piece, any piece of him. This deal with HTO and the road/away game crap amounts to no more than if the issue had been a typo. That's what was annoying me. But, I will keep the ignore function at the ready because I get the feeling this posters only purpose is to argue with Polo. I understand it can get old seeing the same old thing day after day bUT maybe the people that need to use the ignore function are the ones that can't resist arguing for arguing's sake.

Polo's quoting was accurate enough to make the point. A valid point about the Big 10. Not exactly a new point, but I see dozens of posters on mulitple threads offering their own theories and agendas on the same topic. They may be more Nebraska/Pelini friendly, but the aren't more accurate or any less tiresome. So let's not get our panties in a bunch here, team. It's just the Internet.

When Nebraska weak OOC is brought up, what's the knee jerk response? "Well the sec does it". Which rings hollow because because usually here the line is "we don't want to be like the sec". Well we don't until it's convenient to, apparently.

Let's not win championships like them either, since apparently being like the sec is a catch-all that doesn't apply differently to different practices and methods.

I completely agree with this.

For most of the season, everyone sits around and talks about how much more difficult their schedules have been. Meanwhile, at the end of the season they sneak in playing Presbyterian and nobody says boo.

and strategically it makes sense. you get a "cupcake" to try to fix whatever and try to finish the year strong.

The year Alabama beat ND for the Championship. They went from #4 to #2 because they beat Western Carolina on the same week #1 Oregon lost to #17 Stanford and #2 Kansas State lost to Baylor.

Now imagine if K State and Baylor and Oregon and Stanford were played week one and Alabama faced W. Carolina week one and lost to TAMU in week 12 while Oregon and K State played FCS schools.

It pays to lose early and set up cupcakes toward the end.

The one thing I get sick of is just the unfounded, uneducated and un-making-sense-edness of statements like this.

At this point, nobody would be surprised to hear you say:

"If we had Miami(OH) schedule. We'd lose to Eastern Kentucky, Cincinnati, UMass, and Akron. And that Eastern Kentucky game wouldn't even be close..."

If we had Alabama's schedule, we'd totally go undefeated.
