Rutgers injuried player

Walk-on
Any up-dates on the injury to the Rutgers Lineman that happened in the final minutes of the game today.

Praying he is OK.

I saw a link on FB that he was showing movement in hospital....Hopefully he has a quick and full recovery!

Believe it was Nelson. Looks like he and a teammate hot helmets on the replay. Bad bend to his neck. Praying he is alright. Never want to see an injury like that.

Update per Coach Flood:

Nelson was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick as a precautionary measure, according to coach Kyle Flood. Flood said after the game that Nelson had full movement in his extremities, but teammates understandably were still shaken up by the incident.

Very good to know. I've been wishing my best for him all night.

He was showing movement before they loaded him into that covered cart thingie when he gave everyone a thumbs up with his right hand.

Exactly, on both accounts.

No one ever wants to see a player injured like that. That nasty bend to his neck when he collided with his team could have been a horrible injury.

Sounds like Nelson is going to be okay. Sure glad to hear it.

It seems like Rutgers is snakebit for this kind of neck injury. Remember Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers DT who got paralyzed a few years back?

That was an ugly impact. I bet his teamate he collided with was a wreck with worry.

A relief to know he will be okay. It looked pretty bad on the replay. My prayers go out for Nelson.

True Nebraska fans on display here. Eric, pretty sure was announcing the game. He has a gig on XM/Siris radio with Chris Childers or Braden Gall. He is a great kid/young man. I am sure he was moved during this.

Thank you all for your compassion for the young man. This is only a game, and these kids, for every team, put it on the line for our enjoyment. Giving respect to your opponent only makes you a better team.

Prayers for the young man.

UPDATE: Rutgers issued the following press release on Sunday afternoon: "Derrick was released from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on Saturday night and walked out of the hospital under his own power."

-------------------------------

Rutgers' disappointing 31-14 loss to Nebraska on Saturday took a backseat to the concern for center Derrick Nelson, who was involved in a scary collision late in the game.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said after the game that Nelson had full movement in his extremities and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick as a precaution. On Sunday, Nelson said he is "doing well" via his unverified Twitter account.
