Husker spring injury rundown

These players won't participate in spring drills, which begin Wednesday:

-- Zac Lee, juco transfer QB, knee.

"He should be running or beginning to run as we start spring ball, but he will not be in uniform," coach Bill Callahan said.

"Hopefully, by the end of spring (practice), he'll be dropping back and throwing. He's throwing on one knee now. He'll be ready for summer work."

-- Kenny Wilson, senior I-back, staph infection in knee.

"(Team physicians) are pretty optimistic he'll be ready for the fall," Callahan said, noting Wilson has lost 20-25 pounds. "He's going to need plenty of time to recover. He will. He's young enough to bounce back."

Callahan added, "I've never been around one of these types of injuries in my career."

-- Matt Senske, senior fullback, back injury. Senske, a walk-on, tends to fly under the radar, but Callahan stresses the Bellevue native's importance.

"The downside is, there's really nobody else with experience who will be in position to come in and play fullback," the coach said. "Matt would've plugged in real nicely in terms of continuity."

-- Mike McNeill, redshirt freshman TE, shoulder. The coaches have spoke very highly of this kid's potential. They could really use his speed at this position, which features a top three of (no certain order) Josh Mueller, Hunter Teafatiller and Sean Hill.

Also: Jacob Hickman, sophomore guard/tackle, knee; Mike Huff, junior guard, Achilles injury; Corey Young, sophomore cornerback, shoulder; Barry Turner, junior DE, shoulder; Craig Roark, sophomore DL, shoulder.

Looks like a weekly academic ineligble list from the "U"

Good grief! Was he in the hospital for something else and caught this? Apparently it isn't that unusual to get a staph infection during a hospital stay. Staph really sucks.

Isnt he still on crutches or at least cant work out? If its true that he has lost 50-60 lbs its not like he is just going to be able to put on even 30 or 40 lbs just like that. Good Lord it would take a long time to put on that amount of good weight. I dont think he has a redshirt year left, so the soonest I see him coming back is probably around October.

I found an old post when he came in that said he had 3 years to play 2 so he can redshirt.

He only lost about 20-25 pounds, according to Callahan.

Well that is good news, if he can bounce back, redshirt this year and get back to his old physical form he will have a lot of time to mentally get the offense down. Therefore we will have Lucky, Glenn, and Wilson in 08, that is if none of them go pro, which I just hope that Lucky doesnt out of all of them.

i thought i read previously that he had one more surgery left before he could play again?

I see him a couple times every week and you can tell he has lost some weight. He rides around on a little rascal motorized thing. I thought I heard he had one more operation too.

Losing 20-25 lbs when you are 220 lb to begin with and 5% body fat is a ton of weight. I hope he can find his way though this and get back on track.
