Husker spring injury rundown
These players won't participate in spring drills, which begin Wednesday:
-- Zac Lee, juco transfer QB, knee.
"He should be running or beginning to run as we start spring ball, but he will not be in uniform," coach Bill Callahan said.
"Hopefully, by the end of spring (practice), he'll be dropping back and throwing. He's throwing on one knee now. He'll be ready for summer work."
-- Kenny Wilson, senior I-back, staph infection in knee.
"(Team physicians) are pretty optimistic he'll be ready for the fall," Callahan said, noting Wilson has lost 20-25 pounds. "He's going to need plenty of time to recover. He will. He's young enough to bounce back."
Callahan added, "I've never been around one of these types of injuries in my career."
-- Matt Senske, senior fullback, back injury. Senske, a walk-on, tends to fly under the radar, but Callahan stresses the Bellevue native's importance.
"The downside is, there's really nobody else with experience who will be in position to come in and play fullback," the coach said. "Matt would've plugged in real nicely in terms of continuity."
-- Mike McNeill, redshirt freshman TE, shoulder. The coaches have spoke very highly of this kid's potential. They could really use his speed at this position, which features a top three of (no certain order) Josh Mueller, Hunter Teafatiller and Sean Hill.
Also: Jacob Hickman, sophomore guard/tackle, knee; Mike Huff, junior guard, Achilles injury; Corey Young, sophomore cornerback, shoulder; Barry Turner, junior DE, shoulder; Craig Roark, sophomore DL, shoulder.
