NO ONE IS GETTING FIRED - But Octavien should be cut!

I've never been a violent person (except twice in self defense), but this post/thread just made me realize I probably can't watch another game in person or in a bar.

If somebody next to me started booing my team, I'd probably have to put them down.
It almost happened saturday. Some fat loud mouth 2 rows behind me just about got thrown down the steps by several of us.
MOB MENTALITY... nice. Did you have some tar and feathers with ya?

We pay big bucks to keep a record alive! A very real and important record that the FANS made possible, no player has any effect on that... and that kid has the balls to tell us to stay home!?! Take his blackshirt and 3rd string his a$$! that will send a strong message to the rest of the team about what it means to be a blackshirt.

:bonez
I can only speak for myself but my motivation in going to a game has absolutely nothing to do with keeping a sell out record alive.

As far as what he said, I'll elect to give a kid a break. Like others have said, at least he has some emotion about what he's doing. That appears to be sorely lacking in this year's edition of the Huskers.
His emotion is wrongly placed... if he had that kind of fire AFTER the game, that says he wasnt giving 150% on the field...

The sellout record is the ONLY thing the tradition has left... everything else has changed. So you are really saying, screw our tradition?! Thats not a true fan comment.

Since BC's been here, there has been a lot of discussions on why his teams lack motivation. This is what led Zac Taylor to make his statement about playing in the Big 12 and motivation. We're in year 4, and there is still a lack of motivation. The age old argument has been some see motivation as being a coaching thing while the other side sees lack of motivation a player thing.

If it's a player thing, are we only recruiting unmotivated players? I believe that it's the coaches responsibility to have the team fired up and motivated to play the game. If I'm wrong and it's all on the players, then is this team filled with a bunch of lazy unmotivated people?

I'm pretty sure that it would have taken a highly skilled doctor to find a pulse last Saturday on the defense. It would have been just as difficult the previous Saturday against USC, and the previous Saturday to that against Wake. 2 of the 3 games were at home. How could these players be this unmotivated while playing in front of the home crowd? USC and Ball State each tied records for the most points put up on a Husker team in one quarter (21). In each of the games, the record was tied in the 3rd quarter. WTH are the coaches saying or not saying at halftime that makes the D lay down and die in the third quarter?
It is the coaching. I played for 2 different coaches in college and I can guarantee a difference in the energy level with each coach and the effect on us players.

A player doesn't realize that he has more to give because he has never been pushed to that emotional and physical level. Everyone needs to be pushed beyond their limits to find out what their limits are. You can't expect 18-21 yr olds to know how emotional to get b.c they are playing in the Big 12. The players only know the limits they have reached before and it's the coaches job to have them pushed beyond those limits. The kids can only bring so much out of themselves. In the players minds they are at their emotional maximum.

Coaching is to blame....period. Doubt it? Ask a coach.

Band wagon fans... blah blah blah! Unless you are at the stadium cheering until your lose your voice, then your opinions dont matter. I am there, always, in full force with eyes bugging out of my skull from yelling, cheering and unfaltering support! But when some punk says we should stay home if we dont like it, maybe he shouldnt be a starter because that is punk talk... much of like what is being replied on this thread.

Steve Oct is our best D player? Holy Sh*t! We are in BIG F'IN TROUBLE!! IF he is the best we have and is so damn good, how did they allow 1000+ yards and 90 points in TWO GAMES!! Maybe Steve should use that interview emotion on the field or the locker room where it matters, in fact, those are the only places that stuff matters! How do you get someones attention if they think they are better than they are... its called a REALITY CHECK! So heres your reality check, the D sucks bad this year and should be thanking fans for coming out, every week in record numbers to support a squad that is playing half azz. Coaches dont wear helmets. They can only lead, its up to the player to use their ability and talent to make plays... and that just isnt happening regularly enough. And speaking of emotion, why is it there are 1 or 2 D players that try to get the crowd into the game nowadays... quit defending these kids, if they cant take the heat, then they dont belong in the game. Not to mention, they do get paid to play, its called a scholarship! Have you priced hourly rates at UNL lately? I assure you, the kids are WELL compensated!

What kind of weed are you guys smokin?!
Poor poor baby.

Octavien went to Coach Callahan after he made the comments and said he made a mistake. Coach Callahan told him everyone makes them in the heat of the moment. Octavien was just trying to stick up for his teammates and his coaches.

But here's some music for you to continue your pity party rant :violin

Blah blah blah. He was emotional after a terrible performance and said something he shouldn't have. He's just a kid. Kick him off the team? Talk about overreaction. Why not beat the sh#t out of the towel boys when they bump into a player?

Kickoff the one player who shows fire and intensity, which is what this defense is lacking??!! Good support there buddy. Guess we should kick Keller off too for yelling and trying to motivate teamates also.

You serious? A player is supposed to play, and at the end of the game, feel no emotion? Not be upset? Well, dang.

Because he booed? I am sure he had to be more insulting than that. I don't believe in booing college kids but I DO believe everyone has the right to say/boo whatever they want as long as it isn't insulting to those around them with derogatory language. If you can't handle hearing someone boo then that is a testament to your character as well.

I say we have Octavien tell Coz that if we boo he isn't allowed to show up to the games anymore...LOL

He had energy to spout off, so there was SOMETHING left that he didnt leave on the field. Fans are emotional too, which is why they booed. Everyone is emotional right now because the team matters to the fans, the state, the university, etc., we want the best out of everyone. The fans give their best by spending millions every year, coming out in record numbers and rockin the house... everything else is up to the players, and if they have energy to spout bollocks AFTER a game, then they didnt give it every ounce of their being and deserve whatever consequences handed to them, even if it is being booed for allowing 600+ yards!

Keller does it DURING the game... Oct waits until the game is OVER... you figure it out!!

Didnt the coach say it was inappropriate? Enough said... nice tune! Must be the fight song for Ball State?!

I agree but if anyone says something they regret and it isn't inflammatory and done in the heat of the moment then they should be given another chance after a sincere apology. Octavien we can give another chance....M. Vick can go to hell.

See the difference?

Yeah he did, but he also didn't kick him off the team like you suggested (or relegate him to 3rd string, I would imagine). Thankfully you're not the one who makes those decisions.
