So unless you attend every game you are not a fan? What about the people on the western side of the state who just can't drive to Lincoln every week or the people who simply can't afford tickets, are you saying they aren't fans?Band wagon fans... blah blah blah! Unless you are at the stadium cheering until your lose your voice, then your opinions dont matter. I am there, always, in full force with eyes bugging out of my skull from yelling, cheering and unfaltering support! But when some punk says we should stay home if we dont like it, maybe he shouldnt be a starter because that is punk talk... much of like what is being replied on this thread.
Steve Oct is our best D player? Holy Sh*t! We are in BIG F'IN TROUBLE!! IF he is the best we have and is so damn good, how did they allow 1000+ yards and 90 points in TWO GAMES!! Maybe Steve should use that interview emotion on the field or the locker room where it matters, in fact, those are the only places that stuff matters! How do you get someones attention if they think they are better than they are... its called a REALITY CHECK! So heres your reality check, the D sucks bad this year and should be thanking fans for coming out, every week in record numbers to support a squad that is playing half azz. Coaches dont wear helmets. They can only lead, its up to the player to use their ability and talent to make plays... and that just isnt happening regularly enough. And speaking of emotion, why is it there are 1 or 2 D players that try to get the crowd into the game nowadays... quit defending these kids, if they cant take the heat, then they dont belong in the game. Not to mention, they do get paid to play, its called a scholarship! Have you priced hourly rates at UNL lately? I assure you, the kids are WELL compensated!
What kind of weed are you guys smokin?!
I sincerely appreciate that... Look, the only thing I am doing with this thread is getting the attention of the fans to prove a point. The point is, the coaches need to do something to get the attention of the players... even if it means threatening the boys with their starting jobs. I am not saying I am right, this is merely MY opinion. Having been to every single game since 1998, I think I have earned the right to speak loudly about the team and the direction it is taking. I dont think I am better than anybody, and at times I am sure I am off target... but when people dogpile you for saying what needs to be said, stand back because the fists will fly. :boxJust to be clear, in general you are correct. However, you still must abide by the rules laid forth by the guy who pays for this site. You don't just have a free pass to go ape.Ask, I am not ashamed of my opinions nor about how I express them. Last time I heard, this was America and we could speak freely... if you dont like it, change channels.
I am not saying that you have, but I just wanted to put that out there.
Never said you arent a fan unless you go to a game... I merely made a statement about the booing and the fans right to do so, especially those who PAID for the right. Additionally, I was making a point that someone needs to get the attention of the players, even if it means threatening them with their starting jobs. It worked here, I bet it would work in the locker room too.So unless you attend every game you are not a fan? I would agree that Coz is NO pelini, but we have to work with what we got... Someone should get Coz fired up McBride style... something needs to rock the D boat!!its like a pyramid. the peak is the top thats the coach. and it works downhill from there.
If the D coordinator is fiery and full of emotion and has a killem all mentality then it will transcend to the players.
If the D coordinator has a laid back read and react type mentality then it will transcend to the players.
I have a good friend that was a LB in the mid 90's. I love his stories of McBride. Spitting and screaming and cursing and ranting and raving and telling his team noone comes in our house and embarrasses Mr. Osborne and when they give the ball to so and so rip his fuccccking head off. Look the guy across from you in the eye and then tear his nuts off. My buddy told me Mcbride would get so worked up he couldnt talk. My buddy played special teams, really never saw the field that much but today, still he would lay down and die for mcbride his words not mine. in practice mcbride would almost try to encourage fights against the offense, he wanted mean a$$ players and he motivated and instilled a mean aggressive attitude .
It starts at the top and the top of our pyramid is a dull point. a coach with no fire, no guts, no motivation.
as mcbride got better players he put them in positions to make plays
coz does the opposite, although octo was hurt most of last year he entered the yr second string because he wasnt in the right spot all the time. give me a playmaker all day long and then put him in spots to make plays. dont take playmakers switch them to offense and leave them 6th string just cuz you have disciplined yet soft players .
enough im starting to get too worked up.
coz is a puss, he coaches like a puss therefor his players for the most part play like pussies
Well, there you go... you have to respect each other and the program, to a point. We are at the point where something DRASTIC needs to happen if we have a hope in hell of winning the north. While I respect your stance to just sit and stew, I will be more vocal and let the players know that they are failing us! Its all about choices. No, it wasn't just because he booed. He would not shut up all game and had absolutely nothing polite, positive to say. Not only was he negative, he was completely off base, out of line and uninformed. There was a lady that sat next to us that drove 9 hours with her daughter to go to this game that had a miserable experience because of this person. Towards the end of the game he was hearing it from pretty much everyone. I just don't understand why people bother to spend time and money on something that they can't stand and are so negative about. I didn't boo and I don't believe in it.Because he booed? I am sure he had to be more insulting than that. I don't believe in booing college kids but I DO believe everyone has the right to say/boo whatever they want as long as it isn't insulting to those around them with derogatory language. If you can't handle hearing someone boo then that is a testament to your character as well.It almost happened saturday. Some fat loud mouth 2 rows behind me just about got thrown down the steps by several of us.I've never been a violent person (except twice in self defense), but this post/thread just made me realize I probably can't watch another game in person or in a bar.
If somebody next to me started booing my team, I'd probably have to put them down.
So we should say, make as many mistakes as you want... just wipe your a$$ with the tradition? NO F'ing way! Play like a champion, every game or just stay in the locker room folding towels. How do you think benching or dismissing one of the few defensive players who is doing alright (or at least better than most others) for an inappropriate comment after a disappointing game will send any message to the players other than, "You will be overly punished for even the smallest mistake! Now get the **** out of here!" How is that going to help the team?

The kid went to Callahan and said he made a mistake, and now he has apologized. All your suggestion of benching (or even worse...dismissing...how stupid) for a comment, which the player took steps to correct on his own, would do is hurt the team further. So we should say, make as many mistakes as you want... just wipe your a$$ with the tradition? Isn't that the same year they outlawed throwing unruly fans over the back of the stadium? <_<
Like giving up a 1000 yards and 100 points in 2 games left the program unscathed!? How else can a coach motivate a player? Read the comments about the McBride era and tell me how cuddly and soft we should be with the players who have the balls to say fans should stay home who want to boo... heres a thought, there was a reason the fans booed, its called piss poor DEFENSE! Improve the play, and watch the fans support you. In fact, the fans already do that... you wouldnt tell me to shut up when I cheer for a good play, so why tell me to shut up for boping bad play... it goes hand in hand!!The kid went to Callahan and said he made a mistake, and now he has apologized.
