I still have a PS2... :hmmph
I too have heard about overheating issues with the PS3. But the simple solution to both is to set it up in a WELL VENTALATED spot, where it can have plenty of air. I don't know about the 360, but on PS3 they make a cooling fan attachment that goes on the side of the PS3. Makes it look kind of bulky but I heard it works pretty good. I don't have one so I can't solidify that statement.yeah, it's mostly a complaint coming from the gamers who like the sports genre...particularly Madden '08 which runs at 60fps for the 360 and 30fps for the PS3. Of course on a standard def TV are you going to be able to tell the difference? Probably not. And you probably won't be able to even on an HDTV unless you place the 360 and PS3 side by side for a comparison.I heard a complaint from one of the guys at work about the frame rate??? 360 just gained 10 to 15%. <_<
I will say, however, that there is a rather big concern about the 360 and it's power supply/fan issues. I don't know how later versions are running right now, but mine and several others get hot...fast. Not only that but the drives are incredibly loud. My computer here and at work run quieter. I don't know how in the world that slipped past the guys at Microsoft. Apparently MS just offered an extension of warranty because of so many problems with the units over heating or something?
The graphics argument is BS. Anything on both platforms is about a dead heat. Sure gears looks great, but lets see what comes out 18months after the PS3 launch.I heard a complaint from one of the guys at work about the frame rate??? 360 just gained 10 to 15%. <_<yeah, I have yet to see a game on PS3 that has made me want to buy it. I'm a first person shooter fan though...and I feel like role playing and sports games are the big draws of PS3.
PS3 definitely hasn't been able to keep up with the 360 though...particularly in graphics, I think. I also think what they set the frame rate of the PS3 at was causing some concerns for hard core gamers.
Thanks for the info. I went to Best Buy today and looked at the 360 and the PS3. Man the PS3 is so much more money. The graphics argument is BS. Anything on both platforms is about a dead heat. The games argument for the 360 is 3 games. Gears of War, Bioshock and Halo 3. And with the rumor mill running of Bioshock coming to PS3 next year, it gets thiner. Over the next year, the game argument should swing tot he PS3, Sony owns better IPs. The Next gen games based there just have not hit yet.
For the frame rate issues, that is really just EA. EA is as lazy as they come, and would rather put out a bad product on one system than put a little more time into development. And I will stay as far away from EA as I can, but that is another thread.

it may be only three...but that's some pretty serious games. All three probably rank as the top 3 games out right now (I haven't played Bioshock, but it looks cool). PS3 is just behind. They kept delaying their release of the hardware, they're more expensive and now I have yet to see any games that really peak my interest. And until MGS comes out, I'm not sure I there will be any that I can't get on the 360. Heck, I'd even prefer to get a Wii now. Everyone loves those things. The games argument for the 360 is 3 games. See I'm really used to the PS3 and my only problems is I really like 1st person shooter games and does 360 have alot of those???
The wireless internet thing for PS3 is nice as I have wireless throughout my house and I would love to play some people on-line seeing as I have no life and no friends!
lol, this has gotten us into a console war.
graphics arguments aside....yes the 360 is the cheaper bet (even if you pay the $449 for the larger hard drive...you won't need to if you're not an avid gamer really. I have yet to max my 20GB out. Yes, it's got a bunch of extras that you'll have to pay for. I personally have no need for wireless connection and won't buy an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player until the format war has been fought.
Online content is a big thing with the Xbox. I don't know how PS3 works with it all, but downloading demo games is pretty damn nice on the 360. Also being able to download movies and TV shows. And if I wasn't a cheapskate I'd get the Xbox live so I could play multiplayer.
The 360 has a bunch more than just two first person shooter games. Especially if you go back and get the original Xbox games...there's a crap load. Black still looks next-gen on the 360 and I love putting that in from time to time and cranking up the surround sound. Halo 3 and Gears of War are just the two biggest ones everyone is talking about. And probably will be talking about for the next year or so. Thos are pretty big games if you are a shooter fan (although technically Gears isn't a first person shooter). The Halo trilogy actually has really revolutionized the way first person shooters are made. Online play has become HUGE since Halo 2 (and actually you can play free if you get the right software). Not to mention this new Forge idea they've come up with where you can change the multiplayer map around as you play...basically letting you decide how the map looks, where guns are, etc.
PS3 and the 360 both have their plus sides. Also for me, I really can't stand the PS3 controller. Especially since I like FPS games. The PS3's trigger never felt like a real trigger. They just felt like regular buttons and didn't have that curl around your finger to it. Imagine, BRI if your personal guns (I'm assuming you have them since you're a cop, lol) had triggers that were just a straight line up and down....it would really feel weird shooting them wouldn't it? I don't know, maybe it's just me. I say go find some buddies who have the consoles and give them a run through. Also look at the games both offer...and look at their trailers/gameplay online to see which seems more appealing. 'Cause it's the games that really matter.
