It’s because he’s from Nebraska. Some people just refuse to believe we could have a good QB from our state.

That's not all you're saying, though. You said the ideal scenario is that he never starts. In essence you've revealed that you have an active wish for a reality in which he doesn't succeed.

That's not the ideal scenario; it's one hopeful scenario amongst many, another would be that he's the next Tom Brady and another would be that he develops against all odds to beat out the other three future 5 star quarterbacks on the team and breaks records.

You're not wrong.  I would much rather have 5 star Raiola kill it here, and be followed by another 5 star who kills it.   You got me!

Easton Stick was an FCS All-American, conference player of the year, and is making $2.6 mil this year in the NFL. So there's one at least! All-Conference definitely means more at the FBS level, but I think being an All-American and conference PotY at NDSU is similarly impressive. But to your point it is not common. 

That is a very solid example, I like it. 

Nate Enderle wasn't all-conference (its tough when Colin Kaepernick and Kellen Moore are in your conference), but threw for 6k yards and 45TDs his last 2 years at Idaho.  And was a 5th round NFL draft pick.

Also there was that guy from Millard North that won a Heisman.

Fair enough, but we all know he was a running back playing QB   I like that one too though!  The game has changed a lot in the last 20 years.

From what I've heard about Gramstad, he can sling it just fine, it's more experience in the system and experience at this level that he lacks. If he'd been here last year, he'd probably be more in contention for the #2 spot.

So Haarberg is in the #2 spot? If not… it’s a weird argument.

Raiola will struggle at times. He’s a freakin freshman playing against well disciplined B1G defenses that have  guys that are 4yrs older than him. 
he will be good at times, his talent alone is better than HH or DK. 

So give him the keys and watch some awesome moments and some bad moments too. 
what would nice is that we can dominate the line of scrimmage whilst he gets his feet wet the first few games and not every pressure is on him to win the games. 

once the games happen that he needs to perform in, he will be ready for cuz we did what we should do the first 6-7 games

He needs to get stronger! Arm strength needs to improvement!  Kaelin reads def. well & has a good football IQ.

TBH that right there illustrates perhaps the biggest problem for Nebraska football in recent memory. There are a lot of games Nebraska could've won in the last decade with just marginally better line play.

Because I agree... it would be nice heading into most games knowing the o-line is going to be an asset and not a liability.

Agreed and I feel that we are still a left tackle away from sleeping comfortably at night. I hope Dylan throws a nice quick slant.

I think the OL will be good this season - not great but good.

Thank the husker high heavens that the season starts in 9 days because this board needs some actual games to chat about instead of filling the abyss of a 9 month offseason with pointless debates back and forth.  

I like how some posters on here discredit Kaelin without seeing the kid throw a pass, ever.  I also like how posters on here like to act like we've never had to go to a backup qb when in reality, this progrum hasnt gone thru a season unscathed at QB since early Tommy Armstrong days and Zac lee before him.  

TL/DR: Raiola is special, not surprised he won the job.  We're going to need Kaelin sooner than we realize. HH a nice 3rd option but I never want to see him take a snap for us again unless its a clear running design play.  GBR, season is so close, thank god

I don’t think you’re wrong. 

But having better passing will make the run blocking easier, and running for 5 yards instead of 3 will make the pass blocking easier because targets should get open more easily, so they won’t have to protect as long. 

The OL is extremely important but a good QB can also make them look better. That said Martinez was obviously a good QB seeing as he did very well when he left our OL.
