What did we learn Rutgers edition

you summarized my state of mind more eloquently than i did. pumped we're 5-1 but it feels like our offense is regressing, tremendously.  Sloppiness and lack of execution still runs deep in this progrum.  There are too many talented skill players available to leverage with a qb like raiola for us to be struggling this much.  It goes well beyond DR foot mechanics:

1. we continue to call these plays for fidone that are behind or at the LOS and having him outrun guys to the flat- y is he not featured in more posts, outs, delayed routes- he's a monster of a human, yet we are calling plays that should be ran for the likes of barney.

2. We've abandoned the short to medium passing game.  We are over indexing on either horizontal quick hits or deep route combos that take time to develop.  We have size and speed talent- where are the slants, quick ins, west coast type throws that attack 8-15 yards downfield.

3.  The tone was set in the first series with satt calling a read option run play on 3rd and 11 that was stuffed... we're at home, stadium is buzzing and that play call just let the air out unnecessarily from the get go.

4.  I have no idea what the stats say but I'd venture a guess our offense is ranked 115+ in the nation in 2nd half stats.  Whatever we are doing at half needs to be seriously reevaluated.
Love your numbered points.  Fidone is a nightmare matchup for a DB or LB on a quick out or slant.  His strength is not a swing pass behind the LOS where he has to try and turn to get up field.

We don't do low risk high percentage "WCO" passes that's allow our 6'4 receivers and 6'6 TE have an advantage.  Banks and Neyor are not going to run past guys.  I always go back to this.  "Call plays for the players you have and not the ones you wish you had".

Run on 3rd and 11....  Idiot.

In the 2nd half we have done poorly in the 2nd half except against 1-3 Purdue. It was suggested our lack of performance was to protect the lead and the teams psyche.  Just like so many years of poor early game performances we were "saving against better teams".  Saving "those plays" for conference play. Those excuses just like 2nd half issues were BS.  It's who we are/were.  NU under Satt will never be a 2nd half team.  He gets out coached and can't adjust.

no guarantees we go bowling this year.  I'm guessing 8 wins max.  That's Satt's ceiling.  And I'm being generous.  We want to run with the big boys then we need to get and OC who will get us there.

I don’t think we are going to look very good in those fancy metics (like post game win expectancy) that we post.

Rahmir Johnson has some skills. Our running game can be twice as good as it's been. The D coaches dialed up some new looks to keep Illinois from happening again. A four man D line with Robinson at nose tackle and Williams at DE would be formidable. 2/3 of the people at the Railyard are young girls dressing up pretty and walking around talking to their friends.

ST needs to be fixed.  We are going to lose game(s) because of dreadful ST.

Kudos to the defense who won us the game today.

OL continues to be weak link. We don’t run the ball well because we can’t execute run blocking so Satt trusts DR’s arm over running the ball, it’s that simple.

We have several tough opponents coming up.

From a quick glance, we only had 4 plays over 5 yards in the 2nd half.  And only 1 over 5 yards in the 4Q (the fake punt that Lloyd should have scored on).

3Q 11:49 Dowdell 12 yard rush

3Q 10:01 Lloyd 14 yard reception

3Q 1:42 EJ 9 yard rush

4Q 14:47 Lloyd 30 yard reception (fake punt)

I learned that Rhule's staff has 2 weeks to get alot of things corrected. This bye is coming at an advantageous time. We're a little beat up and this rest will be beneficial.

I think what is most encouraging is that we found a way to win despite adversity . That felt like a game we would have found a way to lose in the past.

We're 5-1. It's ok, I know you've been hurt, but you can celebrate that.

Let's go beat Indiana.

Minus Buschini’s pass, we only gained 25 yards of offense. Learned that you can win a game with having just 55 yards of offense in a half. Did not think that was possible. Oh and we pay our special teams coach $500k (thanks kcbuc).
