What Did We Learn - Ohio State Edition

I get the perception he missed some wide open throws today, but reality is he's throwing us or nobody balls against sticky coverage that looks like a wide open miss because of what happens after the process of the pass begins.  He's a little gun shy, has some football work issues, and needs to lace more balls in, but most of what ails this passing attack isn't on DR.

On another note: Is Carter Nelson redshirting?  I have no idea how many games he's participated in, but he & Ramir seem like the kind of players you'd want running option routes vs what OSU was doing today.
The pick play was a missed touchdown throw to a wide open reciever. Raiola is awesome but let's be real here.

I still haven't seen a turn the corner game.  When is the last one score game we won where we didn't blow a bigger lead?  Where is our game winning drive on offense late that other teams do more regularly?  Hopefully, none of those teams will be ranked since we still haven't beaten one of those.  We will be favored to lose the 3 of those.  We still only scored 1 TD this game.  Luckily, we actually made all 3 FGs which is a rarity.  7-5 is the ceiling.  To go from 5-1 to 5-7 would be disastrous and even 6-6 with a bowl wouldn't feel like much of an improvement with a veteran D and a better QB than last year.  We blew the last 4 games last year when we should have easily been at least 6-6.  I'm tired of moral victories of one score losses.  We had plenty of those under Frost and last year.  I want to see results.
Im at that point with seeing results bc Nebraska coaches say all the right things to sell hope to the fans but I rather the sell out streak stop (yes I would hate it) but I think it has to get to that point in order to get an established coaches and not having coaches that are first time position coaches trying to figure it out as they go.

Fans keep complaining, because we lost to a top 5 on the road.  Our def. Played great other than 3 lapses in the secondary.    Our offense was OK with freshman qb.  If anyone said that we would win at Ohio st at the beginning of the year, you are a liar.

Its not just you and you bring up valid points.  There are many systemic issues that have been constant issues with this program.  Its unfair to boil it down to one or 2 things, but at least to me, our decline has coincided with our decline in play on the lines.  Football is by and large won at the LOS.  How long has it been since we've had multiple starters on the OL go to the nfl?  im probably forgetting a few but outside of jurgens and jaimes, who have we placed in the NFL in the last 10 years?

For the DL, we haven't had a guy since Randy Gregory who can terrorize the opponent.  That was 10 f'n years ago.

We've been a s#!t team running the ball for 10 years now outside of one stellar season from Oz who was a bo guy.  Quality line play is obviously a boost for the running game but it makes everything else that much easier to run when the defnese knows youre runing and you can still run with sucess.  Im still not convinced donovan raiola is worth his weight OL coaching wise but if he's the cost of having dylan at qb then i can live with it.  Objectively speaking, however, his 3 years have been rather lack luster.

We've been a s#!t defensive team in critical situations from late bo, thru riley, all thru frost and moments here and there into the rhule era... Our defense is vastly improved, but imagine what it would look like if we could get consistent pressure on the qb without bringing extra guys.  Imagine having a guy who can completely shut down a side to the point where the opposing OC needs to scheme differently for us.

We don't scare any one in either of these phases.  Yes, better OC play calling would work wonders, having a pure talent like Ameer at RB would obviosuly be a major boost, but its inexcusable we have been this below average for his long on both the DL and OL.
Agree with a lot of this.  We don’t scare anyone on the LOS.  OL and DL should be our identity,  This is where the game is won.  It is astonishing how many other teams put guys in the league from the OL and DL.  Other B1G teams focus relentlessly on their OL and yet we think a highly rated lots of stars skill player is going to be a magic bullet.  You build your foundation first then your skill guys will eat and get yards and a 3 star RB becomes a stud and runs wild.

The defense seems to be building in the right direction but I want an eraser on the edge. Find this and recruit the s#!t out of it. Make it an identity.

OL we need nasty grinders to pound the the rock and I haven’t seen that for years.  Use NIL for OL and make it a team focus. We’ve shown we can grab a WR out of the portal but we need to build our lines.

It all starts upfront and we have not measured up.

For arguments sake, let's say DR read this wrong, & should have thrown a vertical route instead of a bender.  The CB is stride for stride with Neyor with outside leverage and the S is doubling him inside.  He only looked marginally open on the replay because the S steps up to pick off the pass.

I learned again that despite another INT Hartzog is a liability on defense.  Also if there isn't a fake wr screen called where the outside guy fakes a block and just takes off, Satt is dumber than everyone thinks.  DBs are licking their chops every time they see a receiver take a step back at the snap of the ball

Evens after knowing the score, watching the replay wasn’t as frustrating and actually encouraging.

Everyone, especially the announcers, was surprised that we could make a FG.

I could be happy with seeing a kick off bounce safely in the end zone instead of towards a kick returner. I thought we were cooked just like Indiana after that dreadful kickoff return gaffe. But the team was really resilient and defense played well the entire game.

Eh usc a train wreck right now.  I think we finish 3-1 with a dumb af loss against either wiscy or Iowa. USC a road game but there’s a very solid chance there will be more husker fans than usc fans in attendance

Finishing with 2 wins with this schedule would unfortunately be a major accomplishment right now
