And in case the willful moron stumbles in here (no not you, of course, the other willful moron) just because the Fourth of July hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it's not going to happen this year. If you make me spell out why this directly applies to your idiot attempt to dodge the tax break issue I will have to come up with fresh insults. Dick

Yes, I don't see a way to hide it natively like it was in the old system. It's another thing we're looking into.

In the meantime, I'll note to everyone that turning an emoji into a personal squabble will fall under Rule #1 (no flaming/trolling) and can earn you a warning or worse. As always, keep the focus on discussions. You can pick fights in the Woodshed about it all you want if that's your prerogative, but keep it out of the public forums.

To be clear, I'm not trying to pick a fight. I've been pretty honest about my preference that rep should be public. I believe private rep creates tension, as we've seen with people openly questioning who is giving them the sad face, or the laughy face. Now everyone knows, and those who use those reactions know before they submit it, that it'll be public. I think the fewer hidden things we have the better.

Also, anyone who's suspected knapplc of "laughing" at their post can now see that I've very rarely used the laughy emoji, and only when I thought a post was truly funny. It's refreshing!

Pretty much this.

I get a huge kick out of it when posters act like I’m some far left whacko. I’ve mellowed slightly on the social issues over the years but I’m still pretty conservative fiscally and with the law. I’d say right of center with a bit of libertarian thrown in. But no, I didn’t go off the far right cliff on the GOP bus and yes, I do hate Trump, and people like him, with a certain level of passion.

The problem I have with even entertaining their reasoning is I know they’re wrong and will have unsatisfactory rationale or they’ll simply lie about it when they get cornered into trying to justify it. It would be extremely nice to “understand” them but when you know they’re wrong and are in an indefensible position on so many issues, really, what’s the point of even trying? So I guess my default is, f#&% ‘em, hope they figure it out eventually and preferably in a painful way. I’m all out of s#!ts to give about anyone who still supports anything about Trump or MAGA or today’s GOP.

And I’ll add, there are 1 or 2 policy positions I can sort of agree with Trump. I do think the border needs to be secured. I don’t have a problem with rounding up and deporting illegal alien criminals. I don’t have a problem with cutting waste and fraud from our government. BUT I have a huge problem with how they are going about those things currently. It doesn’t need to be done in an uncaring, illegal, autocratic, fascist manner. Of course the things I disagree with them on is an endless list of stupid and dangerous and un-American things. About the best thing I can imagine and hope for is that AF1 crashes and burns with Trump, Vance, Johnson, and the whole cabinet on board. I wouldn’t miss any one of them for a nanosecond and this country would be much better off without them.
I'm with you, I'm considerably more conservative on many issues compared to a lot of the posters in that forum. But I vote for Democrats because it's the only option available.

I mock and deride the Trump-y posters because they deserve to be mocked and derided. It's a fundamentally idiotic political movement who's foundational principles are conspiracy theories and being a giant grift operation. Supporting it makes a person a profound moron.

It will never not be 😂 that a few people act like little children and complain about who gives plus ones and who gives laugh emojis.

It’s also interesting, in a funny way that people could get warned for using them. I mean, if it’s so worrisome, then just figure out how to take them away. To warn or worse someone for using a board approved emoji on a post seems a tad overbearing. And this is coming someone who gets the most, which as an adult a not a child doesn’t bother me.

I can't recall if we've ever warned anybody for their use of them... maybe once? My comment above was more related to picking fights about them, not explicitly using them.

We've had people complain about this kind of drive-by provocation the same way other people complain about snarky one-liners. Different people have different trip wires, so it's not really a tenable position to suggest moderating one is more overbearing than the other. It all comes down to context.

Personally I think removing reactions altogether would punish the vast majority who use them normally and appropriately so it's better to reserve the right to step in when they're clearly being weaponized (but, again, I can't think of many times we've done that... I'm more of your state of mind and I don't get fussed about them).

I have a clearer picture of TeacherCD, too.

Enhance suggests they may be looking for a way to hide the emoji identities again. But if you're serious about reducing petty squabbles, maybe honesty is the better policy.

Well, they've been public for 24 hours and you already kicked off a dust-up about reactions in P&R. And that was after it looks like you read my message asking not to do that. So, that's basically Exhibit A for why it's a sensitive issue with low trust.

I don't think Guy's comments (which started yesterday) come anywhere near the vicinity of flaming/trolling. Seems like casual but insightful observations into something people have been curious about (attacking the post, or content, rather than the poster, as the board suggestion goes), met with mischaracterizations of being infatuated, complaining and being a child.

It feels like an incredible non-issue to me, even more so with them (rightfully imo) being public, but to whatever extent there is a sensitive issue, I'd say Exhibit A is the disingenuous anonymous reactions themselves.
