Memorial Stadium Renovation

Haven't they confirmed though that the concourses will be connected? I simply can't imagine Dannen would scrap that. By all accounts it seems the scope has grown not shrunk. Really curious what inside info Josh Peterson has, because he talked about some seemingly massive changes to west stadium as well.

No. Again, that was Trev's plan. We don't know what the current plan is, because they haven't laid any of it out in any detail, we just know it won't be the same thing. So there is no confirmation of anything.

Dannen confirmed south stadium is still coming down though, I can't imagine doing that and not connecting the concourses. Everyone indicated that was a goal, It doesn't really fit Dannen's MO IMO to scrap something that is completely logical. Again, just my two cents. Be nice if they'd give us some more detail at the August BOR meeting but I guess getting it right first is the most important thing,
 
Bummed, but not surprised. The longer they wait to address this the more expensive it gets.

Too early to tell, but Dannen better not fumble this or it could end up being a big part of his legacy in a bad way. Memorial needs to be brought into the modern age as best it can and fast. It's a big price tag but it's only going to get worse, as plenty of other schools have already understood and are underway biting the bullet.

100% this. Think of the cost increase in just the last 8 months alone.
 
This comes four days after this message from the chancellor about the budget deficit. $450 million for the stadium is a tough sell and bad optics at a time like this.

"A combination of downward trends in state appropriations, net tuition and campus allocations combined with historically high inflation of health care costs as well as property and liability premiums and utilities."

Tough situation for Dannen. From what I understand the University is in the middle a budget crisis with major shortfalls. Going to the regents with a $650M proposal at this time would be a very bad look even if it is funded from outside sources. But delaying it further will only lead to increased costs.
 
We continue to plan for and develop the Memorial Stadium renovation, which includes the South, North, West and East sides in the current scope of work. We previously shared that we do not intend to bring the project forward for formal consideration by the Board of Regents at this time with the current financial challenges on campus and systemwide. Ultimately, we will bring to the Board of Regents a project that will not only ensure 102-year-old Memorial Stadium serves the next generations of Nebraskans but also will help preserve the Husker financial model that empowers aspirational competitive goals while enhancing—not draining—institutional resources.

I think they're not taking it to the Board right now because it would look bad. Pretty sure it will still go to the Board at some point.

They aren't taking it to the board because they think this is the wrong moment in time to ask for this type of project. They are working on the plans so that they have them finalized for when the appropriate time presents itself.
 
Word is that Trev spent much (all?) of the Athletic Department's $40M reserve to pay off the new facility. His thinking was to be able to tell the Board of Regents that they were debt free when he proposed the stadium renovation. But with the change in interest rates since then, we paid of a lot of low-interest debt that will have to be replaced with higher-interest debt, which adds a significant amount to the price tag.
 
So how's everyone feeling about the red endzones now that you've seen them during a game?
