What food won’t you eat because of it’s texture?

Got the idea for this topic from a Buzz Feed article.

Mine is red kidney beans. Reminds me of biting into a cockroach. Tough and dark on the outside, squishy mushy on the inside. I will eat all manner of other beans, pintos etc. but not kidney beans. I’ll pick every last one out of chili. I don’t use them in my chili.

Canned peas are another one. For some reason my mom made those gross LeSueur canned peas about once every 2-3 weeks when I was a kid and you had to clean your plate before you could leave the table. I found numerous ways of getting rid of those things without actually eating them. The lasting legacy was, I never forced my kids to eat anything they didn’t want to. May have made them try a few things but after that it was up to them.

Is dark a texture? I assume cockroaches would have a bit of a crunch? UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMETHING I DON'T.

It’s what I assume biting into a cockroach or cricket would be like. Dark was just further explaining how the kidney beans look like a cockroach.

No, I do not have prior experience….not entirely anyway. I once got a pepsi/coke from Arbys and partially into drinking it thought my straw was plugged up with a small ice chunk. When I couldn’t clear it, pulled my straw out to discover I had sucked a cricket halfway into the bottom of the straw. Glad I checked instead of continuing to suck harder on it.

Liver, definitely. My folks used to make Liver & Onions and if I could have, I would have just eaten the onions. Liver is at once pasty and gritty, and it doesn't taste good. That said, I'll eat braunschweiger all day long. Love that stuff. Jaternice, too.

I used to dislike cilantro and tomatoes, but they were both favorites of my wife, so I learned to enjoy them.

SOOOOOOOO GOOD!

And I agree, Liver is gross!

I love me some liver and onions.
Not that it’s right but I soak it in milk for about an hour before browning/frying it. Dry it off, dredge it in flour then fry it. Mix the little brown bits in with the onions. Tastes pretty good, but I understand the gritty texture and sometimes tough stringy areas could be off putting.

I have not had jaternice in many many years. Have looked and looked but haven’t found it around here. My grandma made it all the time and it was great. I’d just pick it up for her at the local Safeway. Might be a Nebraska thing… Is there a place in Lincoln that has it? Going to be there in about a week and would go out of my way to snag some.

Coming back to Lincoln? How come?

Super Saver used to make it, but I haven't looked in forever. Wahoo Meat Locker has it, but it's on the "Specialty" section of their products, so not sure it's something they regularly carry. I would expect you could get it in Wilbur, but that's even further from Lincoln than Wahoo.

The only food I can truly think of that I won't eat again solely because of texture is sea urchin. It's like eating cold salty snot. I will eat almost anything though; menudo (tripe), tartar, sushi, ceviche, suck the head of prawns, octopus, calamari, muscles, scallops, whatever, but sea urchin was nasty. Raw oysters come close, but I'll eat one if somebody orders them. I just don't get the appeal for the price.
