Dylan Raiola

Do you believe that Lateef is capable of replicating Trevor Lawrence’s true freshman season at Clemson? Because those are the stats Dylan is on pace for (plus a couple more INT’s. That is what you are wanting to replace.

Certainly not from the bench. As @Hilltop commented, he is a promising young QB with a lot of upside. I bet those words were used to describe Raiola.

I just find the snark laughable when some can't believe others felt Raiola was underwhelming in the middle of the last couple of games, thus possibly costing the team wins. Sure, the comebacks were great, but everyone was 100% sure at the time that he was just gonna snap out of it (?). Isn't hindsight wonderful!?

Can you give me the list of college QBs who haven't gone through bad stretches of games this year?

Likely not. But why does that make Raiola above reproach? If Mendoza is playing like turd for a couple of quarters and the team falls behind a couple of scores, I might want to see what his backup can do for a series, assuming he's previously proven capable.

I get it, its a QB, and you're never supposed to bench your starter, 5* or otherwise. But its okay for some to think outside the norm without being labeled stupid.

(to be fair, I wasn't one of those called out in the original post)

Again, you want to replace Dylan with a TRUE freshman QB. The hardest position in sports to play. And you want that true freshman to replicate what a very good chunk of the football historians see as one of the greatest true freshman QB season ever (Trevor Lawrence’s). Those are the stats Dylan is currently pacing for (plus a couple more INT’s).

Does Dylan have room for improvement? Absolutely. Does he have some faults? Absolutely. But he also has immense talent. Replacing a QB in game is not the same as replacing a RB or a lineman or a CB. It’s just different and coaches do not do it lightly.

Dylan ain’t being replaced absent injury and folks just need to start understanding it. Or continue to look foolish posting for it to happen.

Those people aren't stupid. They're just creating false equivalencies and reversing the burden of proof because they don't know how to properly express their feelings. The responsibility is on Lateef to prove/earn he deserves playing time and not on others to disprove his ability.

We have no meaningful POV to suggest Lateef is more capable or consistent than Raiola. Hoping the unknown is better isn't a strong strategy at QB. Raiola's had some shaky stretches, but as you admit, he's also shown real composure in clutch moments. That's not something you gamble away mid-game unless you've seen a clear reason in practice that the backup is more ready. So, it's not about Raiola being above reproach. It's more about understanding how programs manage talent and momentum. Speculation just isn't the same as preparation.

We're also in an era where you don't bench the guy you're probably paying millions of dollars unless he is just absolutely atrocious and that's not what's happening here.

One thing that I often fail to realize is that some things that make QBs look bad aren't on them a good percentage of the time. The interception where DR was trying to throw it away was on him, no question. The other two, according to Husker Online, were at least partially on the receivers. One seems to obviously on the receiver for breaking the wrong way. I'm excited to see our talented backup.... in the 4th quarter of our next blowout.

There are always going to be some miscommunications/reading things differently. And that probably played a part.

But to me, the bigger issue on the other two INTs is our complete lack of challenging the defense down the field. They are able - as they were doing on both those plays - to sit in zone and jump the short routes. That could be somewhat of a Dylan issue but it's also an OC issue.

I totally get being mad during a game, especially when you think a mistake by your QB is going to cost you the game.

But like, we were a dumpster fire for so long, and now under Rhule we're not anymore. I honestly don't care if our QB throws 2-3 INT's but then leads us to a win late in the fourth.

Like, not my first preference. But I'm just so glad we're winning again that I'm not yet at all concerned about how any given win plays out.

FWIW....when Dylan had something like 39 yards passing at the end of the 3rd quarter....you would be lying if you say had a lot of confidence in him at that instant.

yes during the game, I was getting very upset by the interceptions and felt DR needed to sit to get his head together. But then he comes out and wins the game in dramatic fashion. I'm glad he has the Tom Brady drive in him to win games when the game is on the line.
