Nebrasketball vs BYU Exhibition

They passed the smell test for me. One of our better teams in the Fred ERA...shooting over 50% on 3's is a biggie that will give any team we play some trouble. I thought we could shoot free throws a little better- but not worried yet on that. I was worried about our size but I think we are very scrappy and fast. Mast hitting 7(?) 3s was a sight to behold. About 46% attendance at PBA.

Nice win.

BYU is loaded this year. Those Texasing Mormons are not messing around when it comes to paying guys (and getting married at 21 and starting a family at 22 like nutjobs)

We also played several guys. I like our team & BYU has a couple really nice players. The freshman could have scored 40.

Eh ... Leo Curtis played 2 minutes. Jared Garcia played 7. Kendall Blue played 11. Those were the only guys outside the top eight who played. That's not going all that deep into the bench. BYU had 10 guys play at least 10 minutes. Only three guys played more than 18 (we had six).

I seen that. I was curious why Garcia & Curtis did not get more time, as Blue will probably be at 10 to 16 per game. Frager was the only player I was not impressed with, but he is young.

BYU will be very dependent on Dybantsa. When he was off the floor, Nebraska was pretty clearly the better team - especially in the first half.

Hard to judge how good either team truly is. Both experimented with lineups they probably won't use during games that count. Of course, that's the point of exhibition games.

Obviously, this game doesn't mean we are going to the sweet 16. But, how they played in this game is one hell of a lot better than if they would have went out there and got beat by 20.

I disagree that we were clearly the better team. Dybansta is definitely one of the best players in the country, as we could not stop him. Because Mast was hot from 3, he kept us in this game. Offensively, it appears we can score as we have several options. Defense will need to improve a lot.

Well ... sure. I'll take any sort of win any day. And BYU is obviously really good.

But giving up 50 points in a half - to anyone - is not good. And needing to shoot nearly 50 percent on 34 threes to hold on for a one-point win doesn't seem like an easily-repeatable performance. To say nothing of only being able to score three points in the last five minutes of a game.
