Nebraska wins The Battle for NU! What did we learn????

Your last sentence is most concerning. Iowa dominated a team that dominated us the week before. It just reinforces that Nebraska can beat more finesse teams but teams who focus on toughness in the trenches will be a struggle.
I’m wondering if what we saw from Rhule in 3 years elsewhere will take 4 in the Big Ten. We are inarguably getting better, but it takes another level of physicality in this league and the trenches were a crater after Frost.

I think what you are really saying is that Rhule to PSU wouldn’t be a bad thing- time for a new coach and staff
Well.....I do think he is a great CEO. Public persona, social media, his Podcast, McAfee show etc...Phenomenal. I personally like it. BUT to do that, you need an incredible experienced staff. Satt....Butler.....Barthel...Donnie......Thompson....Dana (hard to break Air Raid ties) are some I'd really look at.

The snapshot of Butler is just one year at PSU, but the before and after tell a picture that in that span, he had the worst of the few years before and the few years after. I think Rhule is a 3-3-5 guy and Butler is not which could be an issue. Not having the big boys up front is also an issue (year 3 and no replacements shows misses in recruiting or failure to develop) Satt and Thompson are just friends getting paid.

We need guys who TRULY understand the B1G and can coach/recruit/develop in it. Rhule from Temple and Big 12 does not. But is learning. He needs hitters on his staff. I think Dana begrudgingly is running more, but it won't be his base. OL on year 4 with Donnie and the same guys. Again hit/miss portal recruiting or development. Next years schedule is brutal.

I definitely do not want to lose Rhule. Butler might have a good head of steam heading into next year if we can keep the better defensive players from transferring out.

And Emmett Johnson's a just a junior.

No reason to think about getting rid of Rhule even if we were to lose the last four in a row.

But, the offense has started to underperform, IMO. Rhule & Holgorsen need to figure that out, and I don't think it's even that hard.

I figured after the last decade of being served humble pie we would have a bit of a taste for it but I guess not. There isn't an easy win in this conference. Imo any margin of victory in conference play is good. Every team in the country save 3 squads have pretty major issues. It's not about being perfect, its about winning the game. We are not at a point in the program where we are going to be dominating through the season.

Not heavy at all. I am a realist. I love my team but also acknowledge that we have a long ways to go. On the other hand, every time we win a game we are supposed to win, you come out as if we are the up and coming Ohio state. How about this, if we win the remaining four games of the season, I will delete my account and will never ever post in YOUR board again. I consider that a win-win situation. However, if we lose 2 of the 4, you need to start admitting that the team still has many issues on offense and defense.

I don't think people are responding to your skepticism or realism — which I'd say 98% of us share — as much as you insisting that your grave doubts are more insightful than ours.

Also, this particular post is rather childish and petulant, wouldn't you say?

Wait...that would be going 8-4. Going 8-4 puts us in a place where you're pessimistic about the season?

If we go 8-4 and have no coaching departures and no major transfers out, I'm pumped about next year.

Two more wins would mean wins against your choice of USC, UCLA, Penn State, and Iowa. I think most of us would take that.

Further progress will have to come against a tougher schedule in the coming years. We can't settle into feeling good about second tier Big10 status. But I'm okay feeling good about 8-4 right now because I prefer feeling good about stuff.

One non football related thing I’ve come to learn over the home game weeks is that NU’s turf really sucks or NU wears the wrong cleats because it’s multiple weeks of players not having the best footing and slipping while trying to start and stop.

Totally - but 8-4 probably isn’t all that likely. That’d be my thesis anyway.

So to be clear, I’ll be pumped about 8-4.

But if we go 7-5, the debate by the fan base about where that puts us/Rhule is probably going to be pretty intense.
