Husker QB - TJ Lateef

Everyone needs to settle down. Lateef is going to struggle against Iowa for sure and probably PSU. But even after that, some desperate team is going to throw money at him and he'd be silly not to take it. Nebraska can't and shouldn't pay starting QB money for the backup. I give it less than 1% chance he's on the roster next year.
Which is really too bad since the offense ran better with Lateef in his first start than it had all year under DR (starts 13-22) against power 4 competition.

I’m not trying to lay down a hot take. Hear me out.

I’m really worried that burning TJ’s redshirt is going to be the thing that actually makes him transfer. Is that neurotic? I guess neurotic is kind of my thing.

But like, we’re probably going to lose these last two games. And if Raiola doesn’t declare for the draft after next year, how does Lateef stick around for 2027 if he doesn’t have two full years after Dylan is gone?

Know what I mean?

I ask in earnest. Maybe we should just let Heinrich Himmler or Gramstad play these last two games to preserve the redshirt?

I absolutely despise the fact that the NCAA didn’t put back the undergrad transfer rule. It’s ruining college sports.

Couldn't he use his redshirt next year and retain 3 years of eligibility once DR leaves? Of course this assumes DR leaves after his junior season for the NFL.

In this day and age, why would an athlete redshirt when they can transfer and make more money immediately. Especially when Trae Taylor is on deck. If we stick with Raiola, TJ is as good as gone.
I think the amount of money will play a big factor. How these next couple games go will determine that. The only reason would be if there is something else keeping him here if more money is offered elsewhere- a girl, a relationship with a coach, etc..

I would literally puke if TJ ended up at Indiana next year.
Mendoza has another year at IU. However, keep the puke bucket nearby, just in case. The orange Home Depot kind.

These are the top places that will need to replace their SR QB

Miami - Carson Beck
Florida State - Tommy Castellanos (possible new HC)
Ole Miss - Trinidad Chambliss
Texas Tech - Behren Morton
Tennessee - Joey Aguilar
Clemson - Cade Klubnik
Georgia Tech - Haynes King
Vandy - Diego Pavia
LSU - Garrett Nussmeier (and new HC)
Baylor - Sawyer Robertson (Tied with Mendoza for most TD passes)
Missouri - Beaue Pribula
Arkansas - Taylen Green (and new HC)
Kansas - Jalon Daniels

Bold is just my own thoughts where he might receive a phone call of interest. But also consider Florida & Auburn if Lagway & Jackson Arnold leave because of new head coaches.

Personally, I think there is too much football left that needs to be played before anything can be seriously considered, with 2 very tough road games against good defenses. After Iowa, we'll talk Turkey (figuratively and literally - ha!)

FYI these places are good at QB next year (returning starters)

Ala, Georgia, Indy, tOSU, Texas, OU, Texas A&M, Oregon, SMU, Arizona State, Notre Dame, BYU, Wash, Arizona, K-State, Cincy, UCLA, Utah, Arizona, TCU, Iowa St, Duke, South Carolina

Would be shocking if he didn't transfer. He could start at a bunch of places next year and not have to wait an extra year riding the bench.
Really? I say that because you are always so honest and level headed.

I am sure Name Image and Likeness (NIL) will provide some kind of nice opportunities in Nebraska that could keep his pockets happy enough to return, because he likes it here and his teammates, the coaching staff and the support. Plus he knows where he stands at NU. Which is a very good spot.

How likely is it feeling that either Raiola or Lateef isn't on the team next year at this point?
I think they are both back. However, you never know for certain these days. Just like HS recruits committing and then de-committing later in the process. Just have to stay positive and then deal with adversity the best you can - if or when it comes.

I'm not going to sit here and proclaim that he's going to light it up against any future opponents. However, how can you then sit here and proclam that he's going to struggle?

Can we all just say it together: Put the undergrad transfer rule back in place.

It's just ridiculous to work hard recruiting a kid only to have him transfer out the very next season. It's pointless for the player involved, also.

TJ is also surely going to be thinking really hard about whether Raiola would come back for a senior year or whether he'd declare for the draft after next season. That has to weigh into his decision making process but of course, who knows whether Raiola will be attractive to NFL teams after next year or not.
