NBA 2025-26

Guy Chamberlin

Heisman Trophy Winner
I got nothing at the moment, but the last NBA thread went off the rails and needed a refreshening.

Jump in if you have any predictions or curiosities before the October 21 tip-off, which might be on Peacock which already pisses me off.

Haven't enjoyed the NBA in many years. I know many here in Nebraska that feel the same. Hopefully we can start putting more Huskers in the league to make it more entertaining for our fan base.

Just wanted to remind everyone that the NBA season started a few weeks ago.
Not interested.

The league has created an entertainment arc that has slowly lost my interest year after year since early 2000. I stuck with it as long as I could. I was watching less and less since 2013. There are highs and lows as usual, but the narrative and story line stays consistent. I didn't watch last year and never followed it at all. It feels good and I don't plan to watch any further.

I do like basketball though. The real game with real rules you follow. I will shoot hoops at the park often. But don't ask me to watch it.

Except I started following college hoops more, after 20 years of not paying attention to it other than March madness.

I've been watching the NBA since roughly 1972 and I think the game today is as good or better than ever. Lots of super talented players putting on incredible performances on deep teams with great role players. And that's last night alone.

Don't know for sure the narrative and storyline you're talking about, but I've heard the anti-NBA arguments and they tend to come with a socio-political slant. If you yearn for the NBA of the past, I'm gonna argue that nostalgia is clouding your memory. The NCAA plays the same game, just not as well.

I played some playground ball myself, and if that's your example of the real game with real rules then we played on very different courts. It's totally cool of course if you don't watch the NBA, but I'm hoping a couple folks might want to talk about these players and games.

Not nostalgic. I agree the players are better - a lot better. And I do like the new courts, the uni's, the Emirates NBA cup (tourney) and especially the tons of points being scored in games.

If I watch a replay and put it on mute, I can enjoy it. I just do not care for the production, TV announcers, the media, the drama, players referenced with cute abrv nicknames with their initials, ESPN, Fox, the podcast, and a dozen talk show hosts getting heated. When I tune all of those noises out, mute the game, I don't get NBA sport anxiety lol. And I can enjoy a game win or lose.

Although, there are more than a handful of players still playing that I wish would go away already (into retirement). Those guys are in their 18th to 22nd seasons and still getting favored treatment.

Playoffs are good but way too long.

College is great as I tune in more often as a replacement.

i agree that the game today is probably as good as its ever been…even though i do avsoluteky despise the foul baiting and ‘gather step’.

The shooting ability, speed and athleticism is better across than board than ever before. Offensive and defensive schemes are more sophisticated. I don’t like watching teams that play 5 out and work exclusively to jack up corner threes, but I can’t argue with the strategy. Overall I think the modern game is a good product.

The players are overall more athletic and probably more physically imposing. I don't think the quality of the "game" is any better, for the reasons you listed and others.

Agree on the speed and athleticism. But I don't think you want to look at shooting percentage to try to justify the claim that the shooting ability is any better than it was 30 years ago.

And I think your second and third sentences contradict each other.

Tell me why you think its contradictory

You said that offensive schemes are more sophisticated. Then you said that everyone plays five-out and just tries to jack up corner threes. That's not much of a sophisticated scheme.
1) I never said everyone plays 5 out
2) 5 out can be pretty nuanced. It’s not 5 guys standing still
