Portal QBs

Brock Purdy -- last player chosen in the draft. One of the assistant coaches liked his maturity as a four year starter on one team.

What's kind of interesting about this, Guy, is that Red Five had asked me if Iowa State's current QB that's in the portal fit the mold of someone that is pass-first but can also run when you really need him to.

And then Purdy is another guy that played for Matt Campbell who is very similar. Pass-first (in my opinion), good passing acumen - but could run a little zone read and has a decent scramble game.

This is the kind of player that I believe would give us the best foundation to build from, but I don't think that's the direction Rhule is going to go this offseason.

We have the newly created run game coordinator Position now. Maybe that’s a tell which way Rhule wants to go.

Oh for sure - it's fairly clear that his #1 criteria is going to be somebody that's going to handle quite a fun snaps running the ball. Which tends to imply that the guy is going to need to be pretty durable.

This usually sections off the pool of guys you're going to get pretty greatly in the venn diagram of QB's.

Feels like a game of musical QB chairs mixed in with a little coaching duck duck goose. I really feel like Nebraska is going to do exactly what Dana said - take the best available and coach towards the kid's strengths. We aren't in a position to name our target and expect to land them.

Just saw Davila also hitting the portal. Raising the importance of getting at least one QB in the portal this period.

Also wonder if the staff has eyes on any JUCO QBs that could sign in February for the needed depth.

Colton Joseph is probably a really good option for us with what Rhule wants to do.

2,600 yards passing, 1,000 yards rushing in the Sun Belt. Redshirt junior for 2026, I believe.

Quite a bit of potential there.
