Portal QBs

Whoever comes to NU from the portal will have to come to compete. And understand he could be the starter or backup, and live with it.

I am not sure many portal QBs want to compete and possibly get beat out for QB1.

I also think it really hurts NU's options because DR was a 5 star, high-quality QB that left. It likely sends a red flag for others. Definitely not getting any of the top picks in the portal. But could be proven wrong on that. Money talks these days. But do we really need that type of investment more than investing on the best available lineman on both sides of the ball?

I know a ton or most of you arent on the Chiles board. Ill take him. He can throw. Seen more zip on his pass's then DR's. He can def run. We won and made him look bad throwing but he did almost beat us. I know I know not saying much. But i can see that he can get out of 97% of the sacks DR took cause he wouldnt run.

If Chiles is our Qb i will be ok with it.

I also agree with this. Lets build from Interior out. Get a couple lines that can control the game. Get a Couple Qb's on board that may just be a bit above average but can make plays.

Matt Rhule said that Nebraska was going to spend or be spenders in the portal but I don't know how much Nebraska is willing to spend to try to get the best available guys to come here. Like bc Matt Rhule is a great car salesman I sometimes believe he is blowing smoke up our butts so we have faith in him and his decisions.

I mean how much we spend (overall) isn't even Rhule's decision to make...

Chiles: 61.3 completion%, 4,116 yds (7.3 YPA), 27/14 TD/INT (2.5% INT rate) 4 fumbles*
Sims: 56.5 completion%, 5,800 yds (6.8 YPA), 38/34 TD/INT (4.0% INT rate), 24 fumbles*

*It's fumbles and not fumbles lost, and I could not find numbers for Chiles 2025 or Sims 2022 or 2024. In all cases that likely means less than 3 that year so they weren't on a leaderboard, but each total is probably missing a few fumbles.

All that being said, let's not be ridiculous. I don't love Chiles, I would much rather we find somebody else. But the Sims comparisons are ridiculous - yes he's played more, but the rate at which Sims turns the ball over is insane. Chiles actually turns it over at a below average rate.

Good stuff.

But Chiles still makes a lot of errant throws and doesn't seem to have a good handle on reading defenses. I honestly don't think he'll be a better player than TJ at the end of fall camp next August, thus I think bringing Aiden on board is bad move.

Agreed, but I think at least one of the QBs we bring in will be worse than TJ and the goal should be somebody who has at least had some P4 success. Chiles is not my preference, but he checks that box.
