2026 QB Aidan Chiles

Unless we are going to guarantee a guy he's the starter over TJ, this is the level of guy I expect us to get.

I didn't understand what you meant there. Did you mean that you expect Rhule to bring in a QB on Aiden Chiles' level out of the portal?

Yes. I could be wrong. I just don't see Chiles as a guy that some really good program is going to pay him a ton to come in and be guaranteed to start. I could see bringing him and say, Hey....we will give you a chance to compete for it.

Maybe he wouldn't want that. Maybe he's looking for a lower level school that isn't going to pay a ton, but he will be the starter.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with you there all around.

He's prioritizing someone with good running ability. And the higher the snap count for run plays per game he's thinking, the more durable the guy's body has to be.

This really changes the pool of guys we're realistically going to get, and the specific implications I believe exist are:
  1. There are fewer QB's with that kind of body that are actually competent passers.
  2. Out of the smaller-ish venn diagram segment from item #1 above, NU isn't exactly a place that players see as a great destination at this point.

And that's how you wind up with this one-dimensional offense where your QB is your leading rusher and you can't effectively move the ball against B1G defenses.

Before the nitpickers chime in, I just want to make it clear how bad I want to be wrong.

Why the fu ck did Rhule bring in Dávila if he was never going to play him?
He has played some. Regardless of star ratings, some guys just don't translate to the next level or fit the needs on a team. He obviously lost the competition for the backup role in practice for a reason but he was given a chance, just like TJ was.

I don't know the exact actual answer as I'm not privy to Rhule's brain, but there are a lot of potential reasons. One could be that games on Saturdays account for like, 5% of the football being played by the team, and many believe that a team is only as good as their scout team.

Hate to say it, but Davila with experience and competition at Purdue and then NU, didn't crack the top 2. This is the way. See depth chart- then peace out to "greener" pastures.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He certainly kicked our a$$ when he played for Purdue. And Rhule obviously thought highly of him, or else he would not have given Dávila a scholarship. If it's anyone's fault, it's Rhule's.

Are you guys mixing him up with someone else? He did not play at Purdue, and played but had no stats here against HCU and Akron. I don't think it was crazy to bring him in, the number of guys willing to come here with a highly touted Sophomore returning starter and a 4-star freshman early enrollee had to be tiny. Taking a shot on a prolific high school passer who (IIRC) played in an air raid system is reasonable, it's also not surprising that he's one and done.

He never saw the field for Purdue and Nebraska beat Purdue 28 to 10 when he was on their roster in 2024. What are you talking about??

I see no problem taking a chance on the kid. In 2021 he was Offensive Newcomer of the year in Texas 6A football. He had 26TDs to 7INTs. In 2022 he had 36TDs and 12INTs and threw for over 3000 yards. In 2023 he was the offensive MVP for the district with over 3000 yards again and 30TDs to 10INTs. He had the high school stats, and the frame, to suggest he could be a great college QB. Maybe he still will at another school??

I think he is a straight pocker passer like Dylan and MR and DH are trying to bring in qb's that can use their legs to escape pressure.

Yeah I understand he has talent just we as a offense are going away from so called statue qb's
SMH... I agree... my post was in response to street novelist saying it was Rhule's fault for bringing him here. We brought him here to be DR's backup because they have similar characteristics and he seemed like someone we could bring in as a backup for that system. Obviously our coaches are changing now that DR is transferring.
