Husker QB - TJ Lateef

I don't like either QB. Dylan is accurate, but no mobility. Sitting duck, to easy to blitz and sack. TJ has more upside being more mobil, but his passing is suspect. If we keep Dylan, then you have got to get better line play and better receiving play. TJ would take less upgrades around him to get better. I feel for us to get the best version and for the team to improve the most Dylan would require a whole team rebuild. TJ would just need some development and maybe a few better players, not a whole roster improvement. The defense regardless needs a makeover.
This is the direction I lean. All things being relatively equal, I prefer a QB that has some mobility.

The problem is less about the QBs and the inability of this staff to employ competent schemes. They don't seem to know how to adjust to their players' skill sets or land the recruits they think they need. Rhule can keep trying to replace personnel, but constant change doesn't help either. Might as well get someone here that already has that figured out. (none of this applies to Ekeler)

Lateef finished the year 2/13 on passes 20+ yards downfield (84 yards, 6.4 ypa).
He was 8/18 on throws 10-20 yards downfield (169 yards, 9.3 ypa).

Raiola was 13/25 on 20+ yard throws (353 yards, 14.1 ypa).
He was 32/53 on 10-20 yards throws (596 yards, 11.2 ypa).

Raiola struggled to throw the ball down the field. Then we got worse.

Lol - you post a highlight reel of mostly Akron and HCU that includes like 7 passes over 10 yds in the air. He threw 250 passes and this was a highlight reel. I could make one of Haarberg look pretty much the same. He made some good passes over 10 yds. Just not many
Your analysis continues to be superb. Akron and HCU are 4 minutes in a 13 minute video, your math ain't mathin. If you would have followed the assignment literally the first 2 plays of the video are accurate passes over 10 yards and a scramble. Go ahead and watch the minute plus of Michigan highlights and then take a lap.

TJ was a true freshman thrown into a tough situation, and he showed glimpses of promise, especially if Holgorsen wanted to take advantage of his legs in an audition for next season's offense.

Honestly, the stakes were pretty low for this bowl game, and while the ranked Utes were no doubt better, they had a lot of chaos and attrition themselves. Ranked teams also have a history of playing crappy ball when they've been disrespected by a low-tier bowl. I thought Lateef and Holgorsen might play loose and have some fun.

It just doesn't look to me like Lateef is a skilled enough runner or pocket scrambler to make up for the drop-off in passing accuracy. You always expect progress in a second year, but I wanted to see better instincts from TJ, and at times he just looked helpless.

It might be very tempting for him to transfer to a smaller program where he might still star, because whoever they bring in via the portal will be favored for the starting job.

For what it's worth, I'd still take TJ over the three QBs Rhule started with three seasons ago.

False dichotomy for 1000 , Alex!
For all his flaws, he's a talent we won't see again for a long time, if ever, at Nebraska. Anyone who wanted him to leave before he declared is a fool. That's not a false dichitomy. I have a feeling we'll all be wishing we could complain about a QB holding onto the ball too long but still making accurate throws and game winning drives.

TJ got sacked 3 times today still, it isn't like that magically went away complely without Dylan back there.

It's pretty crazy how many people were saying that Raiola needed benched, even before he got hurt. Lateef didn't get to 60% completions in any of the last three games (including the 37% gem against Iowa). Raiola's worst game this year was 66.7% (Michigan State).

And for all the mobility complains about Raiola, Lateef finished the year with 98 rushing yards.

So both were not great that’s right in Rhules wheelhouse
