So since he can't beat Top 25 teams Rhule has only losing to good teams??? Got it. 66 wins in 10 years. 77 wins for campbell in the years Rhule was a college coach so pretty close to same amount of wins except when playing ranked teamsSo if he's beating all those Top 25 teams but not getting a lot of wins overall, he must be losing to more than his share of bad teams.
Campbell beat Rhule the first two years after Rhule took over a program coming off the closest thing to the death penalty. Doesn't seem like that much of an apples-to-apples comparision.
I was comparing Campbell's nine seasons at Iowa State to Rhule's three here. I never said anything about Rhule's wins at other places.
He turned an average of 4 win a year team into an average 7 win a year team. That’s the easy part of a turnaround. The hard part of a turnaround and getting into the “miraculous” territory is getting to the 9/10 win a year programI hate Iowa State with a passion but you're wrong about Campbell being a mediocre coach. Ames is one of the hardest places in the country to recruit players and win at. What he did with that doormat of a program is nothing short of miraculous. I'm not saying he is necessarily going to be better than James Franklin but he could coach/develop circles around Matt Rhule.

As fucked as the culture around Baylor football and BBall were with what some did, there was nothing remotely close to the death penalty other than the conference withholding a % of their shared revenue. SO YES fucked up situation, but NO not even close to SMU/death penalty situation. And let's not pretend Campbell was so established. His second year was the first meeting after ISU had won 11 games the previous 4 years. And of course it's easy to flip a team fast in Ames as it is a recruiting hotbed.
Then maybe compare the same amount of years of the coaches when trying to compare.
Again Mav you are a smart cat, but sometimes you just spout crap about certain things that some posters post that make you look real douchy
And yes for the record I believe Campbell's last three ISU teams would have beaten RHule's NU teams by double digits each year
Well for the Nebraska fans who showed up to the game it wasn't meaningless but a lot of Nebraska fans didn't travel to Vegas bc they figured the outcome was going to be what it was. Before the bowl game, a lot of fans were saying this is a meaningless game. Judging from fans reaction, I guess it wasn’t meaningless.
Don’t disagree. So, I really don’t care about fan attendance and don’t see that as an indication of doom. Everyone knew we were the underdogs and major changes were already being made to the staff. Clearly our new DC tried implementing his defense with two weeks of practices. Thats not enough.Well for the Nebraska fans who showed up to the game it wasn't meaningless but a lot of Nebraska fans didn't travel to Vegas bc they figured the outcome was going to be what it was.
I wouldn't conflate fan attendance with confidence of W/L.Well for the Nebraska fans who showed up to the game it wasn't meaningless but a lot of Nebraska fans didn't travel to Vegas bc they figured the outcome was going to be what it was.
I knew they wouldn't win. I was in Vegas for Christmas, so I was able to go.I wouldn't conflate fan attendance with confidence of W/L.
I mean .... I don't think Rhule was Penn State's first choice.
But they ended up hiring a mediocre coach from Iowa State. Let's not act like it was completely out of the realm of possibilities that they were at least somewhat interested in Rhule.
We, hypothetically, could have gone into the FCS and picked off a coach who consistently wins 10-11 games and competes for the national championship.
The difference between us and Kansas State is the money and the resources to be successful. Yes I understand that their is no set formula to hiring a coach but providing everything for the coach to be successful here and then that not happening bc of the coach himself makes poor choices with hires, not having a true identity on what you want your offense to run, no true development is horrible. The coaches that the University have hired are given the keys to the car to drive off with but the coaches take that car and don't even know how to start it before leaving the lot.We could, hypothetically, have gone into the FCS and picked off a coach who won even more than Cignetti did and won five FCS national champsionships in four years, and then watched him go .614 as our head coach. Which is exactly what K-State did with Klieman.
One more time: this isn't some magic formula for success that your gigabrain has figured out but every AD at Nebraska and every other school is oblivious to.
