Arrival/Departure list 2025-2026

It's weird on how a coach sees a guy. Look no further than Emmitt Johnson
And not to beat a dead horse, but his position coach is still here, going into year 4 with no RB 2....And in addition to RB coach is the "Director of Football Evaluation"...If not for Dana, EJ would have been gone at the end of 2024.

Who does and doesn't count against the 105, anyway?

So, a little clarification on this. I had seen this before but forgot.

Teams had to designate their 105 (presumably before this year). Other guys on the roster don't count for the duration of their careers.

So no one outside the staff probably knows for sure. I don't know what the rules are but you would obviously be better off designating younger guys. I don't know if there were any stipulations about not being able to designate all the freshmen because you probably shouldn't be able to designate the scholarship guys you just signed. But I don't know who would audit that.

I had us at 126 guys on the roster this past year. So we would have to have 21 that don't count. We had 17 walk-on redshirt freshmen, so I would think that would be most of them. Then another 7 walk-on sophomores. Two of the freshmen have left the team. So in theory we could still be in the 120 range this year. I only have us at 100 right now so I don't think that will limit what we can take in the portal.

I’m a little surprised at how many LB’s we are taking but no large DT’s.

Does moving to a 4 man front mean we don’t need the 300lb middle DL’s as bad? Are some of these LB’s gonna be an edge on a 4 man front?

If the scheme is 4-2-5, LB would be the 2.

It’s curious.

We are striking out on DTs. They want both more & bigger guys.

I'm sure we're targeting interior DL, that just appears to be the thinnest position in the portal at the moment.

We definitely need to add a couple large DTs don't know if not having a D-line coach yet is slowing the process down or not.

Our DL was obviously bad last year. But it was compounded by the horrible linebacker play. On the rare occasions when they did take a correct angle, or not run into the back of one of our DL, the actual tackling was horrendous. If these new guys can flow to the ball and then actually finish the tackle when they get there it will be a huge difference. Same for our DBs. I hope basic fundamental tackling and pursuit angles are a big thing for our new DC.
