they are both coming off injury and missed all of the season including the summer. Do not expect much.

Oh I have been in those threads. Very few big DL’s being offered or visiting which was my point. We’re not missing them. We don’t seem to be trying to get them.

Or rather we can’t get them. No DL coach has to be hurting us.

You are correct, it was shown during the season that the size of our D linemen wasn't that far off from other programs. Not sure if those programs were also running a 3-4 defense though.

Seeing that, I always wondered if our issues were two fold:

1) Our LBs were sucking so bad it made our D line actually look worse than they were.

and

2) Was our D line so young that they had the size, but not the strength that they would gain with another year or two in the program? Size is one thing. Size with strength is another.

We were very young on the DL. There was only one upperclassman in the top 5-6 of who was getting reps. So some of it was likely simple physical development.

So then we were trying to compensate by doing a lot of stunting. Which backfired more often than it helped.

And the LBs were solid but not spectacular. They didn't screw up a ton. But they also weren't good enough to make up for the DL not being that great. And they're not that fast to help clean up messes.

I think it was the opposite. The DL was so bad it made the LBs look worse than they were.

Our LBs were slow, took bad angels & always ran into the gaps without waiting for the play to develope. That is why we are taking LBs in the portal!

For the DL Is it s&c, development, talent, age I’m hoping it’s age but afraid it’s all the above

He can probably get more than 18 total touches (including kick returns) somewhere else. Or even just get all of the kick returns - despite the multiple big returns from Williams, we had Barney return more kickoffs.
