New ST Coach Mike Ekeler

Any chance this leads to an exodus of NU's specialists in the 11th hour of the portal? They all seemed to be recruited via a personal contact Eckler had with a program in Australia did they not?

You guys, set aside your crack pipe theories for one moment.

Coach Ekeler - although good at his craft for a year or two - is a used car salesman and a vagabond. He uses high-energy tactics for leverage similar to the WWE. And he strikes when it's hot (I.E., does a good job for himself). USC would be his 10th stop since 2012 (14 years).

Wish him well. Would love for him to stick around, but that's not his MO/Tactics that keeps him in the business - and it is probably why he keeps moving from place to place instead of sticking around. Which gives him leverage. In a year or two he will be at another place.

It has nothing to do with Nebraska, but it has everything to do with his own "brand". Saw it coming the moment he was hired.

Seems like him and Rhule have a lot in common I guess the adage “birds of a feather flock together” isn’t always true.

You mean our one punter? I doubt he leaves. He has made good relationships in Lincoln and we have to assume he is being financially compensated well due to his early popularity.

Rhule’s comment on how plenty of ‘Nebraska’ guys left and pointed to Trev and the Raiolas. It made me cringe and thought the same thing that Ekeler and him didn’t mesh well.
Why would it make you cringe. You either want to be here or don’t. Trev and Dylan used Nebraska to their benefit not ours. Dylan could’ve sat a year but his dad threw a fit and he had to start. Being from Nebraska or having a relationship does not mean they want to stay here nor are they a fit for whatever they are doing. We need to get past that.

Did either one leave on good terms? Anyways, don’t worry about what makes ME cringe or not, just enjoy this process and thread lol

Edit:
I’m actually am not stressed about losing anyone. Dylan and his fam had their baggage, Trev had his. Ek seemed to be a big help but is now leaving. Will I lose sleep over Ek leaving? No. I’m just stating what the optics are to me. 🤷‍♂️

I also meant the one kicker. I was under the impression he would be an early enrollee and Eckler had big expectations for him. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, perhaps he wouldn't even need to hit the portal, just back out of his commitment???

Are we going to hear tick, tock every day of the off-season?

None of us likes where we are at right now. If you want to feel better, think of the hell of the Frost era.
losing dylan and ek hurt.....but i still give us an overall upgrade. an upgraded offensive line coach is huge and i think we got that. and coaching improvements elsewhere. and the transfer portal overall has been good to us...along with the iowa western guy who doesn't count as a portal addition in the rankings. i think he might end up being our best player addition but that will wait till next season to grade out.

2 things

1- HCMR knows he is fighting for his career. He really wants this to be his last stop. He has made some good moves this offseason. Will we see improvement? I think so, but the B1G is freaking tough. I am OK with an easy non-con for now. I have always thought the first step for improvement is to beat the old B1G west opponents. Like, go undefeated every year. Do that, and we are fine for the first step.

2-Do not get attached to specific players. This era is different. I am of the attitude if they don't want to be here? GTHO.

Fair.

It's just aggravating.
I think we all just need to get to a place where all the moving pieces aren't a big deal because it will be the absolute norm going forward. Let the coaches be judged by on field performance without drawing off season conclusions over things that we don't have the details about.

The above said, I think it's fine to discuss the stuff because that can be fun to guess the impact of changes as long as we don't get the noose out every time we don't agree with something.
