Cody Green's brilliant call

If he is good enough to be at least the #2 this year and they didn't RS, why would he be happy that they don't let him compete and earn the playing time next season? Besides it is about winning games, Cody gives the best shot to win if, knocks on wood, Lee goes down. If that holds true next season then why would the coaches take away what gives them the best chance to win?
First off, this is all "what if" for me. I don't think they're going to 'shirt Green next year if they don't 'shirt him this year.

The idea would be that we use him now when wh have little depth, out of necessity. Next year when you have a (presumably) better LTrav and a (hopefully) healthy Spano, that's when you sit Green to give him more time to mature.

That's what I'm talking about.

However, I think you're definitely right in that Green gives us a better chance to win from here on out if ZLee goes down, so the odds of redshirting him are almost nil at this point.

Green has alot of promise along with being an early grad from HS.

If the coaches think hes ready, I would have to go with them on it. As stated though dont burn his shirt for a handful of plays.

Guys I am sorry for this comment but it is the way I feel.

Who has seen Lee compete on the division 1 level? Two passes last year, I think is the total. A very very very few minutes in a game. Listed as number 3 last year, behind Witt and Ganz. No real opportunity to be in the game to show his wares.

How can all of us be so convinced he is the man without seeing him play. I am not saying Green is by any means, but this is a major concern. Very seldom do you go from being number 3 to All conference in one year. Some are talking like that.

He may be just like Ganz and do the job fantastic, but two times in a row does not seem likley.

Just concerned, not predicting failure by any means. Just do not have that warm and fuzzy feeling about Zac yet.

The resumes that Lee and Green bring to the table aren't comparable. Lee has a year of JUCO experience, that's his major trump card. And it's not just any JUCO, he led his team to the title game for his division, so that's not too shabby. Green hadn't yet played his senior year of High School ball at this point last year. Lee had already been through JUCO and half a year of the program here at NU in the Fall of 2008. When you're talking about blank slates at the college level, which both of these guys are,

But that's all beside the point. It all boils down to this - the coaches are the ones in practice every day. They're the ones with the real-deal knowledge. And to a man, they're putting all their chips behind Zac Lee.

The question isn't "Why are people supporting Zac Lee"" The question is, "Why AREN'T people supporting Zac Lee?"

:yeah

We should know weather he is the goods real soon.

I'm more worried about the calls Lee makes on Saturday than the one Green did in practice. Unless Zac completely falls apart out there, be glad we have depth, but don't get crazy in thinking a true freshman is going to take us to the next level eight months out of high school.

OK, he made a "brilliant" call, according to Sipple. That's great, but let's not forget he's still a Freshman making Freshman mistakes, too:
Sipple didn't say that. His position coach did along with his head coach. And I think you guys are jumping all over people for posting an article about Green and then saying that everybody loves him and wants him to start. True, the OP said that, but I think most fans are anxious to see what Zac brings to the table. I'm just happy that Green's progressing.

We're bored. If you have something better to talk about for the next 72 hours, now's the time to post it. :thumbs

Actually, we can't even say two times in a row as Ganz did see a lot of playing time two years ago when Keller went down to injury. All we're going on with Lee is his numbers from JuCo and what the coaches are saying. I'm willing to give Lee the benefit of the doubt mostly in part due to what the coaches are saying. I'm sure this has been discussed previously, but why did Lee go to a JuCo rather than a D1 school with his pedigree?

i'd say that if zac lee makes a few mistake in the game i really hope the fans dont pummel lee with chants of 'green green green' nothing to build up confidence in our quarterback.....

i am still holding on to the hope that he will RS.

I'm going to be a little pi$$ed if Green burns his shirt for similar playing time to what Witt and Lee got last year.
I agree with this. If Green is only slated to get the kind of mop-up playing time that Lee and Witt got last year, surely they wouldn't burn a redshirt like that? And if he's a clear no. 2, then why give him significant playing time at all?
