Carl Pelini

It sounds like there are two scenarios here.

#1. Bo brings in Mike Stoops or someone else as the defensive coordinator and more than likely JP leaves with Carl for FAU, leaving us to fill the special teams coach spot.

or

#2. Bo promotes JP to defensive coordinator and DL coach, and brings in someone else as the special teams coach.
Ross Els pulled double duty at Ohio as LB & Special Teams coach. Pretty sure he could do the same thing here if Papuchis were to leave or if he were promoted to DC.

As much as I'd hate to possibly lose JP, hiring Stoops is a no-brainer.

Someone needs to get into Bo's office and hide his valium then....

I want to see a Mike Stoops/Bo Pelini simultaneous meltdown on ESPN top plays.

So would it be bad now to say one down, a couple more to go.....

You're right too soon.
Couple more? I figured Barney would be stepping down soon.....and that's it...anyone else you got in mind Comptom!? Just curious....
Yep many people are talking as if Barney will be done coaching and taking a job in adminstration which many people saw coming for quite some time.

Also there's been talks about Ron Brown retiring after this year, and as many people will remember this was brought up last year and he stuck around, but some feel he may want to focus on his health and ministry and may be coming to that point where he wants to make that switch permanent.

Also knowing someone who talked to a player tonight, they said (in regards to Carl) that the team wasn't shocked and saw this coming and many of them do not want JP to become the next DC, but wouldn't be shocked if hires similar to last year or promotion within the program takes place. Hopefully Bo thinks this out and makes what he feels is the best decision for the program, which I fully expect in the end he will.

That would be an added bonus.

I don't know how most of you guys feel about coaching changes.

But to me, no matter who it is that gets hired, they seem like set backs for the program. In one way, shape or form. Coaching changes are set backs for a program. I believe when you bring a new coach in or promote a coach to a different position, there is a learning curve for not only the coach in that position but the players as well. it's probably easier when its in house stuff, but i don't think we escape this off-season with out making a new hire.

With the high expectations of Husker fans for next year and so on, I just don't see a positive side to coaching changes right now.

But i guess at the end of the day, college football coaching is a business.

It's relative. Some people can come in and knock it out of the park in year one, ie. Bo Pelini in 2003 at Nebraska. Other times it doesn't work out as well when progress/chemistry takes longer than a year or two to see results.
