Keeping them Home: 5* & 4* recruits in Nebraska

It would be interesting to see some info on the next step from these numbers. Specifically, where they are from, where they go/went to school (stick with the state theme), and who they were drafted by. That would provide some regional context and probably some more head scratching. Is this information stored anywhere? The data analysis would be pretty simple.
USA today has a database for every player drafted since 88. You can break it down by HS, State the college is located & Conference.

Using the NFL to disprove the rankings is a tough sell. Something to look at...but far from a good indicator.

(I mean, they took Niles Paul)

We do a pretty good job of pulling 4*/5* recruits out of neighboring states. Especially Kansas. Gotten four in the last two years: Bubba Starling (yeah, I know I know), Lavonte David (do Jucos count?), Yoshi Hardrick, and Chase Rome.

Wasn't Chase from Missouri?

I meant Missouri is a neighboring state. Not that we got four from Kanass. Sorry--not clear.

Lol gotcha. It was even more confusing that the others were from Kansas or Kansas JUCO.

i've never liked the idea of using the NFL as a measure for college recruiting. after all, the point is to win games, and there are plenty of difference makers in college that don't make the NFL. that said, it is a pretty clear indication that rivals (and probably all recruiting services) overrate players from the south. this is probably related to the high level of fans in the south, but is also due to the reputation (deserved or not) of the SEC schools.

and fwiw, niles paul is a hell of an athlete that made a lot of big plays for NU. this will not be the first or last time that an NU player that people loved to dog on makes it to the NFL (see shanle, scott).
