College Football Hall of Fame - 2012 class... No Frazier

International Man of Mystery
Tommie Frazier has NOT been selected for the 2012 class.

According to Ivan Maisel's blog post, some of the stipulations for entry include:

2. The College Football Hall of Fame began to announce the Class of 2012 Monday by revealing the selection of BYU quarterback Ty Detmer on College Football Live. The remainder will be announced Tuesday. Why does it take so long for a Heisman winner like Detmer (1990) to be elected? Math. There are 22 All-Americans every year. The Hall inducts 12-14 annually. It must select all positions and from all regions. And the Hall has a rule against taking players from the same school in consecutive years.

As you might recall, Will Shields was selected last year. If the bold above is true, this is a glaring issue the Hall must correct.

Is it that glaring of an issue? Tommie can just get in next year or something. It's not terribly urgent. The rule seems to be another thing in place to slow entry, make sure it's an exclusive place to be. And it should be.

Agreed :) exclusivity trumps all else here. Being deserving this year means you're deserving every year. Urgency is subjective. To me they could release a list of classes up to 5 years out. This could calm some people down.

It isn't that big of a deal...he's definitely getting in, probably sooner rather than later. Sick of it being a huge firestorm every year for no real reason

It passes the time. What else are we going to get excited about?

Even Tommie isn't playing along with my artificial completely natural and justified angst. Boo!

“I can’t control how people vote. I just go about my business and live life,” he said. “I’ve never been one to talk about individual honors. I’m all about team. The team has driven everything I’ve ever accomplished on the football field. I wouldn’t have any honor if I wasn’t surrounded by the kind of teammates I had. Without them, I’m nothing.” We caught Frazier a few minutes after the final HOF announcements were made. He was walking down the hall of Immanuel Medical Center in Northwest Omaha to attend a meeting. In his second year as a development officer for Omaha’s top-ranked hospital system, Frazier is much more into his job than his football honors. “I’m very appreciative of every honor I’ve received,” he said, “and I can wait as long as necessary for anything else that might come my way.”

EDIT - click the link. Randy lists all 15 of our CFB Hall of Fame entrants.

Let me ask you all this - Did the Hall of Fame get the wrong Husker last year?

Let me explain. Presuming this "rule" is true (and it's only been reported in an Ivan Maisel blog so far, with no HOF confirmation), did they err in enshrining Will Shields last year, with Tommie on the ballot?

The same question, simplified: Who should have gotten in first, Tommie Frazier or Will Shields?

I have been blessed with having been old enough to remember both Frazier's and Shields' Husker careers. Of the two, I don't know if I can pick who was more dominant at their position. I can see an argument for putting Tommie in and making Shields wait, but I could easily see how Shields earned the honor over Tommie. Tough call.
