College Football Hall of Fame - 2012 class... No Frazier

How did RC Slocum get in? Didn't win anything of significance, and was maybe one of the dirtiest coaches ever.

Interesting tweet from Blair Kerkhoff:

When a Hall of Fame announcement makes as much news for who doesn't make it (Tommie Frazier), you've got a problem.

Tommie should be in... Funny how it's more about who didn't than the ones who finally get the call... They usually all seem deserving... Expect RC this year... I agree with questioning that one!

Isnt it possible that Shields was inducted due more to his accomplishments AFTER college. Yes, he won a major award here, BUT his pinnacle was obvoiusly the double digit years of consecutive pro bowls and starts, as well as his off the field demeanor. I feel Tommie is way more deserving than Shields based on college time alone.

As far as the two year rule, we'll see how that holds up when frickin Bama or USC have players nominated 2 years in a row (yes, I'm playing the bitter "everyone hates us" card)

It isn't that big of a deal...he's definitely getting in, probably sooner rather than later. Sick of it being a huge firestorm every year for no real reason
It passes the time. What else are we going to get excited about?

Let me ask you all this - Did the Hall of Fame get the wrong Husker last year?

Let me explain. Presuming this "rule" is true (and it's only been reported in an Ivan Maisel blog so far, with no HOF confirmation), did they err in enshrining Will Shields last year, with Tommie on the ballot?

The same question, simplified: Who should have gotten in first, Tommie Frazier or Will Shields?

I have been blessed with having been old enough to remember both Frazier's and Shields' Husker careers. Of the two, I don't know if I can pick who was more dominant at their position. I can see an argument for putting Tommie in and making Shields wait, but I could easily see how Shields earned the honor over Tommie. Tough call.
they got it right.

Frazier was Heisman trophy runner-up, led Nebraska to back-to-back national championships, QB'd arguably the greatest team ever, and was the only player EVER to be MVP in three consecutive national championship games. He's one of the greatest players in the history of college football. If a guy like that can't get in to the HOF on his first ballot, there's something wrong.

Brian Christopherson has been on this. I wouldn't be surprised to see an article about this tomorrow. His sleuthing has discovered that there is no such "rule" that prevents players from entering in back-to-back years from the same school. HOWEVER (BC's wording/emphasis) they rarely do it.

It would seem as though Tommie Frazier could be that exception, being the exceptional player he was.

Yeah if there really was a rule written or unwritten against players from the same school getting in consecutive years...why put Tommie on the ballot this year?

Record as a starter: 33-3

National Championships: 2

Big 8 Conference Championships: 4

National Championship Game MVP awards: 3 (3 straight years)

1995 Heisman runner-up

Career Rushing Yards: 2,263

Career Rushing Atts: 386

Career Rushing TDs: 36

Career Passing Yards: 4003

Career Passing TDs: 47

Career Passing INTs: 18

All of these accomplishments and he's still not in the HOF?????

Christopherson also tweeted that USC had players enter the Hall of Fame in back-to-back years for like five or six years straight in the early 2000s.

Something smells. And it isn't GSG's feet this time.

Agree. "Exclusivity" can be determined by only allowing a certain number in each year - it doesn't have anything to do w/ how many get in from an individual school. Lesser QBs are going in before him - that questions the legitimacy (as if it's not questioned enough) of the voting/hall.
