Nebraska's non-con schedule still isn't as consistently bad as Wisconsin's every year.
Yeah, their October 1st game opponent was a gimme.

Grand Island H.S, must push academics very hard since he has a 2.7 GPA...
You ever met a kid from Grand Island? A kid with a 2.7 GPA is a genius in Ghetto Island.

I'd argue Barret Ruud and Lavonte David were the two best linebackers to ever play at NU... period.
-
While you definitely need a big "anchor" in the middle of the 3-4, Nebraska also just needs to get bigger period along the interior D-line. There is a reason Jared Crick will likely be moved to a pass rushing D-end out of the 3-4 in the NFL. He is simply not big enough to be a down linemen in the NFL. Quite frankly, he wasn't big enough in the Big 10 had he been healthy.
The Huskers need to get bigger period in the front 7 in order to adapt to this league.
Just because they're recruiting a kid like Valentine doesn't mean their stepping away from the 4-3.

- Nebraska's defense was disappointing this year and loses its 3 best players
- Very little development of backup players. Starters seemed to play even when hurt.
- The offense is built on a running QB that rarely scrambles from the pocket.
- Special teams stink. Nebraska has a great kicker, but all other aspects are below average.
- Penalties and turnovers haven't improved in years.
While I would agree the Huskers have a long way to go, I think your dire concerns are far too dramatic. I don't see this team slipping below the 9 to 10 win range. Is that acceptable? No. Is it difficult to stomach? Yes.
But for me to truly be "scared to death" the team would have to be staring at a .500 or worse season, and I just don't see anyway the Huskers will approach that level.

He shouldn't have been fired after a 10-3 season, but long term, Solich was not the answer.....
You know it's funny, I don't think Solich should have been fired at that time.
The irony, for me, is that in many ways Bo put together much of that 2003 staff as his staff in 2008, and to a degree, we are witnessing what may have happened had Solich stuck around.
Bo is going to earn his HC dollars next season. Does his D need to adjust? Does the O need a different QB? Can the DLine improve? Recruiting?
Lots of questions.
I disagree to some extent. I think Solich would've adapted NU's offense in similar fashion to how he's progressed at Ohio. Secondly, I think Solich would've been able to find some better answers at QB.
The records may have been the same with Solich at the helm, but I don't believe NU would've been losing games the same way. I think Solich's teams would've been far more disciplined on the field.

I won't disagree with most sentiments about our D-line. We definitely need to improve our athleticsm next year and into the future. But if you guys think Nebraska lost to the Capitol One Bowl because of "our inferior d-line," you're blind or don't understand the game.

Update
Westerkamp hasn't had time to sit down with his family because of finals. Now that finals are over he's gonna sit down and look things over with his parents.
He likes ND cause they throw a ton and they have 4 scholarship WR's but he still likes Nebraska. It's going to come down to him and his sit down with the fam.
No time table is set for an announcement but he doesn't want to prolong this decision.
Michael Rose doesn't think he'll decommit and Seisay has been talking about Westerkamp lately but I have a feeling we're going to lose him because of his Mom being a ND fan and the Catholic connection.
Hope I'm wrong cause he'll shine here with his talents. He could see playing time next year too.
He hasn't had time to sit down with his family? That's bs.

I now know why NU's offense sucked so much in 2009, the Husker's starting QB was smaller than the First Lady.

I interviewed Bo to shovel snow for me this Winter. He's currently in my top 3...may get a call back.
I have 5 more candidates for ya...up your way i think you guys call em the Packers Offensive line..... After being pimp-slapped by the Chiefs they may be looking for a job....
Have fun not making the playoffs but hey, at least you'll have the warm memories of your one NFL title to hold you over in January.
Chiefs 19
Packers 14
You will never take that away from me.

Yes, 2001 Miami would beat 1971 Nebraska. Just like the US Air Force would crush the Roman Empire. The discussion is what's idiotic.
Those Romans were pretty crafty though.

3-D TV's or Movies make me sick.... literally, it causes nausea, headaches, and vomiting. I can't watch an IMAX movie either. I don't ever get motion or sea sickness, but I will avoid 3D and IMAX at all costs.

Gomes has never been big on tackling anyways.
Your memory is either fuzzy or just bad. Gomes was a tremendous tackler for the Huskers.

I'm from Ainsworth and we always played the Ord High School Chanticleers in just about every sport. Coincidentally, I always remember girls from Ord as being game for c$%k.
The Chanticleer is supposed to be a fighting rooster.

Here is the kicker, this is his 9th coached defense. Out of all 9 defenses he has coached 3 out of his 4 worst defenses have been at Nebraska. However, his best defense was also at Nebraska. Take it FWIW
2005 (LSU) 185 pts (14.2) 13 games - 2 losses
2006 (LSU) 164 pts (12.6) 13 games - 2 losses
2009 (Nebraska) 145 pts (10.4) 14 games - 4 losses
Hard to say what his best D was. Maybe 2005 or 2006 LSU. They played a lot more difficult sched than the 2009 Huskers. Then again, probably more talent on those LSU teams than NU 2009. So it's not like his defensive strategies or the schemes Pelini puts on the field have gotten worse. I don't know where I'm going wiht this...
NU's 2009 defense was his most talented. Try not to get blinded by the whole LSU mystique.
Look at all the NFL talent on NU's 2009 defense:
DE- Pierre Allen, Now in the NFL
DT- Ndamakong Suh- considered the top DT in the NFL and maybe the top college DT of the last 20 years
DT- Jared Crick - will be a first day draft pick, potential 1st round pick if injury heals up
DE- Barry Turner- been active for numerous NFL games
LB- Phillip Dillard- been active for numerous games with the Giant
S- Larry Asante- Tampa Bay Bucs
CB- Prince- 1st round pick with Giants
CB- Dennard- will be a 1st round pick
S- Eric Haag- Cleveland Browns
S- Dejon Gomes- Washington Redskins.
6 of those 11 starters are currently on NFL rosters. 8 of the 11 starters have been activated on NFL rosters this season. Next year, 10 of those 11 starters will be on or have been on NFL rosters.
NU's 2009 defense wasn't just Bo's most talented defense, it was one of the most talented defenses in Nebraska history. If NU had that defense this season, they would be playing the aforementioned LSU for the National title.

Yeesh - surely he can do better than Whackjob-U. Good philosophical fit for him, though.
Yes.... cuz Southern Baptists are SOOOOOOOOOO crazy. I'm hardly a church going dude, but Liberty University's Southern Baptist beliefs are shared by about 30 million Americans. Its a bit ignorant to call Liberty, "Whack Job U."

I used to manage a hotel property. We had the opportunity to house about 40 college football players from mid June through late July while they were taking summer classes and going through summer conditioning. Apparently, their on campus housing was being remodeled and they had no place to stay. (Not in Nebraska btw).
We declined the opportunity for one significant reason:
Who in their right mind would want 40 college football players staying in their hotel for 6 weeks?
I didn't want two floors of my hotel to turn into a 6 week party.

What the hell was going on in Lincoln last weekend? And a Smart Car?

As fans we all want and expect to win but let's face the truth. If you look at it realistically the team with the best offensive and defensive line usually wins. Our d line is not good. They are beaten...battered...bruised and even before a rash of injuries not great. Our oline is makeshift at best. Made of freshman, sophomores and walkons. If I were an analyst I'm going gamecocks.
Please... If NU loses it will be due to turnovers. The lines will be as healthy as they've been all year. They are what they are.
-
LMAO at number 11. hasnt even played a game yet.
Yeah... no doubt. Blake Bell? Seriously?
-
Robert Smith also predicted NU to beat Wisconsin, lose to Michigan State and Penn State, and beat Michigan.... And Todd McShay is an asshat.

According to media reports, Pelini is telling both players he wants them at QB. Fuller is the better runner with more explosiveness. He reminds me of a smaller version of Braxton Miller.
Tommy Armstrong is the better overall QB with a better arm, quicker release, better throwing fundamentals, and he plays in a far more complex offensive system for the top team in Texas 5A.
Armstrong is a good runner, but he doesn't have Fuller's speed or vision in the open field.
We obviously want both guys on campus. That's obvious, but which guy do you want behind center?
