Funny the differing opinions on this. IMO, doing your job does not justify a tip. No. Doing your job very well, then yes. Just because you are a waiter/waitress whatever, does not qualify you for a tip. Reward for disrespect or bad service? nope. I don't care if that's how they make their living. They chose the job, period. People don't deserve rewards for every little thing, just like kids don't. That's what has gotten society to where it's at today. Lower work ethic because of participation trophies, tips just to tip, happy feel good crap. Do the job well and you will be rewarded! Just like in sports! And trashing a team or anything like that is not something a waiter should be discussing outloud! Almost every job you have to be careful what you say and where/when. It's no different. That's disrespect. I wouldn't have tipped the guy either. Not a penny.

    OK,

Although this isn't really relevant to the BR situation, I have to correct you .

Tipping is not a "surprise bonus" for being a super-dooper exceptional server. In America certain professions are exempt from minimum wage laws because there is an expectation of some level of tipping. People would not take those jobs at those wages without that expectation.

I'm not saying that you should always tip. Poor service deserves poor tipping. The whole point is to provide an incentive for exceptional service. That being said, 15% is a standard amount for tipping in America for professions in which they are allowed to pay below minimum wage. That means that if the service is good (not blow-your-mind excellent), you are obliged to give somewhere near 15%.

If you routinely give less than that, you should reconsider the restaurants you frequent. You are obviously unhappy with their service. Either that or you are too cheap to be eating at sit-down restaurants.

Sure, I get that. But actually you're saying the same thing I meant! I agree, if service is acceptable, good, great, you should tip accordingly. I don't see it as a bonus. However, if you're not satisfied for whatever reason, then it is perfectly acceptable to not tip! In this case, he was offended by something said out loud that shouldn't have been and therefore chose not to tip. Good on him! Now, posting it on social media, dumb.

  2.

From what I've read, the problem most people have isn't that he didn't leave a tip, but rather that he expected the server to know who he was, and why should anyone recognize a WR on a 5-7 football team.

I never really thought about that.

I don't think he expected the guy to know who HE was rather than it was his way of saying "think before you speak", you never know who's listening...

  4. I'll tell you right now, Gangwish is not just an average player. He would start at a lot of D1 programs. Maybe doesn't have the sacks but has a lot of hurries and would have a lot more if db's could cover. Unfortunately, opposing qb's are able to get the ball out quick because receivers are always open. It's a team sport. D line struggles when dbs can't cover at least for a short time.

  5. Dunno who paid him. Have to assume the U. What I do know is the program was in the green, by a long ways. As far as hockey carrying UNO money wise, not sure how that can be true if it was almost cut before outside fundraising kicked in. Must not have been carrying very well if that's the case. I think it's a safe bet wrestling would have succeeded at D1 if you simply take past athletes individual results against D1 opponents. They held up just fine.

  6.

Some of the misinformation or plain lack of knowledge is disturbing.

    1. It's public knowledge Alberts let them know over the phone they were cut. It was in the newspaper and reported as fact. Locked them out of the building and couldn't even get in to get their stuff, after just winning a National Title. - That alone is true lack of class

    2. Why are so many of you still using the financial excuse? Wrestling was self sustained and in fact, ahead on money! And moving to D1 would not have changed that at all. They would still host the same tournaments and same clinics that brought in the money. Little known fact they hosted many huge youth tournaments that brought in big bucks, so money is a piss poor, made up excuse. They made their own money and a surplus of it.

    3. They would have competed just fine at D1 level. They already competed in many D1 tournaments as it was and many of their wrestlers beat highly ranked D1 guys on a regular basis. UNO got a lot of guys over the years that were sought after D1 recruits.

All in all, football got cut so it wouldn't compete with big brother UNL. Wrestling got cut as an excuse to start hockey. Title IX, money, or any other excuse is just that, an excuse. As far as UNO hockey being the only hockey in the state, that's bs too. They have it in Kearney. Although it's not college. Trev has no character and certainly no class. And quite honestly, nobody outside of Omaha cares about UNO hockey to my knowledge. In fact, I had no idea it almost got cut until a booster came in. Maybe it's not the gravy train it was supposed to be? That would have been funny. I'll assure you there were many outside Omaha that followed and loved UNO wrestling and football.

And if the move was for UNO basketball to go D1, why? They're not good, and heck, UNL is not good at basketball either! Wanna save some money? Cut those programs!

UNO had hockey well before the move to D-1 and the cutting of wrestling. Also, you can't compare the hockey that is played in Kearney, Lincoln, and the Omaha Lancers to UNO hockey. The Lancers, Stars, and Tri-City Storm is Junior Hockey played by 17-18 year old high school kids. UNO is at the top of college hockey and has gotten great crowds in Omaha for years.

UNO probably doesn't care about people outside of Omaha. They are trying to position itself at Omaha's "state school" and that's fine. UNL will always be #1 for most Nebraskans, but getting a decent crop of students from the Omaha metro area and being a school of 15K students is great for UNO.

Finally, I never wrestled and I never played hockey. But, if I had my choice of going to a college hockey game or a college wrestling meet on a Friday night, I would choose hockey. I think the average person would agree with me.

True, I shouldn't have said start hockey but should have said build hockey. What's the difference though of 17-18 year old kids and college hockey? Not much! My point is, there really was no good reason to cut a self sustaining National Champion program!

NU wrestling finished 9th in the country. Of the top 10 teams, 5 of them were Big10 schools including Nebraska. 2 other Big10 schools finished just outside the top 10. I'd say coach Manning is doing a heck of a job in a conference that dominates NCAA wrestling. Not just a one year deal either, he's kept them in the hunt for quite a while.

  9. Man this was the subject of some serious angst with some on this board back when I said I had a buddy who frequented parties that RG was at. And my buddy said he has a puff puff? no thanks I'll pass problem. I believe it was around the time he started missing time. My guess was that the two things were related and some poster went off on me. Now according to the timeline laid out by RG the two may not be related but man I wish I could find that thread.

I remember the thread because I think I got involved in it and agreed with you because I had some inside info. that that was the real reason he was missing playing time and the injury(ies) were cover up. I took a bunch of heat too was told if I couldn't state my sources it didn't happen.

  10. No, I think you're wrong. In todays sports, MANY things get hidden for a long time until they are exposed. He would have been exposed here if his boss and him weren't fired and in fact those were some of the facts and reasons they were fired, which you will never know. How long were kids locked in closets and those sorts of things at TT? Penn. State? Are you sure you still think things aren't kept under wraps? If they hide more serious things, it'd be pretty easy to keep anger issues and physical altercations hidden. Are you kidding, you really think things are kept hush hush in college football? And anger control issues do directly correlate to spousal abuse. If he has no problem getting physical with 240-260 lb. defensive ends he sure won't have a problem with his wife. No, the players weren't cowering and afraid of him, but there were times he was lucky that players stepped in and kept other players from ending his tirades.

I remember posting that the guy is an a hole and that he would physically attack guys in practice on the sideline during games. A few didn't believe me. Haha, I know at least a few people, including players that are feeling a sense of relief that this guy finally got caught.

    I call bullsh#t

On what? And on second thought, don't care what you think. Gee, want me to give my sources or post a link? F off

I find it interesting that on the football board, when we were waiting to hear who our next coach would be, many over there said we should use the Tim Miles blueprint and pluck someone else from out that way. I read over and over how Miles was our savior on the hardwoods and how he has turned things around. Well.....what now? Hmmm, he's losing games, games they shouldn't that is, and he's acting like an idiot on the side. This isn't the first time either. So, does he get a free pass because it's basketball or what? And this isn't a post in support of Bo, sounds like it is a good thing he's gone, I just wonder why it seems bball coach seem to get away with so much more at all levels than coaches of other sports?

I wondered how long it would be until someone tried to make a comparison between TM and BP.

    Ridiculous !!

If we EVER find multiple hidden videos of TM excoriating the fan base or using vulgarities to players to describe his bosses, then feel free to resurrect this impotent theory.

Until then, please try and find another thread to excuse Bo's behavior.

Read my post again. I specifically said I wasn't in support of Bo with my post, I was more comparing the two sports and situations. Tell me where I made an excuse for Bos behavior. In fact, if you actually read the post, I specifically said it's good that Bo's gone.

  14. I could count on one hand the amount of sideline tirades Tim Miles has gone on even if I had three fingers and my thumb amputated. Hopefully, they'd leave the middle one be so I could use it when I see Eagle1.

Lol, really? I'm not even comparing Bo and Tim. My comparison and question is bball vs. fball more than anything. As far as him having more success in 2 years, mmm, don't think so. Tim took us to the NCAA tourney once, first winning season in a while, and he's a God, laughable. And as far as your middle finger, odds are if you saw me you wouldn't have courage to do anything. F off

  16. I've been read-only on the board for a few weeks now, which has been good for me but also frustrating. That frustration reached it's climax the last few days reading what many have had to say, on this board and via other channels online, in regards to Kenny Bell's career being over.

Some of you guys should feel ashamed of yourselves.

Kenny deserves so much better than what he has gotten from 'the best fans in college football', and for all the woe is us rhetoric being thrown around in regards to how Bo drove a wedge between the fanbase and the players, we sure aren't doing our part trying to remove that wedge when we continuously trash on a kid that gave everything that was asked of him for so long.

And why? Because he wrote 'Pelini' on his arms? There is literally not a single thing wrong with him wanting to publicly show his appreciation for a man that he views as a father, that he admires and loves and attributes his growth as a man towards, that afforded him the opportunity to live and chase after his dreams for the last 5 years, that his mom trusted to take care of and protect and teach her son as he left home in the most transformative years of his life. Kenny's gesture of appreciation towards his head coach is not at all at odds with his love for our school, state or fanbase, which he has repeatedly expressed fondness towards. You can be a 'Boliever' and a Husker at the same time, Count' Bility, and it's a shame that you don't realize that. The very last thing he said in his very last interview was, "I hope Coach Riley the best. I want nothing but the best for Nebraska. I love Nebraska football and I always will so, I absolutely want the best for them." The last thing he tweeted before his last game was, "One last game day as a husker. It's been an honor. GBR!!!!"

Remember that the other side of his tape said Family Over Everything. For four years it said that. His entire career that's what he choose to publicly stand for and remind himself of as he played. Also remember that Ameer Abdullah paid Bo a similar tribute. So did Jake Cotton, so did Josh Kalu, so did the entire team by leaving his seat empty.

Remember that when the 2012 team went through a military gauntlet training experience in the offseason, it was Kenny that was put in charge of leading a team across the pool in a straight line. It was Kenny that, when every single other person that had ever done it had jumped in the front, Kenny led by jumping in behind the team, leading like a servant.

Remember that Kenny has always considered his year on scout team the most valuable experience of his life, and wore that scout team jersey every practice and every game his entire career, to remind himself of where he came from but also of all the guys ahead of him that helped make him better.

Remember that every year he was here, Kenny was the leader by example among the receiving corps to do the little things, the less glamorous things, to help the team be successful. He was, despite being skinny as a rail, the most tenacious blocker on the team. He was the one that led Taylor and Tommy and Ameer and so many others into the endzone by putting his body in the way. He was the one that played through all kinds of nonstop injuries that would leave me in bed. He was the one that showed concern for injured opposing players and the one that was always ready to hold coaches back or calm players down when things were about to get out of control. He rarely had a non-supportive thing to say about anyone.

Remember that whether or not you agreed with his opinions, Kenny always spoke his mind honestly and thoughtfully, which should be applauded. He never once gave a canned PC interview, and he never cared if you liked what he had to say or not, because it was never his job to make you happy, and he refused to be a lifeless zombie play thing for your amusement. He was always considerate, personable and willing to give his time to media members and fans as well, often staying well after games and fan days signing autographs, taking pictures, and giving wristbands and gloves to little kids. He gave back to the community more than you ever have, likely with several years more time. He visited my cousin in the hospital after he was left paralyzed and had just recovered from being comatose. He was Jack's escort to the ESPY's. He was an example and a representative of our school and state that we could be proud of, and never had any off the field incidents.

Remember that Kenny is at the top of all our receiving records because he was good, not because he played a lot of games. Hampered by injuries, targeted by projects at quarterback, and a member of some very overall average offensive systems under average coaches, he made the most of every inconvenience and played a great career of football, while being recognized by coaches and media as one of the best at his position amongst peers.

Remember that noone on the team had more fun playing football than Kenny did.

I know this is already being talked about to a certain extent, and mods can feel free to merge this if they must, but I'm physically ill seeing some of the words that have been spoken towards a kid that gave me so many memories, laughs, reasons to cheer and be proud of the team I support. I'm going to miss you Kenny.

    Well written and right on.

  17.

he is a f'ing mess...........he is a true thug. embarassing to NU.

He is not an embarrassment to NU, he no longer plays here. He is now an embarrassment to the Lions and the NFL.

Lmao. He is not a thug. He is emotional, and has a temper, but a thug come on! I really don't think that he should have been suspended, and what was funny to me watching the game and seeing it live was he got blocked back into him and he stepped back stepped down and walked off. When they replay it in SLOW MOTION a dozen times and keep saying how long he stayed on him and how he didn't jump off quickly well I can see how some would get it in their heads that it was egregious. He got suspended because of his past and Raiola's stomp.

First step, accident. 2nd step, totally on purpose once he realised what he stepped on the first step. Made no attempt to get off quickly or even turn around to see what Rodgers was mad about. It was pretty obvious to me. When you step on someone, you know it and the reaction (when on accident) is much, much different. He has turned into a thug. Todays day and age, the NFL isn't going to tolerate him much more.

  18. I to wanted Kaz to stay, but he has let Bo effect his life. Kaz, you are a good coach, but do not go to Youngtown, go to anger management and get a real job.

Actually, Kaz is an a$$hole all by himself and Bo had little to do with it. He was an a$$hat before he came here and just kept growing. Even if Bo was retained Kaz was out. Continually trying to start fist fights with players the last couple years had him under the microscope (finally).

Anybody see the clip of Barney and other coaches holding Kaz back from fighting with a player or players? Guys a dbag, glad he's gone. Acts like he's in grade school

What happened? ESPN shows it once, then nothing.
Dunno, they didn't show it again but I'll promise you it didn't end there. Not the first time either, he's been called on it

    What happened the previous time/times?
Same crap, he was on his way out regardless what happened with Bo. Some higher ups not impressed. He's lucky some of the dline hasn't taken him up on it

Dumb move, I call bull$hit on catching one bare handed. Have seen coon dogs torn to pieces by fully grown raccoon. Enjoying the hunt, the sport of killing something with a wrench does not seem like a new world sport.

Power is not in killing, it is knowing what is right and wrong. Hunting at times is an unfair deal, but this was not a hunt.

Coming home from Viet Nam I vowed I would never kill another living thing, well bugs, and I have lived by that for close to 40 years. I grew up in Nebraska, hunted pheasant, quail, rabbit, squirrel, raccoon and deer. Seeing something die just because you want to is wrong. For food and sometimes sport, I can not justify that now, but understand others doing it.

This was not sport, it was not hunting.

You do stupid things, you need to pay a price.

I am all for the pu&&y. Ugh I mean Eichorst!

People have caught Coyote and Fox bare handed...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL38nvuKazM

Yes. And to be honest, I didn't really mean barehanded though that is what I said. We wore welding gloves and caught them with just our hands. We'd climb a tree, thread a piece of barbed wire down the holes and twirl it around. It'd get caught up in their fur and we'd pull them out and grab them with our hands.
