  1. Which era? Jesus', or that covered by Deuteronomy? You've been changing eras throughout this conversation. Further, which culture? Israel and its contemporaries or "other?" Obviously Deuteronomy! What would have happened to that time when the text was written? Which culture? And don't say "obviously" because you skipped to another era mid-conversation, if you recall. I have clarified now so what is your answer?
  2. No. Try again. I don't have to try again it is you who need to show what would happen to the girl.
  3. Obviously if it was written in the old testament it would be Israel, I don't know of another culture that had the old testament and followed it.

  5. I think that you're asking the wrong questions. Probably because you can't answer that question. You don't know the culture or how she would have been treated had she been raped?
  6. Bueno, johnny. Bueno. Sometimes it's hard for me to keep up when I have all of these secret meetings to attend. Carly, Sarcasm is not your strong suit and your lack of knowledge is astounding on this issue.

  8. What would have happened to that girl that was raped if they didn't make the man marry her? What would have happened to that girl in that era?
  9. Troll!! Carly, I expect better from you!! http://www.huskerboa...post__p__939291 Maybe you needed context? Nope, didn't.
  10. Johnny, you need to brush up on your reading skills. At no time have I ever said we are not in trouble. In fact, I've said the opposite several times. You seem to have this narrative pre-determined in your brain that you cannot diverge from. Read what others are saying, not what you want to hear. You say the numbers are not good but then you say we have low unemployment and other things that are not the critical issue. When do you think (what year) our interest payment on the debt matches our GDP? How many years until we can't pay anything but the interest on the debt? What do you think will happen to inflation when the Us govt tries to print money to pay it's debt? I am just wondering how much trouble do you think we are in? And as far as the left/ right thing, I was getting madder at Bush every year he had a bigger deficit. Even as bad as he was with the debt, he added five trillion total, I believe. BO has already added that much in three years. And if he gets reelected you can add another 6 trillion to the debt after his next four years. No one will touch SS or MDCIAD and we are in deep doo, doo. My kids we never see what a great country this was before all this spending and I really feel sorry that no one has the discipline to do the right thing (R or D). At leas the R tried to reign in spending with the Ryan plan. Good or bad, they tried something. The sad thing is that when we are all in the crap hole there is no solace in knowing we told you so.
  11. Are you asking what WOULD have happened or what SHOULD have happened? Further, are you talking specifically in the Levant and environs or in all cultures? Because not all Bronze Age cultures treated women like chattel (the Celts, the Picts, and various African cultures didn't). I'm presuming, based on the conversation, that we're talking about Israel and its local contemporaries. What should have happened was, the rapist should have been punished, brutally, and the woman allowed to go on with her life. But that isn't what happened, and that's very strange considering the fact that God's views on the subject haven't changed. God is the same "yesterday, today, and tomorrow." But, mysteriously, women aren't treated the same as they were "yesterday" by God's followers. What would have happened?

That is because Jesus is the new covenant, he changed everything, the old was washed away and he is the way , the truth ,the life.
  13. And I said we would be Greece in ten years not now. We are traveling down the same path and if we do not change course we are doomed to their fate. We will not have the default currency if we pile on all the debt projected, we will have unemployment rates much, much higher and runaway inflation. Maybe they'll have some secret meetings to fix everything. Troll!! Carly, I expect better from you!!
  14. I hope you know I am talking about ten years down the road, my initial statement was we will be Greece in ten years. If you look at CNN, MSNBC, there are many on there who are talking about the same thing. Of course, we are not Greece now but in ten years if we do not "right the ship" as you phrased it we will be like Greece, just look at the numbers. We won't have the default currency to help our country and allow us to print money at any whim, we won't be the world's top economy in ten years with the debt burden not addressed. All those things you said we have now to aleviate the problems we won't have if we do not do something NOW! Unfortunately, there many like you who do not feel we are in trouble and that spending is actually helping us. We will already be in the jaws of the lion when the spend corwd have their epiphany.

  16. I love the justification we try and put on this. Instead of a giving out commandments such as "If you rape a woman, you will be thrown in jail. The woman shall be given love and support from her family and community." A god instead says that the woman shall live with her attacker for the rest of her life because no one will want her. "Want"...remember that. Again, property in someone else's eyes. And probably in the eyes of the attacker she just was forced to marry. You think that's going to be a loving relationship? Please...don't try and justify rape and claim that your god was only doing his best with what he had to work with. No one is justifying rape, where di dyou get that I justified rape!?!? In ancient times what would happen to that woman you tell me, you have all the answers, what would becomeof her in that time, do you have an answer?
  17. We may be in worse shape than Greece, I don't know the total debt for Greece but when you add all the debt for entitlements we are in critical condition. 211 trillion owed, how the heck do you even begin to pay it back. I knew you would go the old fox news derp, but how do you explain CNN. And the numbers don't lie, you may notlike fox news but look into the numbers, they are scarey!!
  18. That bolded statement is not correct from my understanding. There actually were a few secret meetings with the intent to remove the dollar as the default currency due to our credit rating, debt, among other issues. The countries could not agree to do it but there is talk and as we spiral downward into bankruptcy that other nations will look to replace the dollar with another more stable currency. Luck for us right now there isn't any other nation with a better credit history. But it isn't that far down the road that we could be in trouble, there have been rumblings of another down grade to our credit rating. If that happens we could be in serious trouble!!
  19. Thank you Knapplcy, but there are a few things that I noticed. One, unemployemnt is a current indicator but when infaltion hits because of the rising debt and interest payments those numbers are going to rise again. And you never touched on the total debt that we owe, it will crush very soon. While these numbers are comforting you are dancing around the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. The government's total indebtedness -- its fiscal gap -- now stands at $211 trillion, by my arithmetic. The fiscal gap is the difference, measured in present value, between all projected future spending obligations -- including our huge defense expenditures and massive entitlement programs, as well as making interest and principal payments on the official debt -- and all projected future taxes.
  20. Bashing? I think we can discuss specific issues without it rising to the level of "bashing." I.E. Saying "Christians are stupid" would be bashing. Comparing the actions of Christian institutions to the teachings of Christ would not be bashing. In fact . . . I'm not sure why Christians would object to that sort of comparison. It seems like it would be quite helpful. I don't deal with many Muslims. In fact . . . I can't remember the last time I even talked to a Muslim. I'd be able to offer much more helpful commentary about Islam if I interacted with it on a daily basis. Plus the added fact that I'm very familiar with the Bible and very unfamiliar with the Koran, etc. Anyways. If you are well-versed in Islam please don't hesitate to show us why the extremists/terrorists are acting against the teachings of Mohammed. If they aren't acting against the teachings of Muhammad isn't the even more scarey!!
  21. Deuteronomy 22:28–29?? If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels[c] of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. This doesn't even make sense, how do you compare the two? How does the old testament treat a woman as a slave? You found someone who has committted a crime and he has to marry her and support her the rest of his life. Isn't marrying her punishment enough. ZING!! The other religion treats their women no better than we treat our pets and most treat them worse. Where is the woman's choice, johnny? It sounds like she doesn't have one. I am sure that would have been the best option for her. You have to remember when and where it happened, you are using 21st century logic in an ancient world. If she had been raped then she would no longer be a virgin and no one would want to marry her. She would have no way to earn a living because only men owned land and she couldn't survive without a male. You think a modern woman who has many options still has a choice to get raped? Once the woman has been raped how does she survive if no man is willing to marry her? The option in the bible was not good, but it was made to ensure at least the woman is taken care of if she is violated. And you are talking about two different eras. You are comparing a nation that lived two thousand years ago with a modern one so even if they are remotely similar one no longer exists while the other one is still inflicting pain and intimidating women to this day. :ahhhhhhhh
  22. Good grief, Johnny. CLICK ME I did not know they called female mutilation circumcision, you learn something new every day!!
  23. You're talking about Isaiah 14:21, right? or maybe Ezekiel 9:5-7 Deuteronomy 22:28–29?? If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels[c] of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. This doesn't even make sense, how do you compare the two? How does the old testament treat a woman as a slave? You found someone who has committted a crime and he has to marry her and support her the rest of his life. Isn't marrying her punishment enough. ZING!! The other religion treats their women no better than we treat our pets and most treat them worse. circumcision? I think circumcisions are for men, you must be thinking about the wrong procedure. I'm sorry...who are we talking about again? 'Cause both seem like insane religions. I don't think Isaiah had any bombs!
  24. Johnny, you said you were going to find the numbers to support this allegation. Where are those stats in anything you've linked? Where are your stats, remember you saw a show that had the exact opposite numbers. You are so worried about my numbers but you haven't shown anything, what ya got, Knapplcy? I thought the point of that post was perfectly obvious. Apparently not. So apparently I have to show my numbers while you do not, sounds about right, typical!! So you have no evidence to back up your previous post, is that what you are saying? So you were just trolling, in other words?!?!
  25. If they weren't so busy swimming in their vault full of riches, they'd realize Easter isn't until next Sunday. Don't lose your day job if you are trying to be witty. And who says they have to have an Easter egg hunt on Easter. All the Chruches around here have their Easter egg hunts on Palm sunday, there aren't any Easter egg hunts on Easter. Easter eggs? You pagan! I am not, my children are!!
