  1. You are aware that tax dollars paid by John Q. Public paid for all of that . . .

So tax dollars built that road?

What...you think Obama built it using his 'stash?

there is nothing funnier than people desperate for money and help.

They thought it was funny...lots of laughing going on.

Nothing funnier than people who vote for a candidate simply because they will get free stuff. But that's the only reason Democrats win.

  2. The Mayor of Boston, Mike Menino, cannot deny Chick-fil-A a license to operate in Boston speaking from a "professional" position much less a "personal" one, but that's what he did.

First off, it's Thomas Menino...not Mike

Second, did he deny Chick-fil-a a license? Is Chick-fil-a banned from operating in Boston? Did the company recently file for a license and were denied purely because Thomas Menino said they shouldn't have one? Or did the Mayor say he would make it "very difficult" and then later state that he actually had very little capability to prevent them from opening restaurants and that he was stating his personal opinion?

Yeah, I think it was that last one. Which, if you go back and read what I was saying...umm....that's what I was saying.

Oh, now I get it. Thomas Michael Menino's threat to "make it very difficult" for Chick-fil-A was not based upon his being mayor because he later said it was his personal opinion. Thanks for clearing that up.

what is your point? so a mayor can not say that?

Wow, you think it's okay for an elected official to threaten a citizen because of the citizen's religious beliefs? No, Mayors cannot say that. This genius Menino sent a letter on his own City Of Boston letterhead stationary and signed it as the mayor of Boston. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/boston-mayor-letter-chick-fil-menino-dan-cathy-201952237--finance.html

Finally, if Mayor Menino thought he was right in doing that he would not have backed down. http://gawker.com/5929429/boston-mayor-wont-stop-chick+fil+a-from-opening-branch-in-beantown

  3. Why are you calling me a liar? Really, what's with that?

I thought that we'd moved on from that. But, hey if you'd like to revisit...

I called you a liar because you did one thing and then said that you didn't do it. That fits the definition of a lie. What do you call someone who tells a lie? A liar.

Like I said. Strange behavior . . . even for the internet.

What are you talking about? You need to revisit the Board rules: There is absolutely no reason to verbally attack another user (aka flaming), and/or posting a message for the express purpose of generating a negative response (trolling). Any defamatory posts made against HuskerBoard, its representatives, or any other member may result in an immediate ban or temporary account disablement.

  4. Apparently MDA staffers are able to access the internet and actually visit porn sites. Serious security issues here, not to mention the waste of money for paying people to surf the net. I assumed that by now everyone would have the ability to block access to the internet and particularly porn sites. Surely the MDA has a firewall. Should anyone be upset that people are cruising the net on the taxpayers' dime, or is this just another chance for right-wingers to manufacture outrage?

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-01/missile-defense-staff-warned-to-stop-surfing-porn-sites.html

  5. Yes, I sell gaffes to the White House. They prefer used ones.

Gaffes? I thought that we were talking about totally real statements and not at all about manufactured outrage?

I'll take the name as a sign that you're done PMing complaints to Mods about being called "Yos." A grown man complaining about being called a shortened form of his name on the internet? That's hilarious.

No, I don't PM Mods about your personal attacks. Should I?.

That's not a personal attack. That's just very funny.

Also . . . I think a more clear picture of Yossarian is emerging. Strange behavior. All of it. Including these lies. I don't know if it's insecurity or what . . . but it's definitely strange.

Why are you calling me a liar? Really, what's with that?

  7. Teleprompter jokes sadden me. There is so much to legitimately criticize about President Obama . . . and people can't rise above teleprompters. :(

They are worse than jokes about Romney's dog or his wife's MS. :(

Who on HB has joked about his wife's MS? That's not sad . . . that's wrong.

Are you serious? You don't know? Here's an ABC news item whereby the DNC apologizes for an ad that mocked the use of her horse for MS therapy. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/dnc-regrets-offending-ann-romney-no-more-horse-ads/

Here's video of Lawrence O'Donnell mocks the use of a horse to for MS therapy. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2012/06/19/lawrence-odonnell-attacks-ann-romney-riding-horses-combat-multiple-sc

  8. I don't care about same-sex marriage. What I care about is the Government (at any level) telling someone what they can or cannot believe - especially when it comes to the 1st Amendment.

Do you care about the government telling people who they can or cannot marry?

Yes, I care. The Government has no authority to do that. Nor should it rig the tax code to benefit one form over another.

    Do you care?

  9.

The outrage over elected officials infringing on our personal freedoms was only a byproduct of what went down. It was an overreaction by a small majority of those in office. Even as a supporter of gay rights, I had to roll my eyes at their comments. Because they were speaking from a personal position and not a professional one.

The Mayor of Boston, Mike Menino, cannot deny Chick-fil-A a license to operate in Boston speaking from a "professional" position much less a "personal" one, but that's what he did.

Until Chick-fil-A is proven to be discriminating against gays (and they might be), what the COO says is off little importance. It might offend people, but six months ago, Barack Obama would not endorse same-sex marriage. I don't care about same-sex marriage. What I care about is the Government (at any level) telling someone what they can or cannot believe - especially when it comes to the 1st Amendment.

  10. has this happened? i think it has been all talk. but my favorite argument is, 'if you don't like it, don't do it'. you can not legislate morality or acceptance. i agree this is all silly. but the mayors and such have their right to voice their displeasure of such businesses operating under their jurisdictions.

Actually, some mayors have threatened to not allow "such businesses" to gain the necessary permits to open stores in their jurisdictions. That's a typical liberal ploy - use the power of Government to threaten people who they disagree with. Since making the threats, most of the political thugs have backed down when they realized that their threats were illegal. I especiall like Rahm Emanuel's comment about Ciick-fil-A's values not being Chicago values. He's right...murder is not on the restaurant's menu.

  11. Since the Brady Act requiring background checks which are supposed to be done; 1998 to 2010 149 million checks have been done. Same FBI info violent crime from 1991 to 2010 all violent crime has dropped murder from 9,8 to 4.3 per 100k, etc. Yet, the population has increased. How can this be you say. Has it been due to some superduper gun laws, no. Has it been do to less people, no.

Two things increased: population and the number of people buying guns. just sayin'

Unprecedented drops in crime rate began, basically, in 1991 and continue up to the present day. Mostly due to decline in crack epidemic and increasing rates of incarceration. Access to guns and changes in gun laws had almost no effect in either direction. Decent explanation: http://pricetheory.u...hyCrime2004.pdf

Don't confuse the argument with facts.

  12. I believe these "parts" are not good.

    1) Job creation. (What do you think that Obama should do? How should he get around GOP obstruction?) So, killing the Keystone Pipeline was the GOP's fault? And of the $800B in stimulus, less than 7 percent went for infrastructure. http://www.recovery....rantsloans.aspx

    2) Deficit reduction. (Obama still hasn't matched Bush's record deficit. http://www.usgovernm...icit_chart.html) Hmmmm. The reference you posted says that Obama's deficits add up to $4.821T. Bush's - $2.033T. You're right...they don't match up.

    3) Transparency in Government. (Agreed. Big problem. Not sure that you'll help matters by voting for Mitt "Burn the Hard Drives" Romney.) What? Romney burned the hard drives for Fast and Furious??? Sorry, but the "so's your old man" retort doesn't cut it.

    4) Illegal immigration. (Record numbers of deportations? http://abcnews.go.co...hispanic-scorn/) Apparently he is deporting the wrong ones. Released illegal immigrants went on to commit more crimes, including charges of 19 murders, 3 attempted murders and 142 sex crimes, the House Judiciary Committee said in a report Tuesday. http://www.washingto...-crimes/?page=1

    5) State of the economy. (Which crashed under whose policies?) GDP grew 1.7% in 2011. That's three years into Obama's term. http://nation.foxnew...ew-just-17-2011

    6) His budget. (Which parts? You'll have to be a bit more specific.) The one that was defeated in the House by a vote of 414-0 on 28 March. I'll have to go with the Democrats in the house and say "all parts."

    Responses in parentheses.

    [W]hat has he done right . . .

    Oh I don't know...

Ended the war in Iraq. (We could have avoided that catastrophe entirely if we had listened to Obama instead of Cheney/Bush.) I was unaware that the war had ended. Car bombs killed 20 yesterday. http://www.huffingto..._n_1723396.html

Saved GM. You say that as if it were a good thing. Except for saving union jobs, it did little good.

Killed Osama Bin Laden after W. failed and quit. Actually, he gave the go-ahead for U.S. warriors to risk their lives in an attempt to kill Bin Laden. They succeeded. Then he leaked the details to make himself look good. Still, I like the fact that he made the decision, and I like his use of drones to kill terrorists and their associates.

Achieved nearly universal health coverage by embracing a conservative idea. Growing the Government is not a Conservative idea.

Systematically dismantled the terrorist group that was responsible for 9/11. Al Qaida? Give me some more details please. They are still active in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now they are in Syria.

Assisted in overthrowing Gaddafi with zero boots on the ground. Give me more details on what he did, please.

Not bad for 3.5 years . . . much of that during the most obstructionist/do nothing Congress in the modern era. Are you aware that Dems controlled both Senate and House for two years?

Please, we all await with bated breat.

"Breat?" I hope that I don't have to report that. :(Go ahead...but do it after 5:00PM.

    My comments in bold.

  13. Barack Obama was elected simply because he was not George Bush. Why else? He surely wasn't qualified.

If qualifications are your big issue than you must be voting for Obama this time, right?

And his record the past 3 1/2 years make Pee Wee Herman look pretty good.

    Which parts, specifically?

How about you telling me what he has done right?

I believe these "parts" are not good.

    1) Job creation.

    2) Deficit reduction.

    3) Transparency in Government.

    4) Illegal immigration.

    5) State of the economy.

    6) His budget.

    Your take on these?

Based on the past 3 1/2 years, what has he done right besides pass Obamacare - which a majority of Americans oppose?

Again, you tell me why you are voting keep the most inept man to occupy the White House for another four years. Please, we all await with bated breat.

  14. This is a good point, Comish. Can you tell us who/what Romney is?

    He's not Barack Obama.

I didn't expect such candor, but that's pretty obviously his only necessary qualification for Republicans. Thanks, Yossarian.

That should also be enough for moderates.

Barack Obama was elected simply because he was not George Bush. Why else? He surely wasn't qualified. And his record the past 3 1/2 years make Pee Wee Herman look pretty good. At least Pee Wee know what he was doing when he was busted a few years back.

  15.

You do realize that the Constitution was written in a way that we could amend it in the future, correct? Thomas Jefferson even said that the amendments should expire after 19 years. Don't try and lecture me over the Constitution. I took an oath to protect that document with my life when I joined the Marine Corps. I took the time to educate myself over it. It's nutty right wingers like you who need some perspective.

Don't play the "veteran card" on me. I spent a few years in uniform too. Plus, I believe you guys should work on amending the Constitution - make it illegal to own any gun. Get back to me on that...

I'm not 'pulling the veteran card'. I'm simply stating why I have so much passion about this issue. People like you are exactly what's wrong with this country. So complacent and so stuck in the past, that any proposed change is nails on the chalkboard to you. It really disgusts me that you and your ilk get away with that. The fact that you're a veteran makes it even worse.

My ilk and I get away with respecting the Constitution and it disgusts you - that's a unique perspective. Tell me more. BTW, I was active duty.

You were active duty? Congrats! I'm a reservist. What's that matter? Do you think you have more right to an opinion because you were active duty?

Not really...you're the one who pulled the veteran card on me. I'm sure the Constitution needs to be protected and defended in Lincoln.

  17. Antonin Scalia: There Are 'Undoubtedly' Limits To A Person's Right To Carry Guns (VIDEO)

Scalia pointed out Sunday that that the Second Amendment "obviously" doesn't apply to weapons that can't be hand-carried, and modern-day weapons like "hand-held rocket launchers that can bring down airplanes" weren't factored in at the time of the writing of the Constitution.

“My starting point and probably my ending point will be what limitations are within the understood limitations that the society had at the time,” he said. “They had some limitations on the nature of arms that could be borne. So we’ll see what those limitations are as applied to modern weapons.”

I saw that this morning too - I thought that was a good interview. I doubt if you're buying his book...right? The key word is "bear."

  18.

  19. still, not sure what your point was or if you actually believe the constitution should never be ratified and we should continue living under all the pretenses of the 18th century society.

Bad news for you...the Constitution was ratified. Or were you so excited that you meant to type the word "amended"? I'm the guy who suggested you gun control advocates start a campaign to amend the Constitution to ban owning arms.
