  1. Since the B1G apparently has nothing to play for anymore, I will call this season a success if Indiana beats Missouri and exposes the SEC poll myth. That is, if an SEC teams beats another SEC team, you move up 10+ spots. The losing SEC only drops a couple because they just lost to a highly ranked SEC team. They just flip flop with each other in the polls.

Eh - you need to remember that the committee voting doesn't happen until end of Oct and will not refer to the AP & Coaches polls. I wouldn't worry about this until at least the initial poll comes out in 6 weeks.

  2. At first I thought the entire tourney wasn't going to be on TV but it looks like it's just some of the early games that will miss TV. Not sure why they decided to skip those though.

  3. If I am not mistaken, student-athletes with lesser means can still apply for Pell grants to cover the additional $3,422.

Given the amount of money the schools are pulling in, they are (and should) be able to supply living expenses to the kids without asking them to turn to federal aid. That they're unable to do so right now is a pretty frustrating situation for the schools.

  4. I was actually pleasantly surprised by this year's draft - Big Ten has some of the youngest teams across the entire nation so I I was expecting to be closer to the mid-20s range this year in terms of total draftees. Hopefully that means an even better showing next year!

  5. I have a hard time thinking that MSU's D will be as dominant as last year considering that they are replacing pretty much their entire D. Michigan's probably still a year away unfortunately...so it's probably OSU's to lose, as much as I hate to admit.

  6. It'll be a bit better starting next year once the playoffs start - still just one non-major bowl (the yet to be formally announced Detroit Lions bowl) but the bowl ordering will be better so that we're not matching up lower picks than the opposing team as often.

The fact that the conference will have more of a say in who goes to which bowl will play a factor as well.

  7. Either Michigan's O-line got a lot better over the past 2 weeks or OSU's defensive front 7 is pretty mediocre.

Good game though - tough loss but I loved the way the team played after a pretty disappointing season. Played 7 one possession games this year and went 3-4. Hoping for a strong bowl outing and improvement next year.

  8. Bloomberg donated $315M to Johns Hopkins a year or so back, that's the single biggest donation. If you add up multiple donations over time from the same people there are a few with larger sums than Ross's $300M but it's definitely in the Top 10 - possibly Top 5.

  9. For comparison...

    SEC

    Bowl Tier 1

    Sugar : vs. Big 12

    Bowl Tier 2

Orange vs. ACC (SEC will send a team to Orange a minimum of 3 times)

    Bowl Tier 3

    Capital One: vs. Big Ten

    Bowl Tier 4

    Outback: vs. Big Ten

    Music City: vs. ACC/Big Ten

    Gator: vs. ACC/Big Ten

    Liberty: vs. Big 12

    Texas: vs. Big 12

    Belk: vs. ACC

    Advocare: vs ACC

    Conditional (if teams are eligible)

    BBVA Compass vs. AAC/ACC

Note the large set of Tier 4 bowls - the rep for each bowls will be decided by match ups rather than ranking.

    Big 12

    • Sugar Bowl (vs. SEC)
    • Alamo Bowl (vs. Pac-12)
    • Russell Athletic Bowl (vs. ACC)
    • Texas (vs. SEC)
    • Liberty Bowl (vs. SEC)
    • Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (vs. Pac-12)
    • Heart of Dallas Bowl (vs. C-USA)

No tiering, so selection order is set

    ACC

    Bowl Tier 1

Orange vs. SEC/ND/Big Ten / Capital One vs. SEC

    Bowl Tier 2

Russell Athletic Bowl vs. Big 12

    Bowl Tier 3

    Sun vs. Pac 12

    Belk vs. SEC

    Pinstripe vs. Big Ten

    Music City/Gator vs. SEC

    Detroit vs. Big Ten

    Military vs. AAC

    Advocare vs. SEC

    Conditional (if teams are eligible)

    Beef O' Brady vs AAC

    BBVA Compass vs. SEC/AAC

  10. Looks like we're more or less finalized - looks like we'll have zero tie-ins with the Big12 going forward, which is a bit surprising. Makes sense to have the lowest bowl being vs C-USA though.

    Bowl Tier 1

    Rose : vs. Pac-12

    Bowl Tier 2

Capital One: vs. SEC / Orange vs. ACC

    Outback: vs.SEC

    Holiday: vs. Pac-12

    Bowl Tier 3

Gator/Music City (rotating tie-in): Likely vs. SEC

    Kraft Fight Hunger: vs. Pac-12

    Pinstripe: vs. ACC

    Bowl Tier 4

New Detroit Bowl: Likely vs. ACC

Heart of Dallas/Armed Forces (rotating tie-in): vs. C-USA

    3 vs Pac -12

    3 vs SEC

    3 vs ACC

    1 vs C-USA

Systematically the top 4 bowls are pretty challenging but the rest look more favorable than the current setup. Like the mix overall!

http://blogs.mercury...ing/#more-31778 Looks like both bowls will be pretty high up on the Pac-12's bowl order : Rose - B1G Alamo - B12 Holiday - B1G Kraft - B1G Sun - ACC With the Big Ten getting 3 of Pac12's Top 4 teams, a Big Ten team's pretty much guaranteed an annual game against Oregon or USC every year.

Looks like we're almost finalized on the bowl setup :

    http://espn.go.com/b...1gs-next-lineup

    Capital One: Likely vs. SEC

    Outback: Likely vs. SEC

    Holiday: vs. Pac-12

Gator/Music City (rotating tie-in): Likely vs. SEC

    Kraft Fight Hunger: vs. Pac-12

    Pinstripe: vs. ACC

Heart of Dallas/Armed Forces: Opponents TBA

New Detroit Bowl: Likely vs. ACC

I'm assuming a Big Ten vs Big 12/MWC match up for Heart of Dallas/Armed Forces.

  12. We're essentially getting at the same thing - that's why the full rotations for parity teams are shorter than the non-parity teams.

I think where you're getting tripped up is that there will be 3 cross-over games every year, not 4, since each divisions will have 7 teams starting 2014. That means that only 1(and occasionally 2) of the crossover games will be against another parity team.
