  1. One thing I will say about the fight though is Ive never seen someone ejected for what Alshon did(pushing someone in the facemask) and if Dennard wouldnt have thrown 3 punches neither would have gotten ejected, just offsetting personal fouls and warnings.

  2. Which part of Pelini's comments after the game? The 80% where he was complimentary toward SC, or the 20% where he talked about Nebraska's mistakes, and how we could have/should have played better? If you want to focus on the minority of his comments, that's your prerogative. But he was very complimentary toward the Gamecocks.

I didnt listen to his postgame comments, but Im assuming he meant the comment where he said yall are still the better team. I think 30-13 says otherwise but thats just me.

  3. It's hilarious when you have your best and most historic season ever and you're still only the fifth best team in your conference

    allsome

    Fourth best.

And whats even better about this being our best season ever is that we did it while having our heisman candidate running back out for half the season, our senior QB dismissed halfway through, and our all american WR being a non factor for the majority of the season. You combine that with going with our 4th and 5th string backs since the Tennessee game and the fact that vs Georgia AT Georgia we had 3 secondary starters out against their pass happy offense and still came out with the W. Every other year the things I just listed would be excuses for losses but not this year.

  4. Oh pshh. Whatever. Watch the game, get a clue. Don't be one of those people going by stats alone. Alshon had two big catches. Both of those catches Dennard was not to blame for. Cassidy, the safety, was supposed to have inside zone on that 78 yard streak route that Dennard ran him down on. If Cassidy does his job he picks that pass, or at least makes the QB put some arc on the ball. Dennard was on the outside of the receiver like he was supposed to be. The hail mary was crap as well, Dennard wasn't even guarding him from the start of the play. Stanley Jean-Baptiste was guarding him from the line.

Dennard shut Jeffery down. He had what, 1 or 2 catches when Dennard was 1 on 1 with him? Whenever Dennard was forced to play a team strategy and share Jeffery with others was when Jeffery got yards. Not impressed. He couldn't beat Dennard on his own, but he could certainly beat everyone else in Nebraska's secondary.

    Wrong.

"The Huskers were less fortunate at the end of the first half, when Jeffery snuck behind several defenders, out-jumped the group and hauled in a 51-yard hail mary on the last play of the half. Dennard, safety Damion Stafford and Stanley Jean-Baptiste were all on the coverage."

    http://nebraska.247s...-ejection-55356

On the jump ball, yes, but it doesn't say who was guarding him at the snap of the ball, which was Stanley Jean-Baptiste. And he didn't outjump Dennard on that play because he slipped, and was behind Alshon to tackle him, but he couldn't quite keep him out of the endzone.

Great receivers are gonna make plays but if a corner can cover him one-on-one with minimal damage (which Dennard did when covering Alshon, he wasn't on the Hail Mary, so Alshon had three catches on him and his one long gain, which could have been avoided if the safety was over top like he was supposed to but that is another issue, resulted in 0 points, so I would consider that minimal damage). It also frees up the defense which is what Dennard did when he was in there.

Now I'm not saying Alshon didn't have a great game cause he did. He made his plays and had a good stat line. I don't think Dennard won the battle, but he definielty did not lose it, either. So we will call it a draw, since they both took each other out. But, Alshon ultimately won the war as USC won the game. Congrats to you guys on the victory and hopefully we can have a rematch sometime in the near future.

Stop making excuses for Dennard. That 78 yard gain Dennard said himself he should have put his hands on him but instead he tried to run side by side with him and Alshon got some separation.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Ive never once said Alshon torched Dennard or anything like that, all of my comments have been towards the few who said Dennard SHUT DOWN Alshon, which he obviously did not. But like others have said, you see now why teams in the best conference in the nation have been doubling him all year.

  5. My point though, is that essentially, THIS hail mary was a jump ball. Yes, most of them are prayers(Wisconsin-Mich St game for example) that get tipped around and someone comes up with it. Alshon is GREAT at going up and getting the ball at its highest point. The man is 6'4 with a 35 inch vert, once he got his position, at 230 pounds he wasnt gonna be moved so there was nothing a defender could do at that point. I dont know much about your DBs but Im assuming they are around 6'0 maybe 6'1 at best which gives Alshon AT LEAST a 3 inch advantage over everyone. If he times the jump right and is in the right spot he WILL get his hands on it, your guys could do nothing about that. BUT, what could have, and should have been done is have one or two of the guys who were in front of him stay behind him to keep him from scoring.

I will give you this though, Shaw was able to hold the ball longer than normal to give Alshon plenty of time to get posted up in his spot. That IMO was lucky for us, along with yall not having anyone behind him. If he has to throw the ball any sooner or if yall have guys behind Alshon, that TD doesnt happen. The blocked XP, it bouncing perfectly to Gilmore, TMart throwing that pick to Gilmore in the red zone, all that stuff was fortunate for us. We definitely caught some breaks in this one.

  6. Alshon Jeffrey made 2 catches, only one of which resulted in any points for his team. Dennard was completely shutting him down and was gettin under his skin. Obviously jeffrey feels he is entitled becuase of who he is. Dennard was in no way innocent for what happened, in fact I feel Dennard did more to deserve what happened to him, but it is a major failure of morales to award the mvp to a trash talking, face mask grabbing thug like alshon jeffrey. What has our society come to when we kick a player out of the game for crap like that then not 2 hours later give him the mvp, for a game a barely played half of. What a joke. No wonder these punks and act like they do.

    Make that 4.

4 catches for 148 in ONE half is shutting him down? Ok...

Dennard had been getting away with grabbing and pushing Alshon 10-15 yards down the field ALL game. Correct me if Im wrong but isnt that illegal? Or is that just in the NFL?

And if Alshon is a "thug" for grabbing a facemask, what does that make Dennard for throwing 3 punches?

You can get away with contact in college, but not in the pros. I don't know the exact yardage. Nebraska secondaries, under Pelini, are renowned for their physicality. They do about as much as they can to not get called, but they often push those limits to the extreme.

Jeffrey is a great player, but Dennard played him tough. All but what...20-30 yards came on two plays for Jeffrey - one was a great catch on his part, and the other was a hail mary catch he probably will get one of out every 100 tries. It's a hail mary - no planning to it at all. Just get up and grab it. Props to Jeffrey for grabbing it, but color me not overly impressed. He's four inches taller than everybody back their defending him.

Like Ive said all along, Dennard played him really tough. Better than fellow projected first round corner Dre Kirkpatrick did last year. I wasnt complaining about Dennards physicality down the field, Alshon is borderline pass interference physical all the time down the field. And that hail mary he would catch almost everytime, at its core it was just a jumpball, and thats his thing. You guys should have just had someone behind him to keep him from getting in the end zone.

  7. Jeffrey makes one great deep catch, a hail marry catch he'll get one in every 100 tries, gets ejected from the game and we're to eat crow on this?

    :confucius

I never said to eat crow. I actually thought Dennard did a good job on him. Its just certain fans saying that Dennard shut him down when he OBVIOUSLY didnt.

  8. Alshon Jeffrey made 2 catches, only one of which resulted in any points for his team. Dennard was completely shutting him down and was gettin under his skin. Thanks for bringing up something I complete forgot about....You want to see a safety that helps over the top in man watch Stafford. You want to see a safety who bites and leaves the corner exposed...watch the other guy.

I'm not even talking about in man. Dennard never needed help over the top when he was in man defense one on one. That streak route that went for 78 yards was a cover 2 zone, probably the least complex of any college defense. Nothing tricky or complex was going on. Cassidy (assuming it was him, don't really remember) was off in la-la land for the entire play, and apparently forgot what he was doing and didn't have inside help on the outside receiver. Dennard didn't really even try to jam, he funneled him right towards the middle like he was supposed to.

    Actually, it was man coverage.

Dennard said Jeffery caught him out of focus on the big play.

“I kind of took the play off myself,” he said. “I usually put hands on him, but that time I put no hands on him. I usually put hands on him, but I tried to run side by side with him. I just lost my focus.”

The corner doesnt run side by side with the receiver in a cover 2 zone.

  11. The fact that Nebraska got their butts whooped in the 4th quarter shows very little; Nebraska's offense is not built to be successful in obvious passing situations. You're crazy if you think SoCar outplayed Nebraska in the first half, when both teams were allowed to do what they wanted offensively. The c$%ks were on the lucky side of 10 points which drastically changed the way the game was played. I would consider those 10 points to be outliers

Carolina did win the game, but saying they're a much better team than Nebraska is probably a stretch. The reason Nebraska was playing catch-up in the fourth quarter was primarily due to outlier events, rather than the play of the c$%ks.

Maybe you need to do a little redesign of your Huskers cause they apparently will be playing catch up a lot in the future, especially if they have to play c$%ks again!!!

Congratulations on your first 11 win season.

We have 12 11+ win seasons

Call us when you have 13 (We have 2)

Congrats, the team you pull for has done more than the team I pull for.

  12. Yea good game Nebraska. We caught a lot of breaks today usually that kind of stuff happens against us.

Tried to tell some of you Alshon would be tough for Dennard to cover, but Dennard won his fair share of battles too.

  13. Think he's a Gator. Looks like we lost him.

IMO, if he doesnt go to clemson(which is where I still think he ends up) he comes to USC. Mom wants Clemson(close to home), Dad wants Florida(SEC), the compromise is USC.

This one has gone back and forth for a while now. We had a great shot then it looked like he was a done deal to Clemson. Next thing you know right before he announces rumors spread hes picking UF then he decides to not choose for a while and you hear hes legitimately confused. Who knows.

  14. We are not out of the race for Diggs. We are in his top 2. He has more positives to say about us with more firm statements than he does the others. He knows the blackshirts, he loves Bo, he was blown away by our academics, his brother (rose) is going there, he's been to campus twice, he said lots of people have been in his ears about Nebraska and that when he saw it for himself it blew him away. He thinks it's amazing and he is high on us.

For the record he didn't go on about SC like us.

I would say you are completely wrong about being in his top 2, but all bets are off since we lost our DC. So who knows what will happen.

  15. Everyone in the SEC oversigns, everyone who is good anyways. Just like everyone in the SEC cheats, if ya aint cheatin' ya aint tryin'.

Also Im worried about all you 'braska fans saying you dont have a chance. Usually when there's no chance a team wins, they win.

  16. it's just not the same as having that kind of threat at the RB position.

No doubt. When we had Latt defenses had to pick their poison, either stack the box to stop Latt, or double Alshon.

Should we be concerned about any other of your WRs?

As far as them making Alshon type plays? No. But they are capable of making a few plays here and there. It wouldnt surprise me to see Bruce Ellington or Ace Sanders have a big game but I also wouldnt be surprised if they didnt do a thing, so we'll see.

  17. I dont understand this logic. They can claim the SEC will win every bowl, but if they go out there and lose every bowl it hurts the league's image, just like winning every bowl would only enhance the reputation. My point is that what actually happens on the field matters more than what some "analysts" say. The SEC winning the past 5(6 this year) national championships is why ESPN hypes up the league so much.

It's actually pretty simple logic. By pimping each and every SEC bowl 24/7, they get eyeballs to the games. They don't care as much if the SEC wins every game because they've already gotten paid via the TV ratings - although to continue to keep the brand viable, it behooves them to have the SEC win every game.

Further, by continually pumping sunshine about the SEC on their stations, it keeps the SEC as a desired destination fresh in the minds of all prospects, which essentially acts as a recruiting tool for the conference. You cannot deny that Bristol has a vested interest in the continued supremacy of the SEC.

My argument was that an analyst picking an SEC school to win their bowl game really doesnt do anything for the conference. Pimping the game itself is a different story. But arent they pimping out every game thats on ESPN?

The SEC is a desired spot for recruits because it is without a doubt the best conference in the nation. Recruits want to play the best competition, get to the NFL, and win championships. The SEC is the place to do that. Whatever ESPN says about the SEC is already known by the recruits.
