  1. People seem to be bagging on 9-14 as being bad, or at best, mediocre. I'm not so sure about that. Oh, it's not great. But it's not bad either. Maybe even a bit better than mediocre. Most of the coaches listed have a losing record against ranked opponents. Only 8 coaches have a winning record in their current gig versus ranked opponents. ( 12 have winning career records). And 53 have losing records in their current job, with 8 ties including several 0-0. (Career wise, 51 have losing records.) That puts Bo's 9-14 somewhat above the middle of the pack. Someplace between mediocre and great. Perhaps a B- in report card terms. So sure, there's plenty of room for improvement. But it's not like we've sucked in these past few years of the Pelini era.

Another thing to consider is that there are six current job 0-0 records. All new guys in the current job. You gotta figure that most of the coaches they replaced would have had among the crappiest records on that chart.

whatever you have to tell yourself.

  2. I think it's pretty awesome you spent a few sentences explaining how hard you cheered in 07, how you'd love to go the games even now, and then asked me with a straight face who was throwing their fandom in others faces.....

I mean, I'd go to more games if I lived closer too. But I'm going to two this year, but I'm not the problem. All of the factors you've listed would be rendered moot if the team was/were threatening for a championship. Including this year. Fans will find a way when the team is winning, call it fair weather, call it Susan for all I care, it's a fact. The economy in NorCal was godawful in 2010, and they sold out AT&T every night for the Giants. They filled a stadium that was falling apart, built on stratified trash and the odds were better than decent of you getting assaulted because the power could go out because Harbaugh turned the 49ers around. You have to piss in a dirty trough, the Runzas smell like old socks, it's a bitch to get into for a lot of the stadium and you sit on an old board, but I personally guarantee you every last space would be full if NU got to 8-0 this year. Winning sells. Period.

And Bo is culpable in that. Like I've said, if he won, all of his antics would be tertiary. But he hasn't, and he's falling victim to what happened to Charlie Weis at ND, his arrogance is being backed up by nothing, and it's becoming apparent the emperor has no clothes for many. You can point to 02, 04 and 07, but here's the problem with that.....

-02 was shocking, especially after playing in our last BCS bowl to date. It was also easy to believe it could be an anomaly. Crouch was gone, there was a new sherriff in town in Pederson, and the troops were seriously rallied to make the 03 opener special.

-04 ? It sucked but the prevailing opinion was that Callahan needed time.

-And if you think some of the main reasons there was change in 07 wasn't because people were threatening to end their season tickets and donations for the North Stadium redo were dryer than a California reservoir then you're just misguided.

And those three instances are different than year seven of a regime where they don't think they have to change. Read the practice reports. There's still ten men on the line of scrimmage with one poor sound looking up at a punt. There appear to be only long pass plays or shirt pass plays, with QB's struggling to make secondary reads--all the while the great RB's are being sacrificed for the sake of "multiple". You add these things up, along with the other factors about Bo I'm not going to bring up again because we all know what they are, it can lead to apathy.

So! Basically, it's all out there in front of him and his team. Win. Win now. Win something tangible. Win something that you don't have to invent. Because #9wins is not a thing. Being the twitter champion is not a thing. It will all get a lot easier when they stop being "Nebraska: #9wins just like Oregon! (Kinda but not really, hey look our coach is funny on twitter!)" and starts being "Nebraska, home of the Big Ten Champions".

    this is well stated sir.

my two cents on where we're at...

everyone wants to point out the fact that we're riding oregons coat-tails but the reality is that we don't have anything to show for it. i dont think bo reacts well to criticism and urgency. with that said, we have lost a big part of our identity as a football brand. i don't care what anyone says, its the truth. many people will say its a change of the times, but i think thats bs. Its not even the same culture that was apparent in 2009. a part of that culture change is attributed to the fans I think. With the growing social media and internet culture.... everything is viewable. So you have the ever so slight sliding of culture and shift of culture.... and then you have a fan base that wants to cater to the players and protect them from any realm of negativity. when in reality, this is just adding to the identity change and expectation change. used to be an expectation of business around here (nu football)..... now the expectation is to take big grinned selfies on the sideline with shades on. and the funny thing is.... people will get mad that im even saying this, cementing my point.

i'm not encouraging directing negativity towards players by any means. quite the opposite.... i DESPISE those goons who spill their emotions to players on twitter after losses/games. but i certainly dont encourage putting on a happy face and watching the program float down the lazy river.

  3.

Eichorst, who's entering his second full year after succeeding Tom Osborne, said he has three priorities for every coach at Nebraska.

"Represent the University of Nebraska with honor and distinction, No. 1. No. 2, give our kids, our students, an exceptional opportunity they can't get anywhere else. And then compete for championships. Everybody wants to win. But you can't win 'em all. And you've got to have reasonable expectations."

Asked if Pelini has met the three priorities to his satisfaction, Eichorst said, "Sure. I think so, yeah. I think folks are well-intended. There is no question about it."

  4.

The SEC asks the kid to grey shirt.

Or they ask the commit to find elsewhere to go as someone better than him took his spot, often late in the recruiting cycle.

also ridiculous... before you know it theres gonna be major league and minor league schools with affiliation like baseball teams. lol maybe not but, dam.

  5. The SEC asks the kid to grey shirt.

A gray shirt refers to a player who commits to play for an NCAA division 1 football program, but agrees to pay his own way through school for a semester to preserve his eligibility. By paying his own tuition, he does not cost the school one of their limited scholarships.

Gray shirting occurs because schools often sign too many players to scholarships. A football team is allowed 25 scholarship players per year, and 85 total on the entire team. Because teams do not know in advance how many players that are offered scholarships will accept the offer, they typically offer more scholarships than they have available. If an unexpected number of players accept the scholarship offers, the school needs a way to mediate the oversigning.

    http://www.ask.com/question/what-is-a-grey-shirt-in-college-football

gotcha... had a feeling it had to do with gray sh#ts. yeah thats ridiculous. you've got hypebeast guys that would sell their soul to grey shirt for a school like alabama, only because the name turns heads.

  6. "Things would slow down dramatically," Pelini said. "Some of these kids get 60 offers. Some of these people don't even know who a kid is. The whole thing gets watered down. There's no way some [team] can take that many guys."

can someone help me understand this? what is the current situation?... schools are over offering? what happens if a school over offers and the kid accepts? does that even happen? I dont know enough about this.

  7. That's right! I went to that #Nebrasketball game (sorry, twitter lingo) after seeing so much on twitter about #NoSitSunday. I checked twitter during the game, I uploaded pics and stuff about how insane the crowd was. How electric the place was. How awesome to see our basketball team get this kind of energy.

Never missed a dribble. Thanks to the WiFi at the Vault, it was hella easier to do it and hell faster. It allowed me to interact with the guy who sat next to me as we complained about a certain call. It allowed me to talk to my sister about how fun the game is.

I would never miss a snap at a game. But I would love to share with people how awesome the experience is. That's the kind of thing that creates buzz. When people on twitter get updates from @Huskers about fans at the game are having a blast. They say "maybe I should go to a game".

I am excited for it. Updates on player stats, injuries, and just social commentary from a friend in Colorado. I would never be distracted from the game itself, and I will guarantee that I will lose my voice like I do every game. I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that.

And if we're going to do this age-ist thing, can I say how annoying it is when older fans sit on their hands, yell at me to sit down, and leave the game early? Over-generalization, but so is "being distracted on their phones!"

thank you for spelling it out for the people who needed it. this is not a bad thing, its a hella good thing.

  8. Pro and cons. There is never a break in the action for TV ads, and even if there was, why would you want to check Twitter for injury reports or comments on that controversial call from people who saw it on TV, or check scores of other games, or any silly crap like that. Eyes on the field at all times. At the game, why not watch the real world through your own eyeballs? There's this thing called transistor radio and big HuskerVision.

    yes, I'm an old fart

Right, because the tv audience watching at home, as a whole don't check twitter during the games. And... Right, because the people who want to check twitter at the games will not be watching the game and glued to their phones the entire game. You're an old fart.

  9. all you guys who are against having cell phone coverage at the cathederal are old farts. its the same thing as using a headset to hear the radio play by play. don't hate because we want to see what sipp and faux tweet during the game just like all of you who get that convenience just because you're at home. am/fm radio or cell phone..... its all media.

plus... you really wanna be the school that visitors come to see and say "man, they're really living in a barn in nebraska."? lol probly a little extreme but the point remains... why should we be left behind when everyone else is getting with the dam times.

  10. Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game........

People don't remember this nearly enough. Every time I read it I still re-read it in my head slowly about ten times and just soak in the message it conveys, and you're right. That one play is the literal tangible example of this principle.

it is... but i've always thought of brook berringer whenever i read/hear that statement. i believe he embodied that statement.

  11. the contrast that miles has provided has not worked in bo's favor.....

miles' way: be open and kind and engage media and fans to the fullest extent all while thriving and reaching your pinnacle success.

bo's way: tell the fans and media to go f#*k themselves, and insinuate that any info is none of their goddam business... all while playing down to their opponents and delivering lackluster results.

bo's "bunker mentality" would be justified if his teams ever showed they deserve it or we should respect it. nobody cares about your nuclear secrets when you go 9-4 every year. more so, it creates hostility. and it's not about "info"... its about perception.

Remember when TO would give K-State our playbook to study? "these are the plays, try and stop us."

    Bo is lightyears from that.

Where in the world do you get that TO gave KSU the play book?

BP is not TO just like he was not BD. Tim Miles has a great media friendly personality which is great, but that is not the best thing about him. The best thing is that he is turning the bb program around. Winning cures all things.

Can BP be better with the media? Most definitely, but he is not much different than Sabin, Dantonio, Belichek, Harbaugh, Spurrier, etc are with the media.

The worst thing about the article is that Barfneckt turns a nice piece about Miles into a Pelini bash.

i've heard that TO gave plays to K-State back in the day.... just what i've heard, not gospel.

know what the difference between the coaches you named and BP? like you just said... winning cures all.

and who are you to determine what the article is about? lol let the writer of the article write his own article.

.....as if Bo doesn't deserve anything negative written about him. please.
