  1. As he surveyed his family's Fourth of July party, Freedom Akinmoladun noticed 90 percent of them wearing Nebraska football gear. And that was before Uncle Carlos — who “bleeds red and white” — went to work on him.

“He sat me down and explained Nebraska's history and all of the accomplishments,” one of the Huskers' newest commits said. “The people in Nebraska actually really care about the program.”

The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder from Grandview (Mo.), just south of Kansas City, had already visited NU's campus in mid-June for Big Red Weekend. He left close to committing. Only Kansas State's pitch gave him pause. But the Sea of Red on the Fourth sealed it. He called Nebraska tight ends coach Barney Cotton right then, delighting fans fond of puns on Twitter and extending his family's long history with the state and its flagship football program.

Sounds pretty solid to me! Don't want to let down 90% of the fam and god for bid don't piss off Uncle Carlos! Glad he's N and happy for him that he wants N

  2. what if hes better than Cotton, Reeves or Moudy a year from now. Tyler Moore started as a True freshman. If hes better he will play but I understand the logic of having him redshirt...Im just really excited for him and the Husker O-Line in the future

  3. He is visiting Iowa and then is going hit the Midwest circuit and see Nebraska, Cincy, and wiscy too. Don't know if he is higher on the Hawkeyes but he talked highly of.them. he is also going to camp at Ohio state to try to earn an offer.

Kind of optimistic after this post. Getting an OhioSt offer is alot easier said than done with their class size this year.

  4. Wouldnt suprise me if he starts next year at guard or center. If he continues to work on his feet and technique he will be tough not to have on the field. My only concern is his footwork, our O-line does alot of trapping, pulling and some reach blocks...other than that I cant imagine Tanner not making an impact early in his Cornhusker career.

  5. "everyone" said the in-state talent was better for 2014, is this kid one of them that was thought would be in that category? seems like a "tweener" to me, but if he's die-hard Husker, i'll give him the benefit of doubt. looks good on film, has big upside, etc....however, who did Michigan, tOSU, and PSU pick up this week?
PSU picked up a kid that's one star better, but two inches shorter and 25 pounds lighter than our slot receiver. Also had about a grand less AP yards as well in the same DC area of HSFB. So let me reiterate here, Unless you have watched film on the guys that they picked up, don't assume that because of star rating that they are better.

    +1 to you sir

  6. The same could be said about any recruit that has a good senior year. Yes it could get interesting around bowl time if he blows up on the recruiting trail. "Firm" is the best news we can have right now. But we are in early on him and got a pretty good shot of landing him. No committ is safe until signing day. We need to stay on this kid and go have a good year on the field.

Marcus McWilson comes to mind as he was also our first verbal last year. Also a DB.

  7. They're a school that's probably going to be on top of my list, Hirschfeld said. From what I experienced on Saturday, it was great for me to do because I got to know coach Bo and coach Cotton better. It was a big step for me and Nebraska and having a better connection with one another."

Coach Bo and Coach Cotton....recruiting for offense line? Not DE? Or am I reading to much into his quote... Anybody else have anything on Mr. Hirschfeld?

I think 2-3 years from now Nathan Gerry could be the steal of the class. I think he has all physical attributes to play strong safety and I think he could be a beast coming up to help stop the run. Wouldnt suprise me one bit if he is a 2-3 year starter.

still feeling good about my prediction...

  9. I wouldnt be to worried about this as 70-80-% of kickoffs are touchbacks anyway, especially early in the year when its warm out.... If anything find a punt returner. I think we should start with someone who can catch the ball and then we can worry about whom is the best returner with the best speed. Pretty minor if you ask me...

  10. I hope when the first team defense is out there they run jet sweep on the first play to see if we have learned anything in the offseason? granted I want our defense to be ready for all things but Im a little afraid what the results might be. In order to be a great defense you have to be willing to stop any and all plays regardless when it is called...

  11. has anyone heard how the scrimmage went last night? Injuries?

Same question - there was a 100-play scrimmage yesterday, right? I haven't seen a report anywhere.

There isn't going to be reports. It was a closed scrimmage.

The Gifford kid from LSE was on our local sports talk show (Doug & Daddy of Kearney). He attended the scrimmage last night. Said Imani Cross was really impressive. Was very vast. Supposedly dropped 20 pounds, but didnt appear to have. Also said the defense was impressive as well. Was tons faster and more athletic as a whole than last year's.

I threw this out a bit ago. It's not much, but it's more than I've found so far.

    Thanks I appreciate it!
