  1. The smart execution and preparedness of both teams stands out. NU is clearly not on the same level of either team.

One potential weakness of Ohio State may be the new QB. Accuracy has been spotty for him so far.

  2. Most fun: Beating OU in 1978 at Lincoln 17-14. OU was loaded with talent and ranked #1. Hardest hitting Nebraska game I’ve ever seen.

Most satisfying: Tie between 1994 Miami & 1995 Florida.

Loudest: 1994 Colorado game. Noise never let up the whole game.

Most disappointing: Losing to Missouri in 1978 at Lincoln 35-31. A week after beating previous mentioned OU, we couldn’t stop Missouri. Ended an opportunity to play Penn St. for the National Championship in the Orange Bowl (a game NU would have likely won).

Best OT: Has to be Frost led NU against Missouri in 1997.

  3. Herm Edwards to Arizona State is an F. The last time he recruited a high school player was 1988. His overall record in the NFL was 54-74. ASU is about to experience the dark ages of their football program. I can’t see him or the AD lasting more than two seasons.

  4. If Frost says no, then I would get behind DC Brent Venables from Clemson. His defenses at Clemson and previously at OU have been outstanding. He’s learned from Stoops and Swinney for years. When a defense gives up 50+ points a game like NU, you are rarely going to win.

  5. Too many fans assume Frost will immediately accept an offer to come to NU. Don't hold your breath. I don't think it's going to happen. His situation at UCF is superior to Nebraska. UCF has the largest student population in Florida. Frost has more blue chip recruits within 50 miles than NU has within 500 miles. His offense is attractive to Florida athletes and their defense is hard hitting. I believe he's at a sleeping giant. The only thing he's lacking is a Power Five Conference and maybe better facilities.

  6. I assumed incorrectly that Penn State would not recover for 15-20 yrs after receiving sanctions. So how is it possible that they won a Big 10 Championship? How is it possible they currently lead a USC team that many felt should be in the playoff? How is it possible they have a far superior team to Nebraska? Watching Penn State makes me feel Nebraska has stagnated at best and more likely regressed.

  7. I agree with the article. Many things have to change in the offseason. The Mike Riley run game needs more creativity. The O-Line is mediocre at best. Like the article said, staying status-quo could make next season make or break for Riley.

They seem hell-bent on throwing the football. If you plan on throwing it a lot in the Big Ten, you better have an elite defense. NU does not have a defense even remotely close to elite.

  8. Michigan hired Jim Harbaugh about three weeks after Nebraska hired Mike Riley. I would contend that Nebraska has as good or better facilities than Michigan, as good or better financial support and NU was left with as good or arguably better players as Michigan. So how is it, that Michigan became an instant contender for the conference and four-team playoff the minute Harbaugh arrived? Is he that much better of a coach? Are Michigan's players that far superior to Nebraska in two recruiting classes?

  9. NU is 5-0, but it looks like "fools gold" to me. Let's face it, NU is better this season but is definitely beatable. Indiana will likely give us all we want on Saturday. I hope I'm wrong, but I predict 3-4 losses the rest of the season.

  10. Since this season is already a unmitigated disaster I have been looking at next year. Unless Riley has a truly outstanding recruiting class, I don't see how things will improve. Mike Riley is very loyal to his assistant coaches. He has a history of low turnover on his staff. Based on that, plus what he stated in this week's press conference, I doubt there will be any upcoming changes to his staff after the season. I do think there will be a significant roster purge with a lot of transfers. With that said, next year may be worse than this season. Especially if they decide to pin their success on a Freshman QB (Patrick O'Brien). Here's a look at next season's schedule:

    Fresno State

    Wyoming

    Oregon

    at Northwestern

    Illinois

    at Indiana

    Purdue

    at Wisconsin

    at Ohio State

    Minnesota

    Maryland

    at Iowa
