  1. we have a decent size OL...a couple of big boys at OT

Kenarious Gates 6'5" 327 SR OT

Dallas Lee 6'4" 295 SR OG

    Chris Andrews JR 6'2" 295 C

    Chris Burnette JR 6'3" RG

John Theus So 6'6" 298 RT

there is a three deep rotation, but these should be the starters. Kolton Houston and Watts Dantzler will rotate at tackle mostly, with Mark Beard rotation at guard. Dallas Lee and Chris Andrews and Chris Burnette are fun to watch....Dallas has a mean streak at times. Gates gets excited at times and gets a little mean, but just watching Gregory, I hope he stays inside of Gates....Gates can be beat on the outside at times.

  2. he kind of reminds me of our ILB Ramik Wilson ...same type size and speed. We run a are supposed to run a 3-4, so our inside backers are a little beefier, our DE's run a little bigger too...but they are almost like tackles in our scheme...our starting DE's are 6'3" 299 and 6'5" 276(according to the roster anyway) ...we will stay in a nickle package a lot....but to be honest with you, I would like to have a man on the edge like your Gregory; that dude looks to be pretty dang quick....personally, I think he kind of looks like a ILB in the SEC

  3. Auburn ran nothing more than a modified option on us. They ran it pretty well in the first half, but we actually made an adjustment in the second half ( very odd indeed!) to slow them down in the second. The Barn had like 240 yds passing, with 73 coming on one play...their last offensive play. I do not know much about the diamond formation, but if it is designed around running your O with a lot of misdirection...read option type offense...then that might work....but I would put money on anything that CBP is wanting to pass thae ball, because our pass defense is.......absent.

  4. This question is going to sound rude to the OP, but from where I am from we don't have any SEC fans. I genuinely want to know how you live with yourself. How do you live knowing that everything about your program and your conference does is a complete lie?? How do you support a team you know that cheats?? Doesn't that diminish the games that you win?? Do you honestly get the same feeling winning now that your team is cheating as opposed to not cheating. How does it feel knowing that your overrated and don't deserve some of the things your program has gotten because of your espn contract. I am just wondering please respond!! I am very eager to hear what you have to say!!

yup...it is rude, and you probably should have stopped right after, "where I am from we don't have any SEC fans." and just let it go from there, because from that point on you statrted sounding like one of the Ohio State Bucknuts.

There are very, very few B1G folks here in the south, consequently the few chances us "cheating" SEC fans get to intermingle with some B1G fans are during bowl season and on message boards. As for me, I have found the people here on Huskerboards to be genuine, polite welcoming, and knowledgeable football fans that I would endear to my tailgate to share a bourbon. But you have proven the point sir, that all bad apples do not spoil the whole bunch; if you had half the class or genrosity that most of the people here on Huskerbaord have, you might be welcome to share my drink as well, however, your unmitigated arrogance would leave you thirsty. As far as the SEC cheating, I would say that sounds more like sour grapes than anythig else. You referred to my beloved Georgia, as being a class below, but also said, "with no disrespect." but that is exactly what you have said and it was with disrespect. I will not atone for your lack of manners, because as a gentleman, I will show some respect for my host here at HB, but even as a guest, I can ask that perhaps my gracious host will tie up their dog, for you sir, are a class below what I have come to know as a very generous, welcoming, and proud Husker Nation.

  5. McDawg, you forgot one important thing. BigXII refs assigned to Gator Bowl and Greg Burk's crew will be in charge.

    Bo and Greg are buddies!

    LINKY: I give up :frenchy

thank god!! I thought it might be a Penn Wagers crew!

there are more if you like. google "Penn Wagers UGA"

Penn Wagers, with the help of pharmaceuticals, maintains a 9 month erection for the times he can call a UGA game. He is perhaps the most inept, artless, clumsy, cumbersome, incapable, ineficent, disorganized, incompetent, bumbling, arrogant, self serving, unqualified, unskilled, non-visual, out of position, hating, lowlife, sack of monkey dung to ever attempt to officiate a college football game. He is not very well liked in Athens, Georgia. Or anywhere in the state for that matter.

  6. Where does UGA football fall in the Georgia sports scene? If I was guessing I would rank them Falcons, Braves, UGA Football then Hawks.

Where does UGA football fall in the Georgia sports scene? If I was guessing I would rank them Falcons, Braves, UGA Football then Hawks.

Braves, UGA Football.......Falcons, Hawks....................................................................................................................................................Georgia Tech Football

Close... UGA football easily #1, Braves #2, Falcons #3, Auburn FB #4, Bama FB #5, UGA gymnastics #6, GT Basketball #7, UGA equestrian #8, Hawks #9, GT FB #10... :wasted

YUP....easily #1 UGA football...then geographically it switches the number 2 around some....the Barn, Tennessee, Florida, Bama and then the Falcons/Braves ( whoever is having a decent year) bt to be honest, the Hawks and the North Avenue Trade School are both hardly on the map. I would say high school football is more popular than the Hawks or the NATS!

oh and...I have been to Nebraska....and I freaking liked it....especially western Nebraska. The eastern part of the state was......well, you might say flat.

  7. after the #7, Conner, and the OBC is gone, then it's back to 3-9 and some normalcy for the c$%ks.

But Conner Shaw has been a freakin stud for y'all for sure. Personally, I think if y'all ain't got Shaw, the c$%ks are barely over .500....he was as tough a QB as anyone will ever see.....Georgia boy IIRC, from Gwinett county(?)

Same thing was said about Garcia, same thing was said about Latt, about Jeffrey and so on and so on. It's old hat. The only point you may be right on is tOBC but the rest is bunk. Lumping everything on Shaw's shoulders is a cop out, he's a great player and a fighter for sure but to say that it's all him is a joke, he, on his own, only won one game this year and that was Mizzou. Show me five extra games USC would have lost had Shaw not played.

People seem to forget that Dylan Thompson has beat Clemson, he's beat Michigan and he's been in the system for three years...or that Davis is already on track to have a stronger career at USC than Lattimore did.

Georgia fans just like talking smack without any perspective which is fine. I can say confidently that you'll never win the SEC with Richt and that's a far worse issue considering the talent UGA has at its disposal. How many QBs with Georgia connections are going to win big at other schools? Just in the past five years we've had Mett, Marshall, Cam and Shaw. BTW, Shaw is from Hall County and Davis is from Lithonia. Neither seriously considered Georgia, it was a battle between UF and USC for both...right in the shadow of Athens...ouch.

HMMM....lemme see.....???? South Carolina SECCG appearances since-FOREVER.... 1....and they are 0-1...UGA SECCG appearances since 02'...5 with a 2-5 record. I can say confidently that South Carolina has never won the SEC at all, while UGA has been five times and won twice.... I'm not sure South Carolina could get to Atlanta with a map, flashlight, GPS and a homing pigeon.

Connor Shaw offers from GA...0....we already had Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray, so we did not really need him...we signed Christian Lemay that year (bust)

Yep, offered Mike Davis, but he may have seen Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley crowding him some, because everybody in the south knew we needed RB's (all we had was a fairly quick thug with no character) and they were both the kind of character athletes that were going to play/start early....

I CAN SAY CONFIDENTLY that South Carlolina lost to UGA 41-30.

You'll see him in the backfield, and you'll think "Oh, they've got a white half-back in the backfield, he must be a good blocker, this is going to be a pass play".

    sw50sw8sw578.gif

This is funny, because it seems he expects us to overlook a running back because he is white. Kinda how they overlooked our white running back of the past 4 years, which promptly gained 150 yards and made your all world defense of last year rather silly at times.

Yup he did do that, and he was/is a stud for sure. I'd love to have had him at UGA!....but you are forgetting one minor detail....we promptly hung 45 on your azz.

look, I don't like talking trash. period. I don't as a rule, but don't pick on me for no reason. I'm just here to have a good time and talk some football. the thing to remember, is your team is only as good as their last game....and my teams last game with the Gamecocks, didn't turn out too good for them ( historically they are on the losing end anyway) and the last game with Nebraska did not end too good for NU either....and it you happen to be a Wisky fan...YOU'RE 0-2....with the Great Dayne losing one of those...and oh yeah...he was sure fun to watch. what did he have in college? something like 50,000 yards? ...*googles Ron Dayne* NCAA Record* 7125 yards. wow.

I'm just looking forward to some old fashioned smash mouth fooseball with the Huskers again this year. I ahave always liked the Huskers, and loved Osborne!! I always likened Richt to him some because Richt kind of has that cool sideline demeanor.

  8. Pretty good read. Seems fair and balanced. I read this site a lot and they are usually even keeled. The replies are very "Nebraska-esque"

    http://bulldawgillus...r-bowl-preview/

With the 2013 regular season in the books, the Dawgs may consider themselves lucky to have finished with what could be considered a respectable 8-4 record. This team has suffered more major injuries to key players than any team in recent memory, but the Gator Bowl still came calling, and Georgia fans will fortunately get the chance to watch their beloved team play in a New Year’s Day bowl game. The bowl appearance will mark the 17th consecutive for the program; the longest active streak in the SEC. The opponent lined up is no stranger, as Nebraska will play opposite the boys donning Red and Black for the second consecutive season, last year resulting in a win for the Dawgs over at the Capital One Bowl. And with this year’s game being played in Jacksonville, many have dreams and ideas of spending their holidays with their loved ones and fellow Dawg fans in a fashion very similar to the annual Georgia-Florida game, taking over the south Georgia islands in what should be a great getaway!

    Know the opponent:

This Nebraska team (also 8-4) will be very similar to the one the Dawgs saw last New Year’s Day, only minus their dual threat quarterback Taylor Martinez, who was lost earlier this season to a foot injury. This will make the Cornhuskers rely heavily on their run game, which they have been doing all season. The rushing attacking will be lead by junior Ameer Abdullah, who has carried the ball 254 times for 1,568 yards this season, leading the Big Ten by over 100 yards. Filling in for the fallen Martinez at quarterback will be senior Ron Kellogg III, who has played every game this season, but has only seen his load pick up late in the season. On defense, the Cornhuskers are stubborn, only giving up 20 points per game, and have held several teams below their average this season.

    The Offense:

With Aaron Murray out with a torn ACL, junior quarterback Hutson Mason looked very solid once he settled down in his only start against Georgia Tech a few weeks back. The bowl practice and game should be very valuable experience for what is assumed to be Mason’s starting job going into next season. Mike Bobo should open the playbook a little and allow him to gain as much game action experience as possible to wrap up the season. Also during the win over the Yellow Jackets, running back Todd Gurley proved that he is fully healthy again, taking over the overtime sessions and showing how good he can be, especially when counted on. Gurley should get his fair share of action in Jacksonville, and will likely head into the 2014 season as a legitimate Heisman watch list candidate.

    The Defense:

The defense will be tested big time on their ability to stop the run, which has been their only strength of the 2013 season. Without a quarterback who can run, Nebraska will lean heavily on their running back star in Abdullah, and test the UGA linebackers al day long. With a backup quarterback taking all the snaps, the UGA secondary should not have to worry about getting picked on all day, but instead can perhaps cheat and help out with the task of containing the run game. Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham would love nothing more than to hold Nebraska to very little offensive success before he enters the offseason having to pitch to the fanbase that his unit will improve some going into next season.

    How the Dawgs will win:

The theme of this answer lately has been Todd Gurley. And that will not change on New Year’s Day, as Gurley is playing perhaps the strongest he has since he arrived in Athens. With Hutson Mason still settling in at QB, the game plan should rely heavily on the run, hopefully opening up some receivers as the game progresses. But as long as Gurley is healthy and wearing pads, he will be the reason the Dawgs will not only find success, but also look good doing it. Safe travels to all those in Dawg Nation fortunate enough to make the trip, and just keep in mind while many are complaining about the matchup, that we could be Florida or Tennessee, and not be playing in a bowl at all.

"Gurley left, Gurley right, Gurley middle, Mason to Bennett, Mason to Conley, Douglas left, Douglas right, Mason to Wooten, Mason to Lynch, rinse repeat...that is the offense....

The defense? Huskers 3rd and 9...first down Huskers....Huskers 3rd and 7...first down Huskers....rinse repeat. But since we kind of sort of have a run defense AND maybe Nebraska really does only have a run game, then CTG can put together a stop every now and then....God knows "Laktose Pass Intolerant" can't. "Edit (in 2 minutes)

  9. depends on whose research you are using...

Perhaps most noteworthy, the states with the most players per capita are: Louisiana (1 NFL player per 73,119 people), South Carolina (1 per 85,655), Mississippi (1 per 92,728), Alabama (1 per 99,578), Florida (1 per 101,082), Georgia (1 per 101,975) and Montana (1 per 109,935).

Hellz yeah, we need to start tapping that Montana pipeline!

THIS^^^^^ is one of the very reasons that I will someday move to Nebraska!

  10. I don't watch pro ball much, but I love college ball and another thread got me to thinking ( always a bad thing and some people feel it is not healthy for me)

Where do major college football players originate from. Well, according to this report, it seems to be no real secret. The real surprise is how the per capita numbers in the first skew the number so much from the total numbers in the second list. Texas may have he numbers, but they really have not had to overall talent in the last 5 years.

Per Capita Production of FBS Recruits by State (2008-2013) Rate per 100K Rank vs. US Avg US Average 0.75

    Louisiana 1.83 1 2.44x

    Alabama 1.75 2 2.33x

    Florida 1.69 3 2.25x

    Georgia 1.62 4 2.16x

    Hawaii 1.54 5 2.05x

    District of Columbia 1.43 6 1.90x

    Mississippi 1.42 7 1.89x

    Texas 1.41 8 1.88x

  13. Hutson Mason QB held a few state passing records in Georgia but wasn't highly recruited because his offense at Lassiter High School was a HUNH and UGA only offered him at the last minute. There were questions about his long ball.

At UGA, he's always been the guy in the headset between Murray and the booth. He is a 5th year senior who knows the offense inside and out. He's been the official backup the whole time he's been here, and repping with the first team at every practice. He's had some cleanup duty in garbage time over the years, but just got his first start in the last game of the season vs instate rival Georgia Tech (Murray tore ACL the week before).

Down 20-0, he led the Dawgs back into the game to win in 2nd overtime.

The difference between Mason and Murray is that Mason plays faster. Murray had the maturity and experience to let the plays develop, checking the long ball first before checking through the rest of the routes and reading the coverage. Murray was also an effective scrambler. Mason likes to get rid of the ball in a hurry. He wants to dink and dunk you all the way down the field. An offensive lineman told the newspaper recently they always have to tell him to slow down in practice because he's now now now. One of his weaknesses is the play-action run. As soon as he hands the ball off and takes two steps, he stops to turn around and watch the play and doesn't follow through with the fake. I assure you they are working on that in the film room because it defeats the whole purpose of the play action run. His critics say he doesn't have the long ball, but he through for several long completions in that game. One game doesn't make or break a quarterback, so only time will tell if he'll be successful against Nebraska, and looking forward to next year, the SEC.

Georgia's defense is a base 3-4 but plays in nickel most of the time. We only returned 3 starters from last year's defense. Garrison Smith (DE), Amarlo Herrera (ILB), Damien Swann (DB).

The two players you'll see most on the defensive line are Garrison Smith and Ray Drew. They all rotate but Smith and Drew are almost always in there. The difference is new DL coach Chris Wilson (former Miss St DC). Instead of trying to put together a defensive line based on prototypes, he put the 3 most disruptive guys up on the line as the starters. Garrison Smith is barely 300 but is the nose guard in a 3-4 in the SEC, if that gives you any indication of the new DL philosophy. It's been working. The whole front 7 of the defense are great. UGA is in the top 5 in the sec in sacks, hurries, rush yards against, and pass yards against (no thanks to our secondary, but I don't want to get ahead of myself).

Georgia's linebackers are all stout. Ramik Wilson (ILB) leads the SEC in tackles and was named 1st team All SEC this week. Leonard Floyd (OLB, true freshman) was named to the SEC All Freshman team and leads the team in sacks. Jordan Jenkins (OLB) was the 5 star recruit from 2 years ago that was supposed to replace Jarvis Jones, but you don't simply replace Jarvis Jones. Jordan Jenkins has played well at weak side OLB although the stats don't show it. Unlike most weak side ends who go after the qb on every play, JJ actually contains his edge.

Georgia's secondary is a dumpster fire. That's all I have to say about that.

Here's a pic of Leonard Floyd and Zach Mettenberger being introduced to each other.

    LSU2013hipple72016.jpg

Interesting (to me) side note about the above picture with Floyd over the LSU QB, the guy wearing #47 is Ray Drew, "The Paster of Disaster".... super turbo Christian kid, was a 5 star recruit 3 years ago and refers to himself as a "crock-pot" player, sitting on the bench for years getting better and better with time, just now starting... and is also a huge country music fan and doesn't listen to rap.... plays acoustic guitar.

Another personal side note.... receiver Chris Conley in the one handed catch gig in post #1 is a geek... organized a Star Wars student movie viewing last week on campus... and at the risk of sounding racist, speaks very well.... makes James Earl Jones sound like James Brown. Future broadcaster for sure.... http://www.georgiado.../100113aab.html

    AND .....he eats squirrel.

From an outsider looking in perspective on the UGA team, they're just another 8-4 team. Their tied in record with Vanderbilt, but Vandy won the head to head matchup b/w the two. Their defense is hot garbage. Their DC has been in a decline for the 3rd straight year and doesn't have the personnel to run a great 3-4 defense this season. Their pass defense is the weakest part of their team.

Their starting QB is out for the season so they are brining in a guy who started against Ga Tech (7-5). He went 22-36 against them for under 300 yards, 2 TD's, 1 INT, a 57.6 QBR, and less than a 1 yard per carry rushing avg. He's all kinds of meh.

Then they have a RB who could get hurt at any moment, like he's done all season and miss game time. When the guy is on, he's on, but his toughness is a big question mark. They have some backups at RB that can play.

There are 2 WR's, Conley and Bennett, but I never know if they're playing or not, b/c their busted up every other game it seems, and does it really matter, b/c Aaron Murray isn't throwing to them?

The TE Lynch is good, but the 5 Star recruit Jay Rome has been a non-factor for most of his career at UGA.

They have a good kicker though.

However, their coaching overall is below avg. If you look at their recruiting classes the past 8 years, (usually Top 10) you really gotta wonder why it's so rare that they actually end up ranked in the Top10 end of season rankings.

hey cockinear....41-30....and you will always be Carolina, and even after a few halfway decent years with SOS, Carolina is still down in the series 47-17....ahh!! Cola East!! the screen door to hell.
