  1. I think the argument against the rule change is the subjectivity of the call vs. the severity of the penalty. With the current 15 yd PF, refs are already changing the course of the game, sometimes with questionable calls. Same questionable refs and calls, now with enhanced impact on the game, (and possibly the next).
  2. You are right, winning will solve that. With the new divisional alignment, we can beat Wiscy every Black Friday to wrap up the West, then on to the CCG to knock off tOSU/Michigan. Now there is a season to look forward to each year.
  3. Years ago I regarded the Big 10 as big, dumb, and slow. I laughed when they beat each other up and knocked each other out of the top 10. Two years later I have a different appreciation for the brutality of a B1G schedule. I'm sure in time i will learn to root for the B1G in Non-conf and bowl games, just as I did in the Big12. Also fairly sure I will eventually hate tOSU as much as I still hate Texas. FWIW, with pending divisional realignment, I also think Wisconsin would be a better Black Friday game.
  4. The more I think about this, the less it concerns me. The teams currently "winning" the recruiting war and already signing the "top" recruits can still only sign 25 each year on average, it's not like they are now going to be able to sign 40. Nebraska already out-spends the rest of the B1G on recruiting. So any doubts that we can afford to or will do whatever is necessary to make this an advantage? No. In the long run, it probably helps the coaches as maybe they can now focus more on coaching, and hire additional staff to do the planning/organizing/administrative/texting/tweeting/emailing/fatheads/etc.
  5. No way that this doesn't end up hurting the Huskers, the ref's already have their minds made up they need to throw PI flags on us... Now this!!!! Kenny Bell could have been ejected for what was a completely legal hit. Maybe in 2014 they can institute the "illegal tackling of the ballcarrier" rule.
  6. I think I read somewhere that the new recruiting coordinator (and staff) would only be able to set up official visits, and interact with recruits while on campus. It appears that it just removes the coordination, communication, scouting, and other time consuming stuff off the coach. (Oh, all that plus it creates the new (multiple) position(s) of Graduate Assistant in Charge of Tweets. LOL.) In-home visits would still need to be done by coaching staff. If that is true, then maybe not a whole lot changes when it comes to getting a kid to commit and sign, because building the bond with the recruit and getting the LOI signed still falls to the position coach, and the rest of the coaches and HC. So while a big name might help in getting recruits on campus, proven connection to the HS and JC coaching ranks might be more important.
