I'd honest;y have no issue with Bohl. He appears to have had great success being the CEO as opposed to just the DC...

Mullen had done a decent job at Miss St.  not a great record against ranked opponents, but neither have we.  He is also going against the likes of Bama, Auburn, UGA etc....

Jeff Monken from Army as well, if you're going the service academy route.

  2. The key is that this really is a transition year and while some may look optimistically on what will happen with more appropriate pieces in place on offense, nothing is proven and the numbers aren't forgiving. The article summarizes it very well in the following:

It’s easy to see why projections would be skeptical, but it’s also easy to see potential. The Huskers will likely start either 4-1 or 5-0 before welcoming Wisconsin — a team they nearly beat last year — to town. Momentum could drive a great year, or it could set up another “great start, mediocre finish” story like last year’s (and 2014’s, 2012’s, 2011’s, etc.).

With almost no projected senior starters on offense and few outside of the secondary on defense, this could be when the seeds of success are sown. Or it could be the year that gets Riley on the top of Hot Seat lists heading into 2018. I have no idea.

  3. Advanced stats people were not too enthused with the hire, Dave Bartoo (who is from up in the area) and associates on Twitter seem to think he coaches below talent a bit, and doesn't recruit particularly well.

Slow starter as well, which may bode well for next year's game.

Look up @CFBMatrix on twitter and check the Tweets with replies for more detail.

  4. Hm. May be something with my system, but I'm getting weirdness in firefox now as well. I think its the same behavior, but FF handles it differently in that it displays the page code versus downloading it, like happens in Chrome. In any event, here is what I get when I click on a red folder in FF:

    aLLZ5he.png

Refreshing the page applies the styles and everything displays normally.

I will try and do some troubleshooting with web console in FF and let you know what I find.

  5. I can't find Brad Simpson on the roster on Huskermax. Any idea who he is? I"m assuming a walk-on.

    2016 Outlook

Brad Simpson heads into his senior season in 2016 hoping to continue in his role on the Huskers' special teams, while contending for additional playing time at linebacker. The 6-0, 230-pound Simpson has been one of Nebraska's top coverage men and special teams tacklers the past two seasons. He also has the versatility to play multiple linebacker positions, a position group that returns intact for the 2016 season.

Simpson originally joined the program as a walk-on from Ralston High School.

    2015 (Junior)

Simpson played in all 13 games as a regular on the Huskers' special teams units. He made four tackles, all on special teams. Simpson also provided depth at linebacker.

    2014 (Sophomore)

Simpson played in 10 games, primarily on special teams. He made five tackles, all on special teams, including a career-high three stops in the Holiday Bowl against USC, and one each against Fresno State and Purdue.

    2013 (Redshirt Freshman)

Simpson saw action in four games on special teams in 2013, but did not have a tackle.

    2012 (Redshirt)

Simpson redshirted in his first season in 2012, and worked on the scout team.

    Before Nebraska (Ralston HS)

Simpson shined on both sides of the football for Ralston High School, leading the Rams to the second round of the Nebraska Class B state playoffs and an 8-3 overall record in 2011. Simpson tallied 98 tackles, including 65 solo stops, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries for Coach Tyler Zahn, a former Husker linebacker. Simpson was named to the Class B all-state team by the Lincoln Journal Star and the Omaha World-Herald as a senior.

Simpson also led the Ralston offense at quarterback, finishing with 802 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns, while throwing for 881 yards and seven scores. On special teams, Simpson averaged more than 34 yards a punt and had a long of 57 yards. At the 2012 Nebraska Shrine Bowl, Simpson was named the game’s defensive MVP after recording a sack and intercepting a pass that he returned 21 yards for a touchdown.

Simpson chose to walk on at NU over scholarship offers from both Central Missouri and Nebraska-Kearney.

    Personal

The son of Dan and Carrie Simpson, Brad was born on Oct. 24, 1993. He is a communication studies major. He earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2014. Simpson has volunteered his time with the Community Action partnership and team hospital visits.

    Simpson's Career Statistics
    » Games Played – 27 (4 in 2013; 10 in 2014; 13 in 2015)

    » Tackles – 7 UT, 2 AT, 9 TT; 4 UT, 1 AT, 5 TT in 2014; 3 UT, 1 AT, 4 TT in 2015

  6. A tidbit on recruiting from an older LJS story:

    http://journalstar.com/sports/local/football/leaving-football-never-an-option-for-parrella/article_be601aca-ce73-52c6-8e69-19d853a172e3.html

(Parrella) recruits in Michigan, Wisconsin, New Jersey and California.

“You try to get the point across that you can play football, but we’re going to make sure you learn to learn in school, learn to grow as a man and be prepared for life after college,” Parrella said. “I had great coaches. Charlie McBride is the closest thing to my dad. Milt Tenopir is one of the people who taught me a lot. I call Charlie whenever I have a question and I spend time with Mike Waufle, the defensive line coach with the St. Louis Rams, studying the new techniques and the changes in the game.

  7. I think he was moved off field as a coach, from the bio...

2012 when Bill OBrien took over as head coach, Robinson became Penn States director of player development and NFL liaison. In that role he would organize scouting visits, orchestrate Pro Day, develop community service initiatives and serve as the football teams liaison with admissions, compliance, housing, and academics.

  8. Elijah Robinson

    http://owlsports.com/staff.aspx?staff=532

Elijah Robinson begins his third season as defensive line coach for the Temple Owls. In 2016, he added the responsibility of Defensive Run Game Coordinator.

Robinson’s impact on the defensive line has been apparent and immediate. During the 2015 season, the Owls recorded 33 sacks, including a season-high 10 in the win against Penn State. Robinson once again saw his players recognized, as DT Matt Ioannidis and DE Nate D. Smith were named first-team All-Conference. Smith led the team with 7.0 sacks for 47 yards, while Ioannidis ranked in the top three for TFLs with 10.5.

In the first four games of the 2014 season, four touchdowns were scored by the defensive line. The team had nine sacks and 21 tackles for loss.

By season’s end, Ioannidis and DE Praise Martin-Oguike were making every All-Conference list. Ioannidis notched 47 tackles and a team-leading 11.0 TFLs while Martin-Oguike’s 7.5 sacks were the most by an Owl since 2010.

Robinson, a Camden, NJ, native, came home to Philadelphia after spending the previous ten seasons with Penn State.

The former Nittany Lion defensive tackle transitioned into coaching when his playing career was cut short after suffering a neck injury during spring practice in 2007. Robinson graduated from Penn State in 2008 and joined the PSU staff as a graduate assistant coach one year later.

His primary responsibilities were assisting Larry Johnson in coaching the defensive line and preparing the offensive scout team from 2009. In 2011 he was promoted to a full time coaching position. Then in 2012 when Bill O’Brien took over as head coach, Robinson became Penn State’s director of player development and NFL liaison. In that role he would organize scouting visits, orchestrate Pro Day, develop community service initiatives and serve as the football team’s liaison with admissions, compliance, housing, and academics.

Robinson earned All-State and All-South Jersey honors at Woodrow Wilson High School, leading the team to a 15-0 record and a state championship in 2002.

  9. While we're waiting for the 48 hour window to pass, here is one of the commonly linked names that looks to be off the table"

Arizona State: UNLV defensive line coach Joe Seumalo will join the Arizona State staff in the same role, according to Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans. Seumalo spent one season at UNLV after nine seasons at (Oregon) State.

  10.

I looked at three mock drafts just now (SI; cbssports; nfl.com), and none have Maliek listed. What gives?

Walter Camp lists him as the #12 DT in the draft. I'm surprised to see him projected that low.

I think Collins will do well in the interviews and the workouts, and will creep up the board. D-line is a deep position in this draft, but the Broncos showed what a strong D-line can do to offenses, so I expect a lot of teams to focus on D-line in the draft.

Given the depth of D-line this year, I'm going to predict right now that Valentine will regret leaving UNL early. I know, I know. His family needs $$ right now. But leaving school early without a degree, and little chance of making an NFL roster, just isn't the way to go. Sure wish he would have stuck around another year.

Valentine got his degree in December. That's the main reason he left.

Having his degree or Hughes as a coach the main reason?

  11. Just for context:

    Dwayne Johnson OT 3* .8363
Chongo Kondolo (JC) OT 3* .8167
