  1. Basically, based on the rationale of these Bo-backers, Bo could go 0-12 and they'd still want to keep him, simply because they don't want change.

I'm a Pelini backer, but your post is way too simplistic. I don't want change because Pelini is performing in the W/L column and is doing the things personnel wise to take us to the next level. There are some posts about us being a laughing stock in the national media because of the blowouts on the scoreboard. We were a laughing stock ten years ago because of the coaching change with where our program was. Those with decision making ability are well aware of that.

Performing in the W/L column? When you list the teams directly under the W's and L's, it becomes scary at just how bad this staff is. Antone that listened to Pelini @ half and his Presser and still want him as a coach................. wow

  2. We're obviously not going to get any better with him as our HC so its time to move on. Bunch of you dummies kept defending him for reasons I cant explain, its time to cut ties and try something new because this is obviously not working.

We've been doing that every 6 years since Osborne's retirement. How's that working for us?

Quit letting Osborne pick bad coaches?

  3. Why aren't we running between the tackles at all?

My question is why haven't we run any zone read?

I think this is best answered by saying Martinez is not healthy. I don't care what the coaches say he does not look healthy at all

Yeah right, he looks exactly like he has for years now. In all fairness our coaching staff looks like they have for years now as well. Minnesota looks impressive on both sides of the ball and they're not

  4. Lets not have this turn into a fire Bo thread. I just thought it would be good to remind people of the good things that have happened under Coach Pelini's regime.

-Ohio State Comeback/Biggest Point Margin comeback in NU history

-Upholds Zach Darlington's scholarship regardless of his playing future

    -Excellent GPA and Graduation Rate

-Strict no nonsense off field drama: Ernest Suttles, Quentin Castille etc.

-Nick Pasquale tribute decal and gold/blue baloons for UCLA game

-Shows he can have a good relationship with team: Harlem Shake video, Cell Phone prank etc.

-Penn State pre-game prayer in aftermath of Sandusky scandal and JoePa firing

-Jack Hoffman Spring Game Touchdown and resulting.ESPY Award for Jack

Was Bo the mastermind behind all of these, perhaps not. But it all happened under his watch. Lets try to remember these things when you feel he is being to agressive on the sideline.

Please share what Ive left out.

I do not want to make this thread an anti-Pelini thing... but I must correct one of your points..

you put excellent GPA and graduation rate... not so. Under Pelini the graduation rates have plummeted. NU is 9th in the conference in graduation rate and have fallen precipitously with time. NU is nowhere near as good academically for football players as was the case when Bo arrived.

Don't bother these guys with facts, the fact is we have played a gawd awful schedule under Pelini so the positives are few and far between

  5. I think that immediately we need to remove the long-passing game from the Tommy Armstrong playbook. Wait until he proves he can hit those targets consistently before we turn him loose again. Ohio State did it with Braxton Miller his first year.

Why didn't we see more Option with Tommy? The kid just seems to get Option football. But no, let's turn him into Joe Friggin' Montana out there. Beck's decisions leave me scratching my head. A lot.

This. Armstrong is capable of being a good passer. His HS tape shows that he has the skills. Today was a bad game throwing the ball, but most people agree that he'll get there as a passer. Now, until he does, why are we going all pass happy when TA runs the crap out of the option and when we're pounding the ball when (there were only glimpses of this unfortunately) we weren't stuck in predictable play calling? When Purdue didn't know what was coming, they were getting mauled and run over. When they knew we were going to do a toss off tackle, they shut it down. The play calling really contributed to much of the struggles on offense today. That said, we scored 40+. Not a bad day, but it really should've been a lot smoother than it was. Put Armstrong in too many spots to throw deep when high percentage passes would've been the way to go. I know he missed on a few short passes too, but they're called "high percentage" for a reason. He'll hit them more often than not. Then that can open up the field. Not making excuses for poor throws, as Beck isn't out there throwing the football, but the playcalling was suspect at times. Perhaps had this game been called differently, Armstrong would've had a better day and nobody (a bit much to hope for but at least not many) would be losing their sh#t on the board.

What other game should he be working on his passing, a close nail biter? You learn from your mistakes and it's obvious Purdue is terrible and barely better than a HS team. This is exactly the game we want TA working on his Joe Montana

  6. NU wants no part of either Stanford or Oregon... those would both be really, really ugly

Same thing everyone said about Georgia last year. I'm not saying we would win, but I garuantee it would be a good game.

Georgia wanted no part of that matchup, they were sleep walking the first 3 quarters. The matchup I want to see is Nebraska vs. A&M ..........lets see what a defensive guru has for Johnny Football

I don't understand the sleep walking argument. This is D1 football, not hs.

Yep you would think it was more on a HS level but I remember Nebraska beating Washington then turning around and losing to Washington in a bowl and was told by the tradition coalition it was because Nebraska didn't want that matchup. Sort of like Wisconsin last year, beat them early and then came CCG which appeared one of the teams didn't want to be there.

It's funny but in most sports, you play up to, or down to your competition. Georgia probably wasn't real happy being 1 play from a title game to playing in a Capital One Bowl in front of 59k

  7. NU wants no part of either Stanford or Oregon... those would both be really, really ugly

Same thing everyone said about Georgia last year. I'm not saying we would win, but I garuantee it would be a good game.

  8. No TV exposure? Every game is on TV. Half filled stadium? It seats over 90,000 this year. It pains me to say this, but I think you're an ignorant fan.

I think what he means is no Prime time exposure so the kids ( recruits ) on the west coast are watching and I think his half filled comment comes from probably from attending games back when 60K where stuffed in there like sardines and there was no wiggle room what so ever. Now the sweeping shots of the stadium most certainly empty out the higher you get and it appears people are very comfortable with lots of arm room. Watching in HD on a 12' screen it looked to me like there was all sort of empty seats
  9. I do feel bad that you guys entered the league at its lowest point in a long, long time. The trifecta of the Rich Rod fiasco, Tatgate fiasco, and Sandusky fiasco took the wind out of the league's top three programs simultaneously.

Now if B10 states would start 1) keeping its best FB recruits at a better rate, 2) keep its best BB recruits at a MUCH better rate, 3) do more to promote spring football in HS, 4) open the pocket books for top coaches... I think the B10 is set to be, at the least, the 2cd best football conference and 1st/2cd best basketball conference. Who knows if it will happen though. Seems like tons of Illinois and Ohio kids are heading to the SEC and elsewhere outside the B10 this year in football. Meanwhile, 5 of the top 11 2014 basketball recruits are from B10 territory and it's likely that none will sign with a B10 team. That hurts.

If Tatgate hurt tOSU you really think Urban Meyer would be there and miles ahead of every other B1G program, so they don't get to play in the title game a couple years but they haven't skipped a beat and will remain an annual top 5 team. I'm pretty sure tOSU fans/administration are licking their chops at where they stand in the future big picture

  10. Agree, tOSU is really the only one in this conference that will sniff the top 5 or National Championship in the foreseeable future and because they play in a weak conference the chances they will get decimated in a BCS National Championship Game is pretty good. This has been the case for a long while except for Tressels tOSU over a decade ago now. Even Carrs 97 Championship had an * and we all know what that outcome would have been had #1 and #2 met. Add in PSUs * in 1994 and basically you have one team in decades that can clearly state they were in the national elite, 2002 tOSU. The Big 10 has always been looked at as bowl time losers. Being a 50 year Husker fan I can relate to being exposed come bowl time except instead of a single team, the B1G is an entire conference of not being able to hang with the "Big Boys" of College Football. We are now in the middle of this and puts an exclamation point on just how far we have fallen and how irrelevant we now are. Last years CCG was pretty much proof of just how far we are from the National Powerhouses and the recruits / coaching that come with that territory. Urban can give some legitimacy to the conference but other than that......weak sauce

Hilarious, where have you been the last decade, I've seen dozens of crapfest losses as well as dozens of beyond sh**ty defensive/offensive performances and now we are in a conference thats always exposed come bowl time. Life is good! Everybody cheer up!

    naked-gun-facepalm.gif

Exactly! Thats exactly how I feel every time I watch a Pelini coached product and then watch Texas A&M and Missou sitting down in a real conference while we're stuck in the lowly B1G
  11. Wisky is trying to take our position as the fourth best.

Since when is NU fourth in the B1G pecking order and UW on the outside? History doesn't mean a dang thing in this conference as Illinois and Minnesota prove. Recently it's been OSU and UW at the top. Need I bring up who won the conference last year? Or the year before that? Or the year before that? Wisconsin did.

The average recruit is what? 16/17 years old? He doesn't remember NU being a power and he'll see plenty of schools with dusty trophies in the case.

If anything NU is trying to take UW's position.

Agree and throw Whisky in the SEC and let them fight amongst the bottom dwellers there or maybe the PAC 12 and let them scurry around with the Beavers & Cougars for lower mid level of conference and they put a whooping on us in the CCG at barely .500

    Love the B1G whoopee!

  12. One thing that this defense needs is a player maker at safety. CJax fits that role pretty well
    .

Desperately. I thought HJ was really gonna be that guy. Not that he is isn't. He still has a shot, but so far not a lot of production. I've liked CJ ever since we recruited him. He just seems like a well rounded football player. He's skilled in almost all aspects. Especially the tackling aspect, which........ya you know.

Bo was quoted as saying CJ just isn't getting it all mentally yet.....then if course I caught sh#t for repeating what the coach said. Regardless, it looks to me like we have plenty of guys playing who aren't getting it all mentally, so damnit get this kid in there for a bit.

Maybe this is a good thing given how bad this scheme is :)

I'm trying not to go there, considering I'm such a "horrible person" for not liking Bo's approach to defense, or his scheme. But yea, everybody knows how I feel about that.

Why would you be a horrible person for seeing how terrible a Pelini defense is when it doesn't have players named Dorsey and Suh involved. Blow out after blowout and crapping the bed on your home field annually would have me believe anyone that thinks Pelini knows defense/talent might be on mind altering drugs

  13. Jeebus. Lose one game. One frickin game and a couple defensive sh**ty performances and we start questioning literally EVERYTHING. Holy cow, let me guess. Next we're gonna question the reality of Chimney Rock and sweet corn.

Hilarious, where have you been the last decade, I've seen dozens of crapfest losses as well as dozens of beyond sh**ty defensive/offensive performances and now we are in a conference thats always exposed come bowl time. Life is good! Everybody cheer up!

  14. I hate the Big 10. Sorry, but a lot of it is really lame.

Start with the idea that the Big 12 hated Nebraska or that Texas and Oklahoma got all the pub and the glory. I just don't see that argument at all. I was quite happy as a Husker fan. And I didn't see anything happening to Nebraska that the Huskers weren't doing to themselves. Nebraska was seen as one of th etop three in the league based on its historic significance to the league alongside Oklahoma and Texas. We were thought of as being the only team of significance in the North Division. The other North teams had their moments, but it we were always seen as the top team, even if we seemed to be "hibernating" at different points.

Nebraska is not seen as one of the Big 3 in the Big 10. We are fourth and with current results, dropping FAST. Ohio State is the King. Michigan is second. Penn State is seen by many as "hibernating" and Wisky is trying to take our position as the fourth best, along with Northwestern, which will definately be the favorite to beat Nebraska in Lincoln this year. Think about that for a while. Nebraska's tradition and historic significance can't be honored in this new league and even when they try to honor Nebraska in those ways, it comes off weird. Tom Osborne is not an iconic Big 10 coach. I am wondering how many Penn State and Michigan fans flip off their TV sets when TO appears on the talk box. Plenty is my guess. After all, Michigan fans believe they would have beat Frost and Penn State fans are under the dilusion that they could have beaten Tommy and Brook.

We have non-drivable games filling up the slate. That sucks too.

Maybe this all comes down to the fact that my team isn't winning right now. And I am sure that sentence will be bolded in someone's response post. But overall, I have no connection or care for the Big 10. I want the Huskers to win, but I don't feel like Illinois this week is all that exciting. And I can't say that I am looking forward to Nebraska going to Michigan's place more than I would have been if we were headed down to Norman to face the Sooners.

  15. He resigned didn't he. Quite frankly I don't see anything wrong at all with what Tressel did, I went through all the gangsta crap of the 90s here and a couple tattoo's seem rather innocent compared to that. For those worried Treesel brings sanctions in reality he brings this .....he was given a five-year show-cause penalty (until December 19, 2016). If he gets another head coaching job before then, he will have to sit out the first five games of the first regular season of his return, as well as any postseason games (including conference championship games and bowl games
Being forced to resign is the PC way of saying you're fired. But you can think of it anyway you want. And to the bolded part, you may think he didn't do anything wrong, but he broke the rules and lied about it. And because of it, it cost OSU a possible MNC last year.
What was the dastardly deed Tressel did?
That Jim Tressel sure is a classy guy. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/728291-ohio-state-scandal-part-3-of-5-jim-tressel-should-be-banned-for-5-years http://blog.pennlive.com/davidjones/2011/03/latest_scandal_proves_tressel.html http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1919258 Give all three a good read. Once a cheater, always a cheater. I'm sure you thought all he did was 'lie about a couple tattoos.' Tressel got what he deserved.
Ok I read all three so do I want the Sumlin at A&M to resign? Nope, well unless he wants to come here as head coach. Paterno protected a child raper for decades and the NCAA is lifting sanctions on them, this I find revolting but nothing Tressel did really bother me in the least. Talented kids make millions for their Universities, I feel they should be compensated so you're preaching to the wrong choir. Protecting players who allegedly rape or beat women and DCs raping little boys is a whole different thing IMHO. I tell you what read all 3 pages here and get back to me on what a terrible person Tressel is http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1007153/1/index.htm
  16. None of which are legitamite. Mostly won around in years like 1904. In 1960, they lost 2 games including their bowl game and still count it as a championship Ours were won recently. Oregon's won other big bowl games recently along with national championship appearances.
I wouldn't consider a decade and a half as recent, If you think recruits today see us as relevant in their memory then........well....
  17. Golf buddies? No doubt. Worst...WR corps...EVER. That said, the number of historically abysmal defensive performances is glaring.
Yeah they really lit up UCLA, well, anyone for that matter but they probably have a really mean 9 iron
Are you even a fan? You don't like the coaches, you don't like the players, so why not find another team to cheer for?
Well probably because I started attending Cornhusker games in 1970 and rarely missed a game until 97. I have to find another team to cheer for because the last 3 staffs have been terrible? I have to lay back and make up stuff like we have difficult schedules and ride the excuse train for decades. We have enough people ignoring we are irrelevant these days (decade+) with National Championship schedules and now conference
  18. Couldn't quote your post from my phone. Use bullet points to highlight the specifics that prove your point about our "clown staff" and our "inability to recruit" etc. I want you to give me specifics. Then I'll be more than happy to pick your post apart top to bottom.

Our entire staff is a joke including Dobson, Cotton, Pap, the golf buddies, ex Iowa buddies you name it. Even Crouch noticed our "boys" were tired in the first quarter of an FCS game, you pay attention right? This points directly at recruiting (6th year coach) and strength and conditioning. Who else other than a clown staff can own 11 of the top 20 worst defensive showings in Husker History?

You do realize that golf coach coached up at least three future NFL picks?

You do realize Beck could have been at aTm this past off-season?

JP? Jury is still out. Not giving up on him.

Cotton - it's his fault when we aren't good, not his fault when we are. Which one is it? We were the 8th best rushing team in the nation last season.

I think I addressed all of the staff members you mentioned.

You didn't really give any examples on recruiting?

Being "out of shape" has really nothing to do with recruiting and more to do with strength and conditioning. Which we looked pretty strong and in shape in the 2-4th quarter.

Again, you see future pros, I see a chit ton full of dropped balls and always at the most instrumental part of the game. Now........ I am talking when we play someone that matters here, Not FCS school or the mighty Wyoming . I saw a great catch by Enunwa in the end zone and I think I saw Bell make a nice grab elsewhere but I see them dropping balls in the numbers all the time. Our schedules are so weak it's really hard to judge just how average we are.

I watch Becks performance, wether it's forced on him or not like it was Watson, but if you like our offense, more power to you but for the most part I see really questionable play calling and awful quarterback play. I did like what I saw with TA, jury is still out but if I see a return of Martinez ever, I rest my case.

The Jury is still out on Pap? Maybe the OJ Simpson jury but.......

Sorry I don't see Cotton as ever being good, another token hire from the Solich experiment. His penalty ridden lines were such a glaring problem with the Huskers they moved him to whatever it is he supposed to be doing but I think it's coaching tight ends? Just look for penalties and out of position players and you can bet Barney in involved. Just like his family tree, the free ride has gone on long enough and the sooner he's gone, the sooner we fill a spot with a real coach.

You didn't address our Defensive line coach ( ex Iowa buddies), another example of below average results bordering on putrid. Frankly top to bottom including Ron Brown really do nothing to improve my outlook on the Huskers

If you're happy with recruiting and SC training, more power to you, I watch teams like Bama ( and even Ole Miss defense), Oregon and other top 10 teams and the talent / speed and coaching is so glaring. This staff is great if you like bouncing in and out of the top 25 and getting blown out in year 6.

I didn't give any examples on recruiting because the product on the field does all the talking, getting throttled in the CCG really gets all the kids excited to come play for this staff

  19. Error in judgment no question. The kids selling their own property, a tattoo parlor giving them tattoos. Yea pretty serious stuff. Also the tattoo parlor was owned by a pretty shady character that Tressel had some fear of. He lied about it. I seem to remember a certain coach that hid a gun for a few days, I also remember a young hyspman winner robbing a gas station, and very heavily covered up by a certain university. We have had our fair share of questionable events. Did he cheat to win, did he cheat to make money for himself, did he do anything but protect his kids.

Supposedly one of the best people in college football until this happened. Devout, religious man, did things right and made the kids do things right.

Do you really believe that every kid on the Nebraska football team is paying for all their tattoos. Where do they get that type of money? They are all broke and starving correct, no money for a hamburger, go to movie, but can pay a couple thousand dollars for sleeve of tats.

I went on that tangent, and it is one of my pet peeves about NCAA. These kids do deserve some type of financial help while in school. they pay a lot of the bills around here.

The right person poking around can and will find something if that is their mission. I think Tressel fell victim to it. His main reason for being fired/resigned was the lie. Not the infractions or what was supposedly done.

Exactly, Shawn E should have Tressel on speed dial. What a great place to redeem both a coach and a program.

  20. Couldn't quote your post from my phone. Use bullet points to highlight the specifics that prove your point about our "clown staff" and our "inability to recruit" etc. I want you to give me specifics. Then I'll be more than happy to pick your post apart top to bottom.

Who else other than a clown staff can own 11 of the top 20 worst defensive showings in Husker History?

  21. If I'm understanding you correctly you're calling me a liar and a troll. that's fine, I don't have my head shoved up my ass and think Pelini is a real coach with his clown posse staff and blowout losses every year he's coached here including 2003. He will be gone just because he can't resist being terrible at recruiting/ determining talent/hiring a real staff/ stopping the run/ acting a fool on the sideline/ game planning/ preparing our players for un ranked teams all at the same time he tell's you the fan to go "F" yourself. He's a top class buffoon

We get it - you don't like Pelini.

He's our head coach, though, and this thread is about who we'd want in a hypothetical world. If you have nothing to contribute in that realm, then please take the Pelini hate elsewhere. I have no problem with your opinion but it serves no purpose than to derail this thread. Thank you.

I gave my opinion pages ago, I said Tressel and several saw this a rational, which at this point if we want to be relevant again,it's our only real option, that is if he would come here, he may take the USC gig, who knows. You feel my opinion means nothing so I guess we're even

Is this you playing the victim? Or you not reading carefully?

I can play any way you want me to play, I read very carefully and must admit It takes a real "tradition coalition" to impress me. You might be better off to go get some rest and let some big guns come here and fight for Pelinis honor

  22. I've been serving a suspension from this board but it doesn't mean I haven't been reading it. I saw a whole clan of posters join after UCLA to basically do nothing but take cheap shots at the program and that is literally all I have seen you do here since I've encountered you.

I could pick apart your post, however I wanna give you just enough rope to hang yourself with before I do it. I'd enjoy bullet points and specifics of what you are speaking of.

    I've got all night.

Well take all night and go back as far as you want, I'll be around here in a couple hours to see how badly you pick me apart. You may want to go study up a little on Husker history first, By the way, Ive been here for years as well so have at it
