  1. i am on board with Frost although not 100% he feels the same way about coming here.  If we dont get him and start over then I absolutely love the idea of Kyle WIttingham.  I was telling anyone that would listen we need to think seriously about hiring him but then we went and found Mr Rogers.  Utah plays defense like we all want to see here.  They are physical! Wittingham has fire and seems like a no non sense guy.  I mean so did Pelini but this is a bit more tasteful I believe.  The perfect balance if you will.  However, not sure Wittingham would leave Utah. That said, I think he gets as much out of them as possible and not sure he will ever get them into a consistent mix of contending for pac 12 titles.   May have maxed out there.  But i guess who could say he would do better here. IDK i just really like watching Utah play.  ALmost beat USC last night (cant believe they went for 2).  So USC out recruits the shiznit out of Utah but at least they competed with them, right?  THats what we're looking for right?

  2. I think we get quite a few 20 to 35 yard gains and I call those 'big' plays. We don't need to get 80 yard plays although I think we have the receivers who can actually go that distance. Reilly has excellent deep threat speed. DPE does too. Westercamp can score from 50 or so and some of the others as well. I believe Wilbon has at least the same speed as Ameer and Newby is certainly comparable to Ameer and good for 30 to 40 yards out. Our receivers will start breaking some of the short pass catches and turn them into bigger plays as well. Give them time. We are only two games in but the offense is showing signs of being able to make a TD drive starting at our own 12, etc. Those long drives are tough. We have not had good field position for a large portion of these first two games, not the fault of the offense. But, we will get some big plays I think. Be patient.

I agree, especially when it comes to Wilbon, cuz that kid looks to have some skills (so does Newby). The only thing I don't necessarily agree with is that Reilly will be a threat with the long ball over DPE and Morgan. That said, we know B. Reilly gets plenty of yards his own way

I don't know if our guys are being coached differently this year but it doesn't seem like our corners are looking back for the ball. There have been a number of catches that could have been broken up if the CB was playing the ball.

That's been a complaint for years.

Well than lets hope Riley and Stewart can get it fixed because wow that's gonna be brutal throughout the year if they don't

    NO! NO! NO! NO!

I was telling the announcer, through my television screen, to just shut the hell up.

Anybody watching Nebraska the last few years knows that we have lived off the threat of the home run. We've done nothing the last three years but feed the rock to Ameer, and then "scare" everybody with the deep ball, just to back them off so we could feed it to Ameer some more.

To hell with living like that.

If there's on thing, as a Husker fan, I've wanted to see the last few years, more than anything in the world, it was Nebraska stringing together long drives. Multiple plays, time chewing, successful marches down the field. Not a chance in hell I'll have some dumbass announcer tell me that stringing together long drives is a bad thing.

I realize this is So. Alabama, but if we can string these kind of drives together, take some pressure off our defense, then we are going to find the promised land.

Seriously, to hell with what that announcer was saying. It was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. You don't EVER complain about an offense that strings together drives. When we want to hit the home run, we will. Alonzo Moore, Jordan Westerkamp, Brandon Reilly, and Tommy Armstrong will make sure of that.

You hit the nail on the head. With Beck, we were big or bust. No in between. Personally, I prefer a grinding drive that eats clock and keeps their O off the field.

Agree with the other posters. I think it was by design as we could go yard if needed, but the approach was working.

I would also like to think that Riley and his experience maybe actually use games like this to experiment a little to see what works and doesn't in real games. Something I would never credit the previous staff with.

Agreed it was nice to see, but its a bit easier to string drives together on South Alabama. At some point Tommy is gonna have to find a deep ball receiver to hook up with now that Kenny is gone. That said, DPE is obviously that dude and he's on the bench...so we will just have to wait.

One other disappointing thing I forgot to mention is the fact Bo attempted to oust Eichorst by going to the BoR. Again, it's another example of how messed up the Regents had become under Pelini.

Per Sam McKewon, this is not accurate. The Deadspin transcript said one thing, the OWH transcript said another. Given that the OWH actually had a tape, listened to it, and are making this point, I would go with them.

It is very interesting, though, the idea that Bo wishes Shawn had been more involved in his life. Maybe told him what to do a little more. Yeah, I can see how that would have gone over so well with Bo.

What staggers me is that Bo could have so easily taken the high road. Not just because it's the class thing to do. Want to make the university look bad? Be a saint. Exit the right way. Let your players be the guys about whom people will say, "The next coach just won with Bo's recruits" by giving them the best possible messages. Be above any possible reproach. But goodness. He can't help himself.

Maybe Bo doesn't want the recruits to be successful under Riley. Maybe he wants them to fail in a sense so as to not shed any further light on how incapable he is/was to win at least a conference championship with his own recruits. Im not saying I necessarily believe this but rather see it as a possibility.

  6. I would be shocked if Michigan went to BWW bowl over us as SB nation article suggests. If the bowl committee wants to see a seriously great turnout they would stick us in the BWW against Texas. Im gonna go out on a limb and say that would be considered a much watch for a whole lot of people. If anything we should go to the gator bowl over the texas bowl and a possible rematch against Georgia. Do the bowls go off conference record or overall record? I guess that would make a difference because we would lose head to head with Minnesota but then again its not like these bowls are absolutely bound to an exact spot the teams finished. Nebraska will travel better than Minny.

  7. I think both Armstrong and Stanton will be fine QBs. It's a good problem to have.

Ideally, I'd like to see us go to a more power-run oriented offense to take the pressure off these guys. Our bread and butter should be power runs with Abdullah/Cross/Newby/Taylor. Mix in the jet sweep that seems to give everyone so much trouble (most especially us). Passing wise play-action passes should be our bread and butter, with screens (middle, bubble, slip) and crossing routes prominently in the mix.

If Beck were smart, he would really dumb down the offense and run say 12 base plays to perfection.

    This. OMG this!!!

  8. Bottom line is Taylor and our receiving crew are all very marginal at best and wildly inconsistent. Our receivers are not nfl talent! Bell shows flashes of being an excellent playmaker but is not consistent whatsoever. Those dropped passes could have been caught, yes, but the throw from the quarterback is no where near good enough to catch them on as regular of basis as we need to be a top tier team.
