    the video isn't very encouraging...

but again, maybe i'm just overthinking things.

What doesn't seem encouraging? The look that Houston seems to practice on a field that is also used for rec soccer? Or no funny one liners about finding nemo?

lol. if he coaches soccer, he would automatically become the best coach on staff in my book.

Yeah who wants to watch a guy coach fundamentals and attention to detail. Better to focus on big picture stuff

i wasn't necessarily looking at him only. i also looked at the response of his guys and their body language.

  2. you don't keep working in any field for that amount of time if you don't know what your doing Winner.Warren could recruit and has good character but our dbs missed a lot of ints last year to not looking for the ball.

  3. This reminds me of the time one of the professors in lincoln told me to drop out of engineering because "maybe engineering just isn't for you..." because i went to ask him a question during his office hours. My GPA at the time as a junior was 3.5. i'm not white.

if you don't understand how those two incidents are related, and/or don't think that making statements like that is highly inappropriate and counterproductive for a prospective mentor/instructor/coach, then you may need to just learn about a few new things on leadership and development.

  4. Here's what Eichorst should have done to support Pelini.

    1) Gotten mad and gone down to the sidelines in the 3rd quarter of the Wisconsin game.

    2) Chewed out Pelini for 5 minutes on national TV while the offense struggled to get a first down.

    3) Looked on helplessly as Gordon and his backup ran for yardage and TDs.

    4) Gone to the press conference and when asked what happened said "You saw it, what do you think? The coaches didn't execute."

    5) Go to the BIG offices and call them chicken somethings.

    6) Called a private meeting with the coaches and let them know it's all Perlman's fault and he has their backs.

    7) Get himself fired, keep the high salary, and watch everyone below him down to the water boy loose their jobs.

    8) Call a meeting and curse out everyone who caused this mess.

Sounds like how a "staight shooting" highly paid professional would go about showing support for those below them.

    :clap

    YES! :bonez

  5.

I'm not sure what is more fascinating...

    1) the fact that he comes across as a petulant teenager bitching about how his parents grounded him for no reason

    2) his apparent complete inability to temper the emotions of a group of young men who needed a calming voice and some kind of message to help them move ahead

    3) or Bo's complete ineptitude in even HAVING a coherent message after two days to think about it. He may have his players' 'back', but is it any wonder why the players lack direction on the field? That was a truly misguided rambling.

    Best soundbite of the day:

    'This stays here, fellas'

so much of it is so bizarre. bo's pity for himself and not getting enough support. wondering what he was doing here. just coach football, man. no one is out to get you. and what did he want from the AD? seriously. what is he talking about? did he really want the AD hanging around practices and the locker? what would he have said then?

then when he talked about core values. again, what is he talking about? and the only value of bo's seems to be blind loyalty to incompetence. his incessant need for support, which what that exactly means is vague. and what did he do to foster a relationship with the AD. and why could he not just coach? just worry about the upcoming games. he has only himself for getting so wrapped up in any other drama, mostly self-created.

    just bizarre.

Yep. Add to it him telling the players that its ok for them to leave or stay if they choose. wow.

What was most striking to me was the fact that the players were snickering and laughing as he called his boss names.

i really want to be shocked that anyone would still try to defend bo after this, but meh. looks like if someone had made up their mind to stick with Bo over the state of nebraska and the school, then nothing ever will.

  6. Really can't say what is going to happen. But, sometimes a coach can work well with better talent. And with a good scheme and plan in place that suits his players strengths, a coach can have lots of success. Kind of the same thing where less talented players can make a coach look awful. Or a particular difficult and nutty scheme. Lots of things to take into consideration. I am at least more interested in seeing what he can do with the talent we have here at Nebraska. There are some really good players on this squad. Real good. The previous co-DC's (ahem) failed to produce good results with this talent by installing a concept that was heavier on the brain instead of brawn, speed and quickness. Too much thinking and read responsibilities for each player that if one or two guys misread something, it all fell apart. They didn't execute or weren't in the right spot. I think guys were more nervous about screwing up and getting earful on the sidelines in front of everyone. Instead, things should have been less complicated so the players could do their job and perform at a high level from within their natural athletic ability.

    /Hope

    /Thoughts & Rant

That played into it, but my opinion on that is that players were really more concerned about winning the starting spot in practice than they were about the actual game. i don't know if that makes sense to people, but from all the comments from players and coaches, and with body language, it really seemed like the most emphasis was placed on winning a gameday playing spot by practicing harder than other guys and sounding smartest in meeting rooms. so then players only put their best out during practice, and just go through the motions on gameday, because, hey, the goal was winning a starting spot and looking good on tv, as opposed to beating the team on the other sideline.

except if bo really liked you and wasn't going to start/play anyone else no matter what.

  7.

Bo started a RS freshman at QB over a Senior because he felt like he gave him the best chance to win. I fully believe that if Stanton was better than Armstrong this year, he would have started.

lol you clearly still don't know how bo did things while he was here...

Please. Clear things up.for me. Tell me how a coach goes 9/10-4 6 consecutive years by not starting and playing the best players at the position?

riiiiight. because those two are mutually exclusive...

    smh.

like i said in my last post, some of these arguments are needlessly revisionist. if you really think that with the talent that has been on that lincoln campus, we could not have dropped less than 4 games a year, and in the ways we did, then there's no need to discuss more.

If you're going to call him out at least provide some form of proof.

i'm not calling stpaul out. i'm calling bo out. problem is whatever argument i have is going to be subjective at best because i'm not/wasn't a coach on the inside. but some of those examples have been pointed out already. but there are many more examples. any coach that would look at nebraska's players and not have kalu playing almost every snap is doing something wrong.

    but thats a decaying horse.

  9. The players deserve a lot of credit for the win yesterday. I was hosting a post thanksgiving party and didnt have time to post this, but it seemed from the little i watched, that the comeback was pretty dependent on crazy catches that wouldn't be made: TA to bell - in double coverage. TA to Allen - basically just ran somewhere and waited for him to get open. same for the last touchdown.

Basically, it feels like they really just reverted to backyard football and played their hearts out. on the other side of the ball, Iowa really did all they could to giftwrap the game for us. from their quarterback play, to their playcalling (i'll take their sillyness, but why would you call 3 passes in a row when you have the lead and about 10 minutes left in the game?) and to the coaching on their side (kicking to DPE). too bad the coaches on our side have shown that they cannot get them to play with that determination the whole season.

I'm glad they played well yesterday.

  10.

There was a meeting last year between Bo and SE...it was basically make it to Indy next season or you out Youngstown sucka

Yes you did. You have no clue about details of a meeting last year between these two.

Not sure why people do this... if you have some info, post it. if you don't, then leave folks who wish to share what info they have alone. eventually, their track record will speak for itself, and we will know whether to listen to them at all after that. but why just say "you're wrong!!" without any of your own info to back it up?

  11. Former players came out the woodwork to defend him on what was believed to be the eve of his firing

Meh. I don't know why people think this is unique.

Exactly. I was just wondering why people seemed to think we can't fire bo because no one else but can come in here and develop young athletes into good men.

Why would anyone think that Nebraska is the only place a player can come to develop into good young men? It wasn't that way under TO or Bob or anyone before now.

I'm not sure I get you. are you saying TO or Bob or anyone else did not develop athletes into good men?

Bolievers like to throw the idea that the athletes are turning into good men in everyone's face. and that just isn't some special quality exclusive to Bo Pelini.

  12. I keep hearing about the fact that Bo is a good developer of the kids into young men. My question is this: Is that really true? and is that really different from most other coaches in other places? Is Nebraska, under Bo Pelini, currently the only place where young college athletes get "developed into men"?

just wondering. What do you think?

  13. Is there another Saban or Meyer out there, big cat?

Short answer is yes. they are simply just waiting to be hired in the new school so they can win within four years.

basically, in four years, we would have seen a new great coach that will do more with less than the coaches we currently have.

How do i know? I'm glad you asked. i know because it happens Every. Single. Year.
