  1. Been awhile since I have been on the board. I am working at Camp Taji, Iraq as a contractor. One of the distinct pleasures that I have over here is supporting a National Guard unit from Lincoln; the 867th Quartermasters. Thanks to Slingbox, I will be getting to watch the game against KSU tonight with the Husker Nation in Iraq.

These guys bust their butts every day, and I am honored to get an invite to watch the game with them. Imagine my surprise coming to my work location in Iraq and seeing the Big Red N flying high above the units main office. I really want to try and do something special for these guys and gals while I am here, and if anyone can think of anything that might work, please let me know how you can help.

    Go Big Red :restore

  2. Athlete's would have no reason to go to class.

There would be resentment between players on the team....remember they are still young men.

Which sport gets to hand out money? Just football and basketball...or all sports.

My opinion, it is a horrible idea. If players truly love the sport, then they can play for free for 4 years...then go make the big bucks. It would only serve to drive up ticket prices and merchandise prices.

  3. I love the title game, but I would also love to play more teams in the south each year. There are so many ways that you could build a schedule in the Big 12 with the North and South, or just scrap that and have no divisions.

Would I scrap the Title game if it meant we would get a playoff....yes, I think that is where we should be trying to get to.

  4. Allbuffs.com should have some "great" things to say about this....since anyone serving under Barnett was obviously a complete idiot :sarcasm ...I hate that board.

As far as FormerFan goes, he is generally not negative. His comments are just underhanded. He reminds me of Ray's mother on Everybody Loves Raymond.

Take all his comments with a grain of salt, and move along. I would however like to think that he is a fan, albeit a cynical (sp?) one.

  5. I was there as well, and had an amazing time. What a great way to end the season.

I sat in front of some very nice Michigan fans. We talked about Lloyd Carr, and the injuries they had this year. We shook hands after the game.

There were some Michigan fans who were eating KFC (Kentucky Fried Crow) after the game. One was walking up and down the stairs after Michigans first score saying, "That may be the last time y'all score." I turned and saw him at the end of the game; he wasn't saying a word.

Most of the Michigan fans were very classy. As a whole, Michigan fans need to support their team better...win or lose.

Still, this was my first bowl game (not my last), and it was awesome.

  6. I think that Mizzou has the toughest game of the remaining Big 12 games outside of Texas.

    Go Mizzou

    Go Cyclones

    Go Red Raiders

    ......Go Longhorns

I love the Big 12; constantly underrated....constantly proving the media wrong.

    PAC10 - Media darling - mostly overrated

Big 10 - even if the whole conference went 6-6, that would just mean that there is "parity" - highly overrated

  7. First, let me say that being at the game was the most fun I have had as a Husker fan. The Michigan fans that were there, were respectful; as were we.

My defensive player of the game was Bowman. Not only did he keep focused at the end of the game, but he made some excellent plays.

On offense, I have to give it up to Ross...there were series that we went 3 and out, because we threw the ball. He should have had over 200 yards.

Now about the sportsmanship. On my way home from San Antonio, I was listening to ESPN Radio (Dan Patrick show). Dana Jacobson from Cold Pizza was hosting, and she is a Michigan fan. She was whining about why wasn't a flag thrown...and on and on. Then some one else cam on with her, and they started talking about sportsmanship. Basically what they said was that Callahan should have went to the Officials at the end and said "We had guys on the field....penalize us."

I get what they are trying to say, but the Carr should have to do the same thing...cause they had personnel on the field as well. Callahan is not a referee, it isn't his job to call penalties. I just really hate that ESPN has such problem with anything good ever happening for Nebraska. The only person I like that works for ESPN is Kirk Herbstreit.

  8. I respect the post regarding the "generalities." I haven't been around enough Colorado fans to know what they're like, so I have no personal opinion about that.

With regards to the "if you're scared, say you're scared" comment- I have this to say. I'm not scared of Michigan facing Nebraska. See you on December 28th.

And you can bet the only thing that will have me shaking in my shoes is the eery resemblence that Coach C has to Bo Bridges.

    GO BLUE!!!

This should be a great game with what I think are the best fans in the nation.

I am including the Michigan fans in that too. Let's have fun and support our teams with respect. :)

  9. I may have mentioned this before, but I GOT MY TICKETS!!!!!

Can't wait to show those Michigan fans what they were missing in 1997....a butt whooping by the Big Red.

Still looking to meet up on gameday with Huskerboard members.

  10. There is a cirrection to the issue about UCLA beating USC tommarow. SHOULD UCLA beat USC, USC would still be headed to a BCS bowl game and thus Oregon would not even be a considered for a BCS at large bid.

I asked a USC fan tonight why USC would still get the BCS nod over UCLA, even though the 3 teams (USC, Oregon, UCLA) would all be 10-1. Since Oregon and UCLA did not play, they would go down the pecking order and since UCLA lost to Arizona and USC didn't, UCLA would not advance to a BCS game. USC would.

BCS rules prohibt 2 teams from being in BCS bowls UNLESS 1 of those teams was automatically in the BCS National title game, then another conference team would be allowed to be selected as an AT LARGE selection (as is the case right now with USC going to Rose, and Oregon being considered for the Fiesta).

Should UCLA beat USC, then USC would be headed to the Fiesta, UCLA would be an automatic shoe in to the Holiday and Oregon goes bye bye to a lower tier bowl.

Right now, if NU fans want to play UCLA, you have to root for USC to lose. The question is, do you want USC to lose and watch a Penn St/Texas National title game or do you want USC to win and see a pretty decent National Title game?

Even if USC loses, they may end up being #2 in the BCS.....the press loves them, and so do the computers.

They could lose a close one and still be in the national championship game......does this sound familiar to anyone. Except for us it wasn't even close.

  11. I agree Nameless.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if NU goes to the Holiday Bowl.... in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they still somehow match up with Oregon in the Holiday Bowl.... OU would prefer the Alamo, and I was listening to a talk show yesterday with the iowa play by play guy, and he said the Alamo would really like to have OU and Iowa.

    Ferentz vs Stoops

Deals do get worked out, so NU may head to San Diego..

I just booked my room so I would have it.....doesn't cost a dime to cancel :)

Most are still predicting Oregon vs. Oklahoma in the Holiday. The Holiday has the 3rd pick out of the Big 12, and with Texas in the Rose and Tech in the Cotton....I don't see why the Holiday wouldn't pick OU to play Oregon.

If UCLA upsets then it is a different picture. Besides, the Alamo has expressed interest in OU, NU in the big 12 and Iowa and Mich. in the Big 10.

Alamo has the 4th pick out of the Big 12 and we travel very well to San Antonio...probably better the OU even.....given we have been there many times......remeber scoring 66 points on the HIGH powered Northwestern offense.... :horns2

  12. I will probably go anyway being that I live about 15 miles from the OU campus. I am not a huge Sooner fan but I still would love to watch a bowl game.

There is so much speculation over who is going to which bowl. Oh, and I don't think that UCLA will upset USC.

  13. :thumbs

I just reserved my hotel suite for the 27-28. I am hoping that they get to go to San Antonio.

I haven't bought my tickets yet, but Monday am, I plan on being on the phone, ordering mine... Did you just go through the "Alamo bowl"?

I would appreciate the info... ;)

If we go, it would be great to have a Huskerboard get together on the riverwalk maybe the night before the game.... I would be interested in doing something like that.

I went to the Alamo Bowl website and bought my tikets.

Most of them were sold out already, and the ones available were in the corners.

I am hoping that Husker fans have bought up all the tickets in anticipation.

I am not going down until the day of the game, so night before is out.

Ohhh and why....I am crazy.....crazy about the Huskers. :thumbs

  14. So I bought my tickets to the Alamo Bowl today. I was looking at all of the projections, and it seems pretty likely that is where we are headed.

They were reasonably priced at $55 for lower level, and $12 for a parking pass.

If OU goes, I may still end up going to the game.

Any one else going....I would love to meet some of my fellow Huskerboard members.

I hope they pick us, no way can I go to the Holiday bowl.

    :restore2
