You need to keep Riley on for the next couple weeks because it fits the narrative.  If Riley is still the HC he's the guy at the front of the pack getting the slings and arrows and taking the brunt of the criticism.  The second you fire Riley the narrative shifts to Moos and things turn into overdrive (even moreso than they are now) where Nebraska fans start tracking flights and go 100% volcano level crazy.  Keeping Riley on buys Moos cover to do his thing.  Nebraska is paying Riley a lot of money to essentially be a punching bag right now.  Let him take the hits.

Also protects candidates from having to answer questions about the open HC job at Nebraska.

That’s hilarious.  Florida fired McElwain because his offenses sucked.  They timed the firing of him after his comment about death threats so they could negotiate down his $12M buyout.

Correct, so if Riley gives us a potential reason to fire him for cause, which allows us to negotiate the buy out, then by all means, take advantage of situation to benefit the University.  Barring that opening by Riley, there is no good reason to fire Riley now as opposed to the end of the season.

  3. Welcome GBR.  I, too, am a conservative who reads quite a bit on Huskerboard, but doesn't post much.  I've found that, in general, if  you post respectfully, people will do likewise and treat your posts with respect.  I have also found that if you come to the board more looking for a conversation, rather than an argument, you'll have a much better chance of educating people on your ideas, and will also learn from other peoples posts.  Just what I've noticed since joining Huskerboard; not in any way implying that you haven't done this with your first posts.

pretty cringy if she actually said that to him. just let the guy coach and enjoy his family. when the time is right we'll know if he is coming here or not.

and really cringy if he realized that the photo he politely took with them ended up on Huskerboard as evidence of him coming to Nebraska

  5. I would think the upside to not firing Riley before the end of the season is it lets Moos do the job search a little more discretely and lessens the distractions for potential future coaches. Now, if any potential coach gets asked about the Nebraska job, all he has to say is "Nebraska already has a coach."  That changes the instant we fire Riley.  I would think potential future coaches would appreciate that.

lol, Jim Leonhard is from Tony WI, he walked on to UW and had a great career. You're not going to be able to poach him.

Heard the announcers during the Wis-Iowa game mention that Wisc HC, OC, DC all played for Wisconsin, mentioned something about the importance of culture......maybe we should try something like that.

I certainty hope that no one would advocate for never singing it, but I am sure there are those that would. I understand your point that it may be over done and has lost it meaning to many. Your suggestion of national holidays and other special events is good, but can be left up to event organizers to choose if they want it or not.  I fear it it would die over time.  The game time anthem is a tradition that is embedded into the fabric of our society, and even though some don't care, look at their phones etc etc, its still means something to many.  If we start giving up our traditions in the county, what is next?

I just read that according to the Sacramento Bee, the California chapter of the NAACP has proposed doing away with the Star Spangled Banner as our national anthem.  They believe the third verse, which is never sung, is racist.

I hope they cane him...do they do that there?

I know your question was probably rhetorical, but according to wikipedia, they do not.  There are 32 countries, mostly Muslim, that use caning of some sort as punishment.

I found it odd that one providence in Indonesia just recently began using caning as punishment.  I figured that by the 21st century, countries would be moving away from such punishment, not towards it.

Large sections of the American population have at least read Zinn`s(RIP)"Peoples History of the Unites States", even many non-Southern high schoolers.

Mao is my biggest hero, though. Guevara a close 2nd.

Maybe "too groovy" for HB, I presume.

Yeah, It' s really groovy to idolize dictators who torture and murder their own people.

  10. Just my opinion, but Trump is the  gift that will keep on giving to the Democrats.  Not only will he alienate a lot of the country, the working class will end up seeing him as the fraud he is and will lump all Republicans with him, which is the Republicans fault for lining up behind him ; and conservatism will be confused with Trumpism.

This saddens me greatly as a conservative/former republican.

    What are you disagreeing with?

First off, everyone (everyone sane, that is) really thanks you and respects you.  At the game last weekend we shook the hands of the people in active service or those (like my dad) who have already served.  It was fun to reach around and shake their hands, pat their backs, and show them that we thank and respect them for what they did.  It was also really, really neat to see the service men & women, both retired and active duty, introduced on the field.  Bomber pilots from WWII & Korea, veterans of Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq, and currently active people. We gave them one hell of an ovation, because we love and respect them.

But some people, like me, are concerned that bad people in our government (nod if you agree we have bad people in our government) have and will misuse our brave folks in uniform for their own ends.  That is what this thread, and our concern is about.

Do not make the mistake of thinking people are anti-military.  I'm not, and I don't think anyone responding so far is.

To answer your question - absolutely, if I saw someone harming an innocent person, I would step in.  Almost everyone here would.  You, with your training, would do a far better job than those of us who are untrained. But we'd still try.

Might want to check out Big Red Commies comment

  12. If I'm not mistaken,  UK makes way more money from the tourism created by the Monarchy than the Monarchy costs the taxpayer, if fact, pretty sure that's why they still exist.  Not defending the sheltering of assets to avoid taxes, just pointing out why the UK still promotes and supports them.

I agree. Do you want Frost or not though?

Absolutely! And it's not my money, so I hope we do whatever is needed to get him.

If it was my money, or I was the one in charge of being the steward of the money, I'd be a little uncomfortable at 10 years/$50 million when Harbaugh's contract at Michigan was, I believe, 7 years/$40 million; and he was much more established than Frost is.

But, I also understand that at Frost's age, I'm sure he would continue to coach and some of the buy out would be mitigated by his salary at his next job.

A 10 year contract is basically the same as saying he would be "guaranteed" five years.  Coaches basically always have a five-year contract to start a season.  After five years, having a five year contract would be 10.

Good point, and at his age, I suppose a lot of the buy out would be mitigated by his salary at his next job (assuming he isn't going to Youngstown State for $200 K at year).

Why would things go poorly? He hates losing and hates poor execution.

Everyone on this board hates losing and hates poor execution; pretty sure things would go poorly if any of us were the coach.

Just saying, I want Frost as much as the next person, but selecting a coach is risky, there are no guarantees.
